Imagine how Bardiani must feel, though. Only Ciolek was good (bad) enough to avoid them taking the last 4 places here
I don't feel bad, this was to be expected. |

Continental Championships
Time for the Road Race Events now! Our first event starts with riders from Africa, Oceania and Asia. Favorites for today? Porte, Sithembile, Po-ding Kom, Goss, Evans, Gerrans...
Continental Championships - Aufrasian Road Race Event
MTN took the front positions at the start, they must've had a plan ready!
As soon as the flag went down, Day and Reguigui were off!
But it wasn't as easy as that. It took over 40 kilometers to finally form the break of the day. Turning into the local lap, we had Clarke, Bobridge, Miyazawa, Thomson and Jiao.
The race continued as Orica and Europcar did the most work in the chase. Then, 60 kilometers from the finish, just when the peloton turned up the pace and the rain came pouring down, Evans went down!
We'd never see him again for the victory. Dennis was the first of the favorites to attack.
Porte didn't want to stick around and went looking for him.
And so the war began. Groups were being formed and disbanded constantly. Suddenly, we saw Gerrans coming up to Porte and taking the lead.
Behind them, there was no sign of cooperation at all.
Porte and Gerrans got together and rode together for about one lap, when Gerrans decided to attack once again. The final lap now!
Kim put his team mate to work, but it was no use, they were riding for place 3 only.
Porte had the Australian Champion in his sights on the final climb of the Cauberg, but the gap was too large to bridge.
And so Gerrans took the victory after showing great skill and daring racing! Porte came in second.
Sithembile completed the podium, placing Team Sky at place 2 and 3.
And, very surprising, the breakaway companions held up excellent, sprinting for places 8 - 12.

Just a shame the route isn't flat, or I'd have fancied our chances! |

Errrrrrrrm, no comment.
Can we transfer riders now??
I also just realised I had a massive brainfail when doing Dippo's prediction game and put Haussler 3rd thinking it was the Aussie NC route. This one's a little bit tough for Heinrich methinks.

Yeah, i couldn't really believe it either. Then again, somebody thought Impey would lead for Orica, which wasn't the best prediction either.
(Though it was by far not the worst. )

Continental Championships
America will get in the field today and battle for the American Continental Championship. What could be expected today? A battle between two countries: USA and Colombia!
Continental Championships - American Road Race Event
The attacks came early today!
The breakaway is formed easily, with little to no resistance from the peloton. They were Rollin, Moyano, Andriato, Jones, Powers.
Sky took on the burden of chasing.
And then we waited. Three laps from the finish, Talansky attacked!
And so the race opened for real. Teams stopped chasing, it was up to the leaders.
A group of favorites formed quickly. But then the game of bluffing began, and the breakaway was still out there!
The group of favorites contained Talansky, Cervero, Quintana, Betancur, Cristobal Riquelme, Henao, Horner, Hesjedal.
Betancur wanted a tough finale today, he took the high road!
His attack killed many spirits. Only Henao was able to rejoin the head of the race. The breakaway was reeled in during the long stretched attack.
Talansky came close, but didn't make the connection. He fell through and had to start riding for the podium. Just one lap left.
Flash forward, the leaders turn and face the final climb of the Cauberg, still together.
No attacks on the climb. It would be decided in the sprint!
One man was stronger than the other. We already knew it would be a Colombian, but which one?
Little Carlos sprinted to victory quite easily!
Talansky held off the opponents and took the last remaining podium place, after a tough lap, riding against the wind all alone. A nice performance for him.
And once again members from the breakaway sneak into the top 10. Maybe this will play a part in the European Championships, too? Getting into the breakaway might be more important then usual in these championships.
