Tour of Indonesia stage 3

imageshack.com/a/img24/3302/xtvj.jpg

Today is an almost pan flat ITT where I hope to gain back a little bit of time on some of the others.

Since last time it failed and was pretty boring anyway, I'll just cut to the chase.

imageshack.com/a/img208/4179/tqu1.jpg

Marco Pinotti set an exceptional time today, of 51:57

imageshack.com/a/img21/474/9uv9.jpg

I went third 1 minute nine behind Pinotti, a strong time.

imageshack.com/a/img33/1476/bcvb.jpg

But Pinotti's time was not the one to beat!
Kyrienka soon went faster by 28 seconds.

imageshack.com/a/img823/7830/ifwd.jpg

But the last man to go faster than me was my great White jersey rival Tony Gallopin, he looked set to destroy me. But he's only put 5 seconds in to me, and maybe I could switch things round for the next one.

imageshack.com/a/img21/83/jpvc.jpg

Thankfully he was the last guy to beat me, as Gavazzi Tiernan Locke and Rebellin all went slower, each losing over 3 minutes.
The time gaps were 4:14, 3:31 and 3:39 respectively.

The Hobbit
Tour of Indonesia stage 4

imageshack.com/a/img849/2764/2p52.jpg

This is the profile of today's route. It had to be slightly shortened because of uh, snowfall, in the tropics, somehow, but the important thing is the finish is the same. It is a steep uphill ramp before a descent and a technical finish. I can't sprint so I'm going to attack on the climb if I can.

imageshack.com/a/img809/2457/ln80.jpg

Despite already having secured his jersey Johannes Blom was in the break again to sweep up as many points as he could, his only real rival. Van der Lijke was there too though, trying to secure second.

Other than him he was joined by Brammeier of Champion Systems, Miletta of Vini Fantini, Hupond of Argos and Guillou of Bretagne Schuller.

They got 4:50 lead but a triple entente of Sky, IAM and Astana hunted them down.

imageshack.com/a/img405/3446/q2j6.jpg

When they saw that the break wasn't going to succeed Van der Lijke and Blom both made efforts, but both were in vein as they were both reeled in.

imageshack.com/a/img708/7320/7i16.jpg

So we fast forward to the final climb, the pace has been tough but well timed, so Van der Lijke was caught just at its foot. A real selection was made, and I made the cut, in the white jersey as Gallopin was in green.

imageshack.com/a/img802/258/3mkd.jpg

And as promised I attacked, the pace was hot, but I made a move just after Gallopin had attacked, so the others were tired. I got a small gap and went into TT mode, gaining seconds not places.

I had 30 seconds over the top and put all my energy into the descent, I didn't care about the stage, if I got caught I didn't fancy sprinting anyway.

imageshack.com/a/img845/1882/y6el.jpg

Thankfully I was clear under 1km, the chasing group had slacked off trying to win the sprint for second instead.

imageshack.com/a/img547/1753/ywlz.jpg

Now all there was left was to throw myself through the corners but not fall off, there was not time to celebrate, I had to squeeze every second.

imageshack.com/a/img33/5553/qxah.jpg

I did it, YES, my first victory and in my home country as well, this stage was even on Sulawesi, my home island! I felt honoured and then the adrenalin washed away, and all that was left was pain...

imageshack.com/a/img69/5059/dtvl.jpg
imageshack.com/a/img32/9310/g9le.jpg

The big names sprinted in behind, looking for the remaining bonus seconds, the only man who was really losing out today was Tony Gallopin, I would earn my white jersey tomorrow.

imageshack.com/a/img855/1383/ypxb.jpg

imageshack.com/a/img51/7726/f6yj.jpg

I take the white jersey, the stage and move up to second in GC!!! Peaking for this was definitely working, and with just a flat stage and a TT to go, who knows what could happen?

Tour of Indonesia Stage 5

imageshack.com/a/img826/5510/2dv7.jpg

The final full stage of the tour is almost pan flat, but with two small undulations near the end, not enough to attack or make any real effect though. My biggest problem will be making sure Tony doesn't nick any time bonuses. We will be leading out Ricardo, and I'll sit on his wheel hoping for a result.

imageshack.com/a/img546/5553/hzw3.jpg

For the first, and last time, Johannes was not in the break! After all there were no KOM points! Instead it was made up of
Van der Lijke of Rabobank Development, Guillou of Bretagne Schuller, Van Niekerk of MTN, Kozubek of Bauknecht, Høberg of Christina Watches, Warbasse of BMC, Bouyer of Europcar and Polivarda of ummm ARH...

They got chased by Sky, IAM, Orica and Ag2r, all trying to set it up for their sprinters, but the break still got out to 4:33

imageshack.com/a/img593/481/q1de.jpg

With 21 km to go German Patrick Gretsch made a move, it didn't last long and he never got a minute, but at least he tried.

imageshack.com/a/img706/215/ll1l.jpg

Ricardo took Hinault's wheel and I took his.

imageshack.com/a/img707/4907/6anh.jpg

We made the right choice, IAM were dominant, and we were looking to take all the credit.

imageshack.com/a/img23/83/3amb.jpg

And Hinault had gone far too early! He had blown it and was pulling us through to boot.

imageshack.com/a/img580/3945/vz0q.jpg

And yet no one had the strength to go round him, by now me and Ricardo were both tired, we stood. Little chance, but others did,

imageshack.com/a/img542/6384/hlfe.jpg

Finally some one was coming round. Leigh Howard of Orica was steaming by, with Tony Gallopin on his wheel.

imageshack.com/a/img28/6821/8l9y.jpg

And he won! Rather irritatingly Tony got second, and me and Ricardo only took 8th and 11th.

imageshack.com/a/img20/646/4qrw.jpg

Here is the result.

The Hobbit
Tour of Indonesia Stage 6

imageshack.com/a/img96/6300/vunc.jpg

Today is a rolling time trial. My speciality! I hope to do well here and maybe even nab a few seconds into Kyrienka.

imageshack.com/a/img850/7558/na9p.jpg

Brett Lancaster was fast again, completing the course in 1:02:03

imageshack.com/a/img405/1504/74h9.jpg

He was beaten by German Patrick Gretsch, who finished in 1:01:43

imageshack.com/a/img600/4545/ryf6.jpg

Johannes Blom demonstrated today that when he isn't aiming for the KOM points tomorrow he's no slouch in the TT, he set a strong time, 2nd place losing just 12 seconds.

imageshack.com/a/img580/4853/9x67.jpg

Ricardo didn't trouble the leaderboard today, but the man behind him did.
Brent Bookwalter went fastest by 30 seconds.

imageshack.com/a/img266/3070/5y11.jpg

As with the last TT though he was thoroughly beaten by teammate Marco Pinotti, who took off another 27 seconds.

imageshack.com/a/img600/5365/2r11.jpg

Meanwhile I'd gone fastest at the first time check, with only Kyrienka to go!

imageshack.com/a/img14/4646/1wza.jpg

The results began to come through my ear...
Montaguti loses 1 minute
Siutsov loses 41 seconds.
Voigt loses 13 seconds.

imageshack.com/a/img18/2964/gxzi.jpg

My big rival Tony Gallopin loses 1:06 and goes 7th.

imageshack.com/a/img28/5613/vnq3.jpg

Next up was me...

I Went seconds, losing 9 seconds to Pinotti, I had done all I could, it was down to Kyrienka. He had to lose almost a minute for me to win. Unlikely, but possible.

Sorry internet has crashed 5 times now, will have to wait a bit.

The Rider
Indonesia is going really well for Walter, no doubt he is becoming pretty 'big' down in that region.

Kiriyenka will be a tough nut to crack though.... Wink

The Hobbit
Yeah, it's not much of a drama, I mean there's no way he's losing a minute right? Well you know that's what I would have thought....

The Conclusion

But first, a little reminder of the races so far...

imageshack.com/a/img96/1370/d6b2.jpg
imageshack.com/a/img547/1753/ywlz.jpg

And now, the conclusion, tehehehe.

imageshack.com/a/img14/3275/ntzj.jpg

Vasil Kyrienka crosses the line, he's the last man across, the deciding factor, but had he won?

His time...

59:55

It didn't take me too long to work out the maths.
He'd won, not only the jersey but the stage as well!

What a performance, well you've got to take your hat off to the man, I only hope someday I'll succeed him...

Controversial signing for UHC

Contrary to UCI regulations, pro continental team United Healthcare pro cycling have added another young rider to their squad. Under normal circumstances the UCI would come down on this like a tonne of bricks, but today they had decided to look the other way, specifically at the big sack of money that had just been 'donated' by Indonesian businessman The Hobbit.

The rider is Brazilian Cobbler/TTist Bruno Ramires da Costa, and it is said that he is very talented indeed. In fact he is the best cobbler in the squad and only a bit behind Indonesian star Walter Susilo in the TTs. More information is to come but for the moment this is all we know, but there may yet be more twists to come in this strange story.

sutty68
Lets hope that the BIG sack of money will be worth it
