I couldn't watch the race but catched the last kilometers on cyclinghub. Good racing by TVG. Contador did pretty alright, dropping Porte but then running out of gas. Giro will be freaking amazing (Contador vs Portechkin, Aru & Uran Uran)
27 minutes for Froome. Did he crash or is it illness, or just some chilling in the grupetto?

Huge chance for De Clerq to take his biggest ever win here. He deserves it given all the work he does for over people.

Not in shape after illness (chest infection) and decided to sit back in the grupetto I guess.

Some good echelons racing right now, De Clerq is dropped. Kinda happy to see that as I would like to see the best rider win instead of some break from the first stage |

Out in the crosswinds, leading the whole way down and just leaving them behind. Pure fucking class by Valverde, once again. |

Bad bit of poker from Contador, didn´t want to close the gap to Valverde himself but neither did the others.

Nah, Valverde was basically just riding them off the wheel and was obviously the strongest. The critique of Valverde relying too much on his sprint doesnt really apply anymore, he did the same on the descent/flat part in San Sebastian. Much more of a rouleur-type than Contador, Aru, Rodriguez etc. which he sadly has realized a little too late. He actually still has a good shot for the overall or at least the podium after todays performance.
Very good outlook for the Tour. I say Valverde has very good chances of winning on Mur de Huy or/and Bretagne and some other stages suites him perfect as well this year, fx. the stage to Mende or Gap allthough they generally tend to be dominated by the break. A stage victory, overall for Quintana (especially helping him on the coblbes) and a top-10 should be the goal for him there as he cant follow the best in July on the big slopes. But I suspect him of wanting a little more still. Hope he realizes he cant compeat with the best and focuses on helping Quintana in the 3rd week. |

I don't think you can apply his current mood to le Tour. He should woulda win all of that stuff, but you know that le Tour and Valv is a story of his own.
Very strong by Valverde, watched the final kilometers on yt. He's been racing stunningly in Strade Bianche and I love when he takes matters in his own hands. I hope he'll race like this at the Ardennes classics since his racing really makes or breaks the Ardennes in terms of excitement when it comes down to it. Crossing fingers he won't think about it too much then or gets cold feet. In the current form, he's top game for Ardennes. Hope he first reins havoc down on the peloton on the last day. Portechkin in white really strong, highly likely he'll be highest placed SKY rider at the end of the year the way he's collecting points. Against Aru and Uran he'll have tough competition for the podium at the Giro though.
Too bad about De Clerq, but even when the race organization lays it down to you and you lose the race in a way like this, than you just don't deserve it, even if that sounds harsh.
Some proper racing in Catalunya. The race organization doesn't really deserve it, but the stages once more prove that not the profiles make the race but the riders themselves.

I stole it from Kirchen.
Also, as strong as Valverde was, Contador let the gap open up, and I wonder why. Bertie clearly has been annoyed at doing so much work for the other riders at times, pointing to the others to ride on various occasions throughout this week's racing. Now I am not saying that Valv wasn't damn impressive cuz he was, but not quite sure why Bertie would just let Valv go so easy, it definitely looked like it on screen.
Because Valv's down a bit in GC, to get a bit of a collaboration going between the two of them, simply to piss of SKY and the others? Bertie knows he didn't stand a chance for stage win here today either way, and just... played it tactical for lulz? Uhm. With Valv and Bertie close to Porte, both profit from it probably. Portechkin and SKY will have their hands full in the last two stages.
