Everyone can have a lucky day, Bäckstedt came 2nd in a tour de france stage after McEwen a few years ago, and he isn't exactly the fastest |

Me neither, I was just highlighting that he is a great finisher. I think he got a 3rd in a mass sprint finish in last year's Giro d'Italia.
I think "great" is really stretching it. I remember him coming third, but I also remember there were no good sprinters left by then except Petacchi and Richeze
And even then he only came immediately behind them in one of the sprints
I disagree and I'm stickin' with 'great'. I don't know if you caught Post Danmark Rundt last year, you probably didn't since it's not exactly a prestigious race, but Matti outsprinted Enrico Gasparotto on the first stage for the win and one of the later stages he finished 3rd in a bunch sprint behind Mark Cavendish and Francesco Chicchi if I remember correctly. Also in Tour of Ireland he outsprinted Edvald Boasson Hagen for a stage win and I surely rate Hagen as a great finisher.
It could be my bias talking, but Matti is incredibly fast.

"Great" is overrating Matti. Admit it |

It's overrating him if you put it before 'sprinter', but not if you put it before 'finisher'. I'm stubborn, so I probably won't budge.

I have a general idea of the results. Off the top of my head I can name 3 stage winners plus the overall.

It is your bias
Seriously, Gasparotto is also extremely far from being even a "good" sprinter. he's decent. Same with Hagen. And finishing behind Chicchi and Cavendish isn't hard. Anyone can do that It's about who he beats regularly

If he fulfills his potential he can win the biggest cobble classics one day. Of course, that's a pretty big if. It's not as likely as, for instance, Van Avermaet

The peloton has been split into two large groups, and Freire is in the "wrong" group. This should be an easy one for Petacchi then. |

Freire said he wouldnt join the sprint anyway, because he wants to take no risk for Milaan Sanremo |

Today he beat Tom Boonen for 7th in E3 Prijs in a sprint. B)

Wouldn't really call it a sprint, and I don't think Boonen did his best either....and Boonen is hardly one of the best sprinter in the world
Not saying he isn't good, just saying it's not a proof of him being a great sprinter |
