Japan Cup
This is what the whole season after my injury was focused. 2 months of training, build-up racing and route scouting for the most important race of my season. It would be decided on one day.
I feel I have reached full fitness and, despite it not being mountainous, this course is well-suited to me and I would love to perform on home soil.
I was limited by the race organisers to 4 helpers but I was pleased with my position of team leader.
Early on, while I was being protected in the bunch by Wataru Otsuka, a six-man break cruised away from the relaxed speed of the peloton.
But, with 30k to go, the gap was still 5 minutes, regardless of the work my team-mates had done to catch them.
So, I set off on my own, hopefully launching myself to victory, not thinking about the prospects of launching myself to nothing.
The leaders were playing cat and mouse, not willing to set another up for the victory.
This was playing into my hands as I dug deep to catch them.
This I did on the descent of the penultimate climb, as the break came back together and began to work.
I sat on their wheels until I got a call from the team car. There where 8km to go and I knew I had to rid myself of these riders, as a lot of them were substantially better sprinters than myself. It was now or never to decide my season.
I went for it!
I emptied my legs in pursuit of glory, searching for the defining result of my career so far. I gave it everything.......
and I won.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is fantastic - I'm one of the best cyclists in the Japan.
I'm in the top 100 in the world - I was 98th in the CQ rankings and 24th in the continental tour - one place behind David Millar.
Look at that!

this should be up and running again once Smoothie has done one of his amzing jerseys for me(or rjc) - no pressure - and once I have managed to get transfers working in dashboard
can you do transfers in hannes converter just by changing a riders team id - or in hannes editor?

You can, but you need to edit the DYN_contract_cyclist tablle as well to give them a contract at your team and the length, etc.

NEVER USE EDITOR. It screws up save games. You can easily do it with Converter. Just change the rider's team id column.

I've been approached by a few big teams and I think ProTour is the right way to go - it has kept it's big races this year and I should still be guaranteed a Tour start (or at least my team will).
I've been training quite lightly back home in Japan, catching up with Family and the national team, and I've also been on holiday to the Himalayas, where I conquered Everest and cycled to well over 5,000m. It is a lovely place and has encouraged me to return for altitude training before the Tour, as, regardless of my lack of training, I still feel very strong and in form.
I have ideas for my 2009 goals but I still have to make repeated chiropractor visits, which could hamper both my performances and my planning.
More news when I put pen to paper, but I thought I should keep you faithful guys updated.
Doi
PS Thanks for all your emails, presents and letters which keep my spirits up when times are hard and make this feel worthwhile. Keep them coming!
