Profonde van Drenthe
When we looked at the field we knew we probably shouldn't be sending the team we are to this race... but this is a warmup for Paris-Robaix to make sure our cobbled team is in top form.
We WAY outclassed the competion... so we simply took the race in hand as soon as we hit the cobbled sections.
The Pelaton started stretching out as we set a brisk pace. Few were able to keep up.
And soon it was just us. The rest of the field was spread out over miles of road, though one chase group tried valiantly to catch up.
Klier had worked hard for us all season and sacrificed a lot of his chances at high places to help out Hammond, Burghardt and Hincapie... so we sent him to take the win as our group crossed the line. This race... was a bit of a blowout. Needless to say we won the team competition as well.

Paris-Roubaix
George Hincapie is not a sprinter. We know this. Everyone else knows this. It won't suprise anyone to hear it.
So in order to win the flat Paris-Robaix race, we decided that WE would dictate the race. We were going to set a hard pace over the early cobbled sections and bleed off the helpers who couldn't handle the cobbles as soon as possible to hopefully open things up for a break.
We brought our standard cobbled team. We were extremely suprised to find that Tom Boonen was not in the starting field? Devolder would be the Quickstep lead today. This made us feel a bit more optimistic.
As soon as the cobbles came near we took over the relay at the front of the pelaton.
And we got Hincapie away from the group after several sections were done.
Soon some of the favorites came up to the front and an elite break formed consisting of High Road rider Hincapie, Eisel and Burghardt. This looked to be the move that contains the race winner. Gilbert, Nuyens, Pozzato, Hoste, and Ballan were all present in the lead group.
Ballan attacked and Hincapie was the only rider to be able to go with him. Meanwhile in the third group, Cancellera, Devolder, Flecha and O'Grady were working hard to join the elite chasers.
As they got over the cobbles and came into the town, there were three two man groups. Ballan and Hincapie in the lead, Hoste and Cancellera chasing, and Flecha and Devolder chasing them.
Less than a kilometer from the Velodrome and Hoste and Cancellera make contact. It's a four man race heading in.
Hoste starts setting a brutal pace around the track, but Hincapie is able to hold his wheel. Ballan and Cancellera are struggling.
They start sprinting... but Ballan stops when he sees he's got no legs left. He's completely wiped out and will have to settle for 4th. But Cancellera is gaining on Hincapie's wheel.
Coming up to the line and George tries to make a move to the inside. Can he do it?
No, Hoste is just too strong. A brilliant sprint win for the Lotto rider! Hincapie takes second and Cancellera finishes third in a wonderful finish to the last of the big cobbled classics.
Devolder outsprints Flecha for 5th.
And Burghardt follows Gilbert's wheel for a great 8th place result. Klier coasts across in 12th and Eisel (way in the back there) is able to barely drag his bike across the line for 13th. The other guys in the picture have a lap to go.

A small hilly race, we're hear mainly to get some of our guys some form prior to the hilly classics... Amstel Gold, La Fleche Wallone and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. With Kirchen not focusing on these races we probably don't have a shot at winning any of these but we do hope we can score some top 10's and maybe top 5's.
We're also putting a few race days for Michael Rogers who'll be riding the hilly classics in preparation for the Giro.
The team:
Leader: Thomas Lövkvist
Sprinter: Edvald Boasson Hagen
Free Rider: Kanstantsin Siutsou
Free Rider: Michael Rogers
Teammate: Adam Hansen
Teammate: Marco Pinotti
Lovkvist wasn't able to answer Casar's attack, having wasted a lot of energy countering an attack by Voeckler earlier. He was able to attack to lead the chase group across the line and take 4th.

While not a huge race like the big three cobbled classics, this is a fairly well attended classic and most of the top riders are in pretty good shape. Our guys are already ramping down their fitness but they still feel very good so we're hoping for a good result.
Eisel isn't riding here, replaced instead by Boassen Hagen. Other than that it's the standard Cobbled team.
When things broke up over the cobbles, Hincapie was in the lead group. Hammond hung on for a while but would be unable to stick with Hincapie, Devolder, Hoste, Pozzato and Flecha.
Hincapie got caught in the front going into the finish and was forced to lead out the sprint.
But Pozzato rocketed by and took the win. Hincapie hung in for 3rd.
Hammond stayed ahead of the pack for 6th and Burghardt placed a well timed attack late to earn 7th.

GP de Denain Porte du Hainaut
A flat course with a finish made for sprinters. We're using this as another warm up. Lovkvist is getting ready for the hilly classics and some of our other riders are starting to get ready for the Giro. We're using some cobbled riders as teammates as well as they wind down the meat of their season.
The team:
Leader: Lovkvist
Sprinter: Greipel
Free: Klier
Teammate: Grabsch
Teammate: Pinotti
Teammate: Knaven
Teammate/leadout: Sieberg
The break was brought back well before the finish line, but with 20km to go Maaskant surges away from the pack.
And he has no problems staying away as the pack was slow to react. Maskaant cruises across the line with 30 seconds on the pack.
Allan Davis wins the sprint for second. Greipel looked good for a while but faded to 6th.

Amstel Gold Race
This top event is one of the big hilly classics leading up to Liege-Bastogne-Liege. We don't have a top rider in top form for this one, but Lovkvist and Sitsuo are in solid form and Kirchen's form isn't horrible. Hopefully a top 10 is in the cards.
The Team:
Leader: Kim Kirchen
Free: Thomas Lövkvist
Free: Michael Rogers
Free: Kanstantsin Siutsou
Teammate: Tony Martin
Teammate: Edvald Boasson Hagen
Teammate: Sergio Luis Henao
Teammate: Morris Possoni
The route has some sharp hills and should favor a late attack from the puncheurs. The early break was reeled in and the punchers attacked, led by CSC's Karsten Kroon. Kirchen went with the group.
Valverde was struggling a bit and loses contact coming over a late climb.
And the pace is too fast for Kirchen as well, and he loses contact coming down the last downhill before the finishing climb.
Kroon surges forward as they begin the last ascent. Valverde and Kirchen are trying to close the gap.
And Kroon pulls away to win the race.
Cunego rides away from Wegman to take second.
Kirchen completely runs out of gas and is barely able to inch up the hill and cross the finish line. Valverde manages to pass him in the final 200 meters to put Kim in 8th.
When the pack reaches the final climb, Rebellin pulls away to take 9th. Lovkvist barely gets edged by Voigt in the battle for 10th place.
The race was slightly disappointing as we feel Kirchen could have taken a top 5 in this race pretty easily if he had trained just a little differently. As it stands though, we got a top 10 in a race Kirchen had not focused on, so we feel okay about it.

Tour of Georgia - Stage 1
Another big US race, we're looking for a strong result from Thomas Lovkvist here. Andre Greipel is looking to get in shape for the Giro here, where he'll be leading out Eisel in the sprints. We're also getting some of the younger guys some experience too.
Team:
Leader: Thomas Lovkvist
Sprinter: Andre Greipel
Free Rider: John Devine
Teammate/Leadout: Marcel Sieberg
Teammate: Adam Hansen
Teammate: Marco Pinotti
Teammate: Craig Lewis
Teammate: Fabio Duarte
The stage for the day is very flat and should give Greipel a chance to stretch his legs. Andre is the race favorite ahead of Fred Rodriguez.
In order to avoid spending a lot of energy chasing, we sent Adam Hansen in the break. It was quite large, and Adam just sat at the back and conserved energy.
The pelaton didn't really react though. Apparently they still thought we should chase. As the race went on, some break members started sensing they could get a win here and the pace picked up. Hansen, who was well rested helped push the pace.
As winded riders started peeling off the back of the break the pelaton started picking up the pace. Apparently they realized we must have felt good about Hansen's chances. The Pelaton started getting close and Hansen's fellow break members seemed totally beat. With 7km to go Hansen attacked.
And the other two weren't able to follow. Hansen wins the stage and takes a suprising lead in the race.
Marcus Ljungqvist hung on for second and Roman Kireyev just barely stayed ahead of the sprinters coming in to give all three podium spots to members of the breakaway. Greipel finished second amongst the sprinters behind Goss.

Tour of Georgia - Stage 2
Another sprint stage. With the lead from Hansen we knew we'd be expected to chase down the break. Rather than have to do that we sent John Devine in the break. He picked up early mountain points then sat at the back of the break and waited for the group to be caught.
The sprint was tight, and we had good positio but Fred Rodriguez of Rock Racing picked up the win. Greipel took second and Sieberg followed Rodriguez's wheel for third. A nice 2-3 for the team.

La Fleche Wallonne
Another major hilly classic. With Lovkvist racing in the Tour of Georgia this race will solely rest on the shoulders of Kim Kirchen. Still, with less than 10 race days on the season a win is probably just not in the cards. We'll be riding for another top 10 finish.
The team:
Leader: Kim Kirchen
Free: Michael Rogers
Free: Kanstantsin Siutsou
TEammate: Sergio Luis Henao
Teammate: Edvald Boasson Hagen
Teammate: Morris Possoni
Teammate: Tony Martin
Teammate: Diego Ulissi
Siutsou went on the TV break today and was extremely strong. In fact, when the favorites attacked he was able to ride with them and help Kirchen out. When the favorites attacked, the front group included Kirchen, Siutsou, Voigt and Rebellin.
As they hit the next hill, Siutsou used the last of his reserves pulling the group forward. Bertagnolli was able to join them in the ascent. Shortly after that effort, Siutsou cracked completely from his efforts on the break and was quickly swallowed then surpassed by the Pelaton.
As the lead group began the final ascent, it consisted of just 5 riders. Rebellin, Nocentini, Bertagnolli, Kirchen and Voigt.
As they climbed Nocentini cracked and started to fall back. Then Kirchen started struggling and he cracked as well.
Rebellin was definitely the strongest of the three remaining as he powered up the slope for the big win. Voigt took second and Bertagnolli third. Kirchen inched over the line in 4th place, just off the podium.
Cunego charged up the last hill, but Nocentini was just able to hold on for 5th.
A very good ride for Kirchen. He's in average form at best, so a top 5 in a big race like this is an excellent ride. Siutsou had a great ride as well, his work once Kirchen joined the lead break really helped the team out.

Tour of Georgia - Stage 3
The first sorting stage of the tour, this hilly route will start to show who the real contenders are. While we'll do what we can to keep Hansen in the lead, the real team focus will be to support Lovkvist as Hansen will struggle to keep up in the mountains.
Devine went on the break. He sat on the back for the most part, only coming to the front to take mountain points.
On the third to last classified climb Devine had pulled away from the other break members. The pelaton was closing, but he put in a huge effort to stay away and try to take one more mountain sprint.
The effort was successful as Devine just narrowly beat the pelaton over the climb.
Going up the last classified climb a group of favorites broke from the pelaton. Hansen was unable to keep pace with the group, but Lovkvist was able to go along. Devine was also able to stay up front... exceptional riding from the young American.
As they came up the final ascent to the finish, Lovkvist made his move, attacking from the front of the relay. Sevilla and Danielson tried to answer.
But Lovkvist was well rested and had plenty of punch to lead the break across the line. A great win for Thomas, moving him up to second in the overall standings just behind Hansen, who hung on with the pack.
Devine's domination today in the classified climbs probably means he has that competition locked up. He should be able to hang back and support Lovkvist through the rest of the race.

awesome results, keep up the good work. Are you peaking Lövkvist for the Giro?

Originally he was going to be my 1B rider for the Giro... with Michael Rogers as 1A.
Now... I'm wavering a bit.
I'm thinking I may keep him out to lead Volta Ciclista Catalunya instead, then ramp him down and have him in the Tour instead.
Right now I'm sure that Rogers, Eisel, and Greipel will be in the Giro. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have Boassen Hagen, Siutsuo and my Italians as well (Pinotti, Possoni and Ulissi). I'm not sure if putting Lovkvist in that final spot would be a bit overkill and leave me short in the later grand tours.
I may go with Burghardt to get his experience maxed out... or I may go with another TT guy to help in the team time trial (Grabsch, Martin or Hansen).
If I do keep Lovkvist out, he'd be the main helper for Kirchen in the TDF. Wiggins will be there to try for a prologue win, Hincapie and Devine as mountain helpers and Cavendish as my main sprinter. I still haven't made up my mind if I can score a top 10 with Kirchen due to his low TT skill, or if I need to race Gerdeman here as well as in the Vuelta.

Tour of Georgia - Stage 4
The individual time trial, it's likely Hansen will lose his jersey here. However there is a very good chance that Lovkvist will be the one to step in and take it.
In the end, Hansen had a solid ride, enough to take 9th in the stage and hold on to 3rd in the overall.
Lovkvist however had a GREAT ride. He won the stage by 24 seconds and opened up a lead of almost a minute prior to tomorrow's mountain stage.

Tour of Georgia - Stage 5
This is the Tour of Georgia's definitive mountain stage. With Devine having the mountain jersey locked up we won't be sending anyone on any early breaks. We'll all be working for Thomas.
The break went like normal and our guys brought it back at the base of the final climb, one that plateaus after each difficult section.
Tom Danielson lead off the attacks toward the bottom of the climb.
None of the other favorites went with Tom, so we thought that the rest would be able to chase him down. Unfortunately, we couldn't make any headway... Danielson kept getting further and further away. Finally on the second part of the climb Lovkvist led an attack that eventually ended up in him, Larson and Sevilla getting away from the bunch. But Danielson was so far up the road he wasn't in sight.
Lovkvist worked his tail off on the climb, but Danielson finished well ahead of the rest of the field.
Lovkvist sprinted his heart out and took second... but lost two minutes and 42 seconds to Danielson... and lost the leaders jersey.

There will be a delay until my next update.
Basically, I'm without internet connection to the desktop I play on for a little while due to some home renovations. I'm still playing and I'll have a heck of a backlog to process once I upload all my screenshots into photobucket.
If I'm lucky I'll be connected next weekend... if not the weekend after that.

Okay... the delay in getting my home internet going is taking longer then expected. Like most home renovations... things got harder than expected once everything got torn up.
So I'm going to do some old fashioned sneaker-net work and get the pictures and results onto my laptop so I can start getting updates done. I'm all the way through the Giro and into the Dauphine-Libre so I've got a lot of stuff built up. I'm afraid if I wait any longer I'll be demoralized from the amount to post and just give up on it.
So, the posts should begin coming tonight or tomorrow.

Tour of Georgia - Stage 6
A bit of a hilly stage, though not too rough, Lovkvist tried to push the pace and attack toward the end to maybe gain some time on Danielson. It wasn't to be though, and Borrajo took the stage.
