Thanks Sutty
Tour Oman Stage 2
Today is a hillier stage today than yesterday, which should probably put Markus out of the question. There is a big hill before the finish, so riders who can climb and sprint will see today as an opportunity. The main riders who will look to finish highly today include Rojas (Movistar), Felline (Andrioni) and race leader Davis (GreenEdge). The sprinters could hold on however, so it could be a very interesting finale.
130kms to go
The break of the day is formed. It contains Konovalovas (MTN), Anderson (Champion), Koch (Cannondale), Lemarchand (Cofidis) and Marycz (CCC). They pull out a 2’20” gap relatively quickly over the peloton controlled by GreenEdge.
60kms to go
The peloton, controlled by Astana and GreenEdge let the break get a gap up to 5’40”, and have now started to pull a bit harder. The gap is currently 4’55” up to the break who are riding well together.
10kms to go
Astana pull on the front and after the penultimate climb the gap is 52” to the break. That will surely disappear over the other climb. Markus and the other sprinters are still near the front, they have not fallen back yet.
5kms to go
We are now on the final climb and as the break are caught Elissonde attacks for us. He seems to be feeling good, and with the long descent to the finish after the climb who knows what could happen? The sprinters have started to suffer behind as the road kicks up to 11%
2kms to go
But Elissonde fades and Lastras flies into the lead for Movistar after attacking at the start of the descent. He has a 10” gap back to the Frenchman, who is 12” in front of the peloton. Markus has gone backwards over the climb, so it looks as if he will not contest the stage.
1km to go
Lastras is still in the lead and it looks like he will take the stage. It will be very close to see whether Elissonde can take 2nd in front of a flying peloton lead by Iglinsky (Astana), who is leading out Nibali.
Finish
Lastras wins the stage for Movistar after a daring attack on the descent. A great result from him, his second good result this year after he won the Vuelta a Mallorca. Behind the Spaniard, Elissonde is still in front of the peloton. Can he hold on?...
Finish
Elissonde finishes just in front of the peloton, a good ride from him which collects him some extra bonus seconds which could help him in the mountains. Visconti and Costa lead home the pack behind, Making it a Movistar 1-3-4! Albasini (GreenEdge) rounds out the top 5.
Lastras moves into the GC-lead after winning the stage, and Elissonde moves up into third for us. None of the major favourites lost any time today.

There wasn't really a gap at the end, I wasn't really surprised.

Tour Oman Stage 3
Today is the third stage of the Tour Oman. It is not as hilly as yesterday but still is not completely pan-flat. The main sprinters should be the favorites, and the ones who did on stage 1 should feature. The main favorites include Davis (GreenEdge), Guardini (Astana) and Haedo (Cannondale). Markus will hope to do well for us.
Finish
Davis takes his second win of the tour for GreenEdge probably due to his hill stat. Many sprinters fell back on the climbs, including riders like Petacchi, Haedo, Markus and Guardini to name a few. Rojas takes second on the stage for Movistar, while Commeyne (Accent) rounds out the podium. Our best finisher was Markus in 16th.
| 1 | Allan Davis | Orica - GreenEdge | 4h38'47 | | 2 | José Joaquín Rojas | Movistar Team | s.t. | | 3 | Davy Commeyne | Accent Jobs - Wanty | s.t. | | 4 | Sep Vanmarcke | Blanco Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | | 5 | Pablo Lastras | Movistar Team | s.t. |
Tour Oman Stage 4
The only mountain stage of the tour is today, and it should decide the GC. Favourites are the main climbers, and there are lots of them. Riders like Nibali (Astana), Costa (Movistar) and Horner (RadioShack) will all be hoping to do well today. We are hoping for a good performance from Elissonde, but it will be tough with such big names attending.
110kms to go
The break is soon formed, with the main names in the group being Pardilla (MTN), Kruijswijk (Blanco) and Felline (Andrioni). The closest rider on the GC is Taciak (CCC), who is 50” down on Lastras. The group has 2’20” on the peloton which is controlled by Movistar.
55kms to go
Movistar have the break under tight control, with the gap at only 2’35”, after peaking at around 3’50”. The break must seem too dangerous to them with GC-threats in the group like Kruijswijk and Pardilla who are within a minute of Lastras.
15kms to go
The break has almost all been set up by Movistar, but Molard (Cofidis) has attacked away and has a gap of 45”. The main climbers are moving forward now, with the start of the climb occurring in less than 10kms.
7kms to go
The final climb has started and Molard is all swept up. Movistar are still on the front and Lastras seems strong, he will be hoping for the race to stay together. Elissonde is sitting at the back of the train, waiting for an attack.
3kms to go
The road has really kicked up now and is at 12%. Kessiakoff (Astana) has put in a strong attack while the peloton has broken up behind. In the gap between, race leader Lastras is defending his overall lead and trying to shut the gap to the Swede which is 12”. Elissonde is at the front of the peloton which is a further 26” back and is feeling good.
1km to go
Kessiakoff is still dangling in front of Lastras while the peloton behind are struggling to shut them down. It looks as if today’s stage winner will come from this pair. Further behind, Elissonde and Van Niekerk have gone off the front of the peloton in search of the two leaders. They are joined by Nordhaug (Blanco), Horner (RadioShack) and Sanchez (Blanco).
Finish
Kessiakoff wins the stage just 13” in front of Lastras, who retains his GC-lead. The Elissonde group has broken up behind, with Nordhaug and Horner pulling away from the Standard Bank pair. Sanchez has however been dropped.
Finish
Nordhaug and Horner finish 3rd and 4th behind the leading pair, 48” behind. Van Niekerk and Elissonde finish just in the front of the peloton in 5th and 6th. The pair take 32” on the peloton but lose 1’59” to Kessiakoff.
Elissonde drops to 6th overall, but should be able to take the 2” on Davis tomorrow on the hills. Van Niekerk also earns a good GC-placing in provisional 8th.

Thanks Sutty, but I couldn't fit in a ToSA stage today. Will try again tomorrow
Tour Oman Stage 5
Today is the last stage of the race which could potentially influence the GC. With three sharp climbs the puncheurs are the favourites today. The main riders who will look to produce something today look to be Sanchez (Blanco), Gerrans (GreenEdge) and maybe Nibali (Astana) but he looked out of form yesterday. Our main goal for today is to try and move Elissonde and Van Niekerk above Davis in the GC standings.
105kms to go
The break is formed and it contains seven-men. Potential riders of interest are Ignatenko (Katusha) and Vandborg (Cannondale) who are the closest to Lastras on the GC (3’22” down). The group has pulled out a reasonable gap of 2’15” over the peloton which is controlled by Movistar.
44kms to go
As we hit the first of three narrow climbs, the gap from the peloton to the break is 3’45”. Movistar and RadioShack are on the front, seemingly for Lastras and Horner, while the rest of the contenders sit saely in the pack including Elissonde.
22kms to go
The second climb has finished now and most of the break has been swept up. However Vandborg is still in front with a 45” gap. It surely won’t last long though. Behind the peloton has been whittled down to 41-men, and is being pulled hard by Movistar. Some other news is that Davis have been dropped from the peloton, so Elissonde and Van Niekerk will both move up a GC place if the race stays like it is!
10kms to go
Iglinsky attacks on the descent for Astana and has very quickly pulled out a 1’00” gap. It is worth noting that he is not a GC-threat though, so he will most likely not be chased as hard as a GC-contender. Behind, the peloton have crested the top of the climb. There are 33-men left with all the GC-top 10 bar Mate and Davis. Van Niekerk is riding well, though worryingly for us Elissonde has been dropped. Hopefully he can get back to the main group.
1km to go
Iglinsky has a 1’50” gap over the now 14-man group behind which contains Van Niekerk. It is certain he will take the stage. The sprint has started behind, and is started by Costa and Kessiakoff. Elissonde is 30” behind, fighting to close the gap.
Finish
Iglinsky wins it after a daring attack on the final climb. Behind Sanchez is in front of the sprint while Lastras is coming from behind. Van Niekerk back in the group, but is looking ok. Elissonde is now trying to limit his losses.
Finish
Sanchez finishes 2nd for Blanco, with a big margin back to Lastras in 3rd. Costa and Nibali round out the top 5 in 4th and 5th. The group comes in 53" behind Iglinsky. Van Niekerk finishes 11th, safely in the group. We however are focused on Elissonde behind.
Finish
Elissonde finishes 53” behind the favourites group and 1'46" behind Iglinsky. He simply just had bad legs today.
In the GC news Van Niekerk moves up to 6th overall, but Elissonde drops down to 13th. Lastras looks as if he will win the race overall ahead of the final flat stage tomorrow, which is great for him after he won the Vuelta a Mallorca.

Tour of South Africa Stage 1
The first stage of the Tour of South Africa is classified flat, but is quite hilly if you look closer at the profile. The favorites or the stage must be the sprinters however. The two main riders, who look to be head and shoulders above the rest of the Continental field, are Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg and Greald Ciolek (MTN). Also Jonathan Tiernan-Locke should be worth a mention, in case the hills shake off the sprinters.
110kms to go
After a period of unsuccessful attacks a break is finally let go. It contains (Jo Piels), Dvorsky (Bauknecht), Shafer (NSP) and Retschke (Quantec). The four man group have pulled out a gap of 2’20” back to the peloton. MTN lead the chase.
50kms to go
MTN are leading the chase of the men up the road. We are assisting them, as are Jelly Belly. The gap peaked at 6’30” but now has come down to 3’20”, meaning that the break will most likely be caught.
10kms to go
The break look doomed as the peloton pull up behind the attackers. It looks as if there will be a bunch sprint, but the run in is not completely flat. 8kms before the finish there is a small hill which could complicate things.
7kms to go
The break is caught, and on the climb Tiernan-Locke looks to take advantage of the weak field and attacks! He puickly pulls out a 10-second gap. Behind R.Janse Van Rensburg is well positioned behind in case the attack fails. Ciolek is also well positioned for MTN.
4kms to go
Tiernan-Locke has a 50” gap over the peloton! There is a good chance he could steal this. Further back, MTN have set up a train for Ciolek, while Jelly Belly has also set up a train for Huff. R.Janse Van Rensburg is behind Chaoufi, who has been instructed to lead the South African out.
1km to go
The Brit has kept 30” lead going into the final km, despite MTN’s chase and is powering onto the finish. Can he hold on? MTN have the only train behind, and Ciolek is the best positioned sprinter. R.Janse Van Rensburg is a bit further back, but will be looking to sprint through.
Finish
Tiernan-Locke wins the stage with a great ride. The sprinting bunch almost caught him, but he clung on. Strangely Ciolek’s leadout man Stauff comes in 2nd, with the German leader further behind in 8th. Huff rounds out the podium for Jelly Belly. R.Janse Van Rensburg finishes 10th, which is disappointing but he will hope to do better on the flatter stages.
After winning the stage Tiernan-Locke moves into the GC-lead, and will look to retain the jersey during tomorrow’s hilly stage.
