one thing that the article made me note: Evans is most certainly not one of the old guard. he's been around forever but that is because he started young. he just barely came into his prime now (as is typical for stage racers at this age)

I was reading it...most fun question will be whoś gonna be this year new strong face..(like Ricco , Marc and Andy Schleck last year). I like to belive that this list isnt closed yet..for riders who will dominate future decade . There is for shure lot of changes because that stupid fight..but as you sayd we dont know yet was it positive or negative result for cycling.
I was surprised how well and fun was to wach last year Vuelta wild card teams..they not just beating Boygues ,but also many other teams. Great choise
curiously, I was thinking of starting a thread/poll on who you all think is going to be the revelation of the season
I'm thinking Haedo or Mandri. of course there are a lot of names that can step up quickly. Ciolek and Breschel being the most obvious ones.

About Mandri...he had arteria surgery. First time will be at the start line at 2.march in Lugano. He's last year Vuelta (first grand tour) was hugh step forward..he is also nice guy (silent one..not Richie Rich type rider) I would like to see him getting even better. |

cycling names mentioned are: totschnig, rasmussen, mentchov, boogerd

ok thing is:
1 week or so ago there was a report here in austria that WADA (Mr. Pound) wanted the austrian government to search for doping proof in the viennese based enterprise "Humanplasma"
of course they denied (https://www.kurier.at/sportundmotor/119726.php text in german)
now ARD comes with the names and more news (but no proof yet)
https://sport.ard....mussen.jsp
https://sport.orf....index.html
both in german ... (shouldn't take long for cyclingnews to bring it, but of course i can translate)

The news reached Denmark early this morning and is now being reported in the national news too. It's like "Oh my God, did Rasmussen really dope himself?!?!" |

I can make a doping accusation just as easily: At the Tour of Denmark in 2005, i saw Bjarne Riis walk around with a huuuuuge bag filled with various performance-enhancers.

here's the kicker: if this is true, this goes Rasmussen -> Menchov -> Dekker?
I wonder what Ruben's take on this is
Freire and Flecha I have no doubt are on the juice, the others I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Andrea Tafi, Michele Bartoli, Ivan Basso, Tyler Hamilton, Fabrizio Guidi, Michael Rasmussen, Giovanni Lombardi, plus a bucketload of danes. All of them were employed by Riis.
That's why I couldn't be 100% sure

it wasn't an extensive list...and that's just the guys who were caught.
Gee Mr.Riis, can you tell me again that bedtime story where you have an anti-doping programme that's bulletproof?

I'm happy for all the people I know who are Biathlon fans who now realise that doping is in every sport, not just cycling

Well, they might not realize it anyway. After all, this is just rumours. Operation Puerto also proved that lots of other sports are affected by doping, but in the end, it was swept under the carpet. I think the same will happen to this too. |

Gee Mr.Riis, can you tell me again that bedtime story where you have an anti-doping programme that's bulletproof? What's bullet-proof is that none of his rider has ever been caught positive, whilst being in his team. Almost the same as Bruyneel's (if you don't count Padrnos 2001 and Armstrong's 1999 EPO found in 2005). |
