Tony Martin being 3rd man in the train ending 16th says it all... so does De Kort ending 9th.

Congratulations to France Télévisions for not being Lance obsessed today like Yesterday and RAI sport during the whole giro.
A minor victory for the french there

I know he must have been caught in the crash, but even before the crash, i had not seen Freire at all. He was nowhere near the head of the bunch. Did i miss him? |

Nobody can hide in a bunch like McEwen and Freire, they can make themself invisible.
I also loved to see how Armstrong was sitting all alone in the pack while all the others were sitting at contador.

One of the Euskatel riders fell in the turn and the riders who where left of him couldnt take the turn anymore, and alot of the other 'sprinters' were slowed down.

Haussler and Farrar are pretty 'big' sprinters tough, but this top 20 looks like something that would happen if i would play with Columbia on normal

The likes of Boonen, Bennati and others were probably too far back at that turn, whether Fernandez had crashed or not.
Great control from Columbia and a great win by Cavendish.
Well done to Farrar for being well positioned and taking 2nd, even if he was no match to Cav. Feillu did well also while Hushovd was pretty anonymous in 4th. Rest of the top 10 making the most of an opportunity, except Ciolek who did not.
Very funny to see Boonen going off down the other road

Hushovd was way back after the crash and he actually covered more ground than Cavendish at the end... But he really payed for not being at the front like Cavendish and Columbia-HTC are. They can control everything and keep Cav from getting into any accidents.
No one is going to beat Cavendish if they continue to let him get the space he wants in the peleton. And like Cancellara said after the stage: You really have to want to win the stage to get the stage win, just like Columbia, not like the other teams who are hoping for Cav and the rest to make a mistake (which is not likely to happen with them controlling at the front) |

I didnt see Hushovd being caught in the crash at all, need to look at the replay again to see. That white jersey just keeps him hidden - but i thought he was at the other side of the road to the crash, just in a bad position. |

He was in a bad position before the right hand turn and the riders in front of him had to hit the brakes a little, opening the gap between the Columbia train + a few riders and the rest...

Let's blame the ASO too, what were they thinking having the car turnoff going straight ahead and the riders having a sharp right.

I think Farrar has done enough to be considered "big". Winning a sprint in Tirreno-Adriatico, and a couple of seconds at the Giro against top competition show he's in the same ballpark as the big boys. |

not really since if you ask me he was in the perfect position to beat Cavendish today because he wasn't affected by the crash but in the end he finished with a few metres behind Cavendish, caught by Feillu.

The criterium I used for choosing the top sprinters there was winning a stage in a grand tour. (in a mass sprint of course) |
