A bunch of guys from my school were selected into the 2011 Canada games to play for Team Manitoba in hockey. Its pretty cool. A bunch of them were even drafted into the WHL. Obviously I'm not good enough to play at that level but its cool because I play at the local rinks with them, and now I'm watching them on TV.

I got a couple of friends drafted in the OHL, one actually plays. But have you heard of that nova scotian prospect. He looks amazing and netted a hattrick at the tourny
I borrow this NHL forum for a hockey related question outside the NHL.
Just want to have some neutral opinions on these tackles?
What do you think they should get matchpenalty, 2 mins or none at all?
1st video: He should get 5 minutes. Because he is Charging the guy and its somewhat of a questionable hit, but he shouldn't be disqualified as he never made contact with the head.
2nd video: he shouldn't get a penalty. Perfectly clean hit, unless his shoulder makes contact with the other players head. Its kinda hard to tell from that angle.
3rd Video: Disqualify him. Late hit, and he makes contact with his head or atleast makes his head whip backwards which is a penalty in any league other than the NHL. (I believe)

I agree with valverde on these hits
1. 5min
2. I think that was clean the bad thing on this is that the player was about to pass/dump the puck that was bad as the head of the carrier wasn't in a good position
3. That would be a match penalty
Team Bianchi - 2012 Man-Game ProContinental Tour Champions
1. He got a match penalty.
2. He didn´t got anything at all but all "experts" thought Hedman was cowardly and disrespectful.
3. He only got a 2 min penalty.
And the worst of them all, it looks a little like a reflex, but a real ugly one.
Probably it´s not a coincidence that he has been through so many dubios tackles this season. But as he plays for my favourite team I´m kind of defends him after all...
Okay. Now I need some help. Is this an illegal hit?
Seriously, the government is doing a criminal investigation, Stephen Harper (canada's Prime Minister) has said it was an ugly hit, and that the league needs to do more towards head shots and head injury circumstances. Harper also said that he hopes the league is concerned. Air Canada one of the official airlines of the NHL is about to withdraw sponsorship if nothing is done about head-shots, and yet the league has done nothing. I'm not saying it was a dirty head shot, but he clearly tried to run him into the partition, and I think Chara isn't taking it like a man and owning up to this. Its just unfortunate that his head hit it straight on.
I really don't see how this is a dirty hit - it seems like Chara is riding him into the boards as defensemen typically do to head off a winger, unfortunately this happened in the bench area and he went headfirst into the corner of the glass. Air Canada getting all upset because of this particular incident seems like utter insanity to me. That said, more should be done about head shots. That players like Matt Cooke and Trevor Gillies get away with some of the stuff they do is unbelievable.
Personally I don't think it was a dirty hit, but it was one which should have been punished a little more. Something like a 1, or 2 game suspension and a fine. It may not have been a dirty hit, but to me, you can't do nothing about it.
Its like letting Contador dope get away free even though he had an illegal substance in his body, because he may or may not have ingested it on purpose. Chara may not have meant to destroy the guy but he did and it was questionable. I play hockey myself and as a hockey player I am always aware of whats around me. The stantion was there and most players should know that its there. You dont go around hitting guys into open bench doors just because the guys there and easy to hit.
Seriously the level of respect in the NHL has really gone down. There used to be a time when you wouldn't have to worry about getting hit from behind, or cross-checked in the face, but these days you do. This is because there isn't enough respect at young ages, 12, 13, 14 year olds are going around head-hunting, so something needs to be changed at a lower age if the NHL wants the NHL to be safer.
And if someone like Cooke had been the one hitting him, I think the reaction would have been much worse, and he probably would be suspended for a long time. See even though Chara is seen as somewhat of a clean player the reaction is still absolutely horrible and everyone is jumping up and saying it was a bad hit. Even worse but imagine it wasn't Patches and it was Crosby/Stamkos/St.Louis/Malkin instead. Now think of what the consequences would be?
And I really dont like the way Chara handeled this.
@aaffins-Air Canada is only dropping sponsorship because of all the headhits, not from this one incident.
Sorry if you read all this.

If Air Canada is considering pulling their sponsorship because of things like Gillies' shots on Tangradi and Clutterbuck then I think that's great. Obviously it would suck for the NHL to lose the sponsor, but maybe that's what the league needs to wake up and take care of some of these clowns for good.
It´s probably not his opinion but it gets really ugly, unlucky simply. Do not now how to be punished, sometimes they judge after how bad injury the player gets even if it´s a fair tackle...
Like this "tackle" he get´s a match penalty and suspended one match more. He breaks he´s leg..

Red Wings look to force Game 7 tonight after being behind 3-0 in the series. Lets go Detroit!
Well we are heading back to San Jose for game 7. Tonights game was one of the best I have ever seen. @Val321 Howards been great but tonight showcased Wings are deep and experienced all-round.
Well, the Wings come up 1 goal short of the historic comeback - but it was fun while it lasted. Still upset they couldn't pull out the win on the eve of my birthday, so right now I kinda just want to punch a Shark!
