Phelps has, as I write this, 5 gold medals in 5 tries in Beijing, and 11 gold medals in his olympic career, two more than anyone else in history. He is, with no debate possible, the greatest swimmer and possibly athlete in the world. So all I can say is USA! USA! USA!
no doubt best athlete in the world, and rediculous 4x200 relay breaking the world record by a comftorable margin. This relay was as domintated by the USA as the 4x100 was close. The 4x100 was absolutely amazing, and was ever so sweat to come back on the french in the closing meters.
Plus, he and Katie Hoff are pretty much locals for me .

Sort of with me, as Baltimore is only a 45 minute drive for me, you however win, only being 15-20 minutes away from the city. But hey, what the hell, we both know Bethesda is better than Gaithersberg
I know a few coachs that have been to newport when Hoy was there getting ready for the Olympics that Hoy was doing faster that World Record 200 times. Newport is not a fast track so what he is going to do in Beijing will be pheonominal. I get a good feeling that we can get revenge on the french too in the team sprint
Hehe, no really, I prefer the national hanboll teams not to win, because my friend plays handball and he always tells me how bad our national icehockey team is when they don't win. I have played icehockey as you could guess...

First it was Telma Monteiro, World Champion in Judo who had to fight injured and thus lost.
Now Vanessa Fernandes, the 22 year old current World and European Thriathlon champion (5 european titles in a row and counting) is reportedly suffering from a stomach bug.
Not good.

He's just the best athlete in the world because there are so much different competitions in swimming. YOu don't see a 400m running backwards in athletics or an "cycling on the lowest gear" competition in cycling. But I don't know which to remove of the swimming styles so I think they could be as they are.
But it's kind of unfair in the "best olympics athlete of all time" competition I think

We are the best Summer Olympic nation, having won the overall medal count in god knows how many Olympics
It annoys me that Phelps is dubbed the Greatest Olympian ever just because he has won the most Gold medals. There are so many swimming event in the Olympics which really arent too dissimilar for someone as good as he is.
Most Successful Olympian in terms of Gold Medals? Yes
Greatest ever Olympic Swimmer? Probably
Greatest Olympian ever? No
Also - whats with some Americans calling him the "winningest Olympic athlete ever"? They do know that winningest isnt a real word right?
