Giro d'Italia
Stage 4
Today the race really starts, the first mountain stage, and I'm feeling pretty good. Hopefully I can keep up with the favourites and break into the top 10. Because when I woke up this morning I felt like this was my day, but maybe I was wrong?
None of the riders in the break were a threat for the stage.
The first one to attack was Yaroslav Popovych, with 23 km left of the stage.
Menchov countered together with me and Simoni, was this a bad decision, an attack so early ? But my legs were feeling good, so I gave it a shot.
Menchov and Simoni didn't have the legs to join Popovych, but I rode with a good pace and caught him easy. Unfortunately we didn't have a big gap over the pack.
A few kilometres later, Cunego, Kirchen and Valjavec attacks!
They caught me and Popovych and when we started the last climb, I tried to attack, and I got a pretty big gap, and that felt amazing! I had just attacked away from the best riders in the world!
The gap didn't got bigger, but it didn't got smaller either. The chasing group were attacking eachother all the time, they were desperate to catch me. I earned seconds on this, because every time an attack had been reeled in, they slowed down.
Situation with 5 km left:
E1: Me, all alone.
E2: Cunego a little bit ahead of the other favourites
A few metres behind the favourites, the pack was riding.
The chasers continued to play the cat and mouse game, and the gap was widening. When the sprint started the gap was really big.
50 metres, 25 metres, 10 metres left. I was going to win, maybe my best result ever, a stage win in one of the mountain stages of Giro d'Italia. I could barely ride over the line, my legs were screaming of pain, and I was so tired. I took of my hands from the handlebars and stretched my arms in the sky, it was totally amazing, I can't describe it with words.
It was a nervous waiting before the other riders crossed the line, will I wear la Maglia Rosa tomorrow? Kirchen outsprinted Cunego and the others. But he crossed the line to late, I WAS GOING TO WEAR LA MAGLIA ROSA ! Awesome!
It was to much for me now, I felt the tears slide down my cheek, I couldn't believe that I had won a stage in Giro d'Italia, and I was going to wear the beautiful Pink jersey. That's a thing you have dreamed of since you were a kid, and now I'm standing here, at the podium, while I'm wearing exactly that jersey. AMAZING!

with 79 mountain and 83 TT you really have a good chance to finish with the pink jersey in Rome.

Giro d'Italia
Stage 5
Time for another mountain stage, and I'm wearing la Maglia Rosa, it's totally unbelieveable! I've always dreamed about to wear this shirt, so it's a dream coming true. So I guess it's not a surprise when I say that I was very nervous on the start line before todays stage. My legs were shaking, but I was very glad to have the jersey and I wanted to show it off today.
Todays breakaway.
They got caught pretty early and Denis Menchov was the first favourite to attack in the last climb!
I'm pretty unexperienced in this kind of situations, I didn't know wether to attack or not, I wanted to show the jersey for the world! But I waited, no attack this time, and that was a good decision, because Menchov got caught pretty fast.
After a while, it was time for Kim Kirchen!
I knew that I couldn't let him go, so I attacked! I gave it all I had, everything!
Vincenzo Nibali (leader of the U25 Jersey) countered when I attacked. He, I and Kirchen created the front group, just a few seconds ahead of the peleton.
Yaroslav Popovych and Damiano Cunego tried to cath us.
But unfortunately, we got caught by the pack after some kms. I was tired and I understood that I couldn't do another attack, let's just hope that nobody else attacks now. But of course some other riders tried their luck today, like Tadej Valjavec together with Joaquim Rodriguez.
They wasn't a big threat for the jersey today, but I didn't want to lose to much time on them. But luckily they didn't get a big gap, but they had some advantage when the sprint started.
It was going to be between Tadej and Joaquim, who is the winner many asked? But on the photofinish it was pretty easy to decide who the winner was. Joaquim Rodriguez!
I did a good sprint and finished 5th, only loosing time to Valjavec, Rodriguez and Kirchen. Even though it was bad to lose time, I didn't lose to much, and I'm going to wear la Maglia Rosa tomorrow too.
