The second of two difficult days, this short 8th stage takes from Belfort, to Porrentruy beyond the swiss border. Despite no summit finishes, the day looks set to be a brutal one, with 7 categorised climbs! Including 5 Cat 2 ascents!
If the peloton chooses to make the day hard, then there are plenty of options, at 20km in comes the first climb, the easy Côte de Bondeval(4). 12km later comes the days only Cat3 difficulty, the 3.8km 6.4% Côte du Passage de la Douleur, which will signal the start of the flowing climbs from here to the finish...
From here to the finish line, are 5 cat 2 climbs: Côte de Maison-Rouge; Côte de Saignelégier; Côte de Saulcy; Côte de la Caquerelle before finally the Col de la Croix, which peaks just 11km from the line!
Nutrixxion-Abus rider, Vermeer is the first to make a move today, there are many chasers unsurprisingly, as the peloton might decide that given the profile, it's a better one to avoid racing over!
Despite being a favourite for tomorrows TT, Wouter Sybrandy was clearly keen to get involved today, winning the first of the KotM sprints on offer.
It wasn't until the slopes of the days second climb that a break group finally formed. The components in the group were; Bertling(Eddy Merckx Indeland) Murray(IG-Sigma Sport); Le Corre(Roubaix Lille Metropole); Anderssen(Concordia-Himmerland); Stuyven(Bontrager-Livestrong); Teuns(Jong Vlaandaren) and Averin(Amore and Vita.)
IG clearly fancied having a go at the KotM today, after Sybrandy took the first of the climbs, it was another IG brit to master the second, Murray collecting the points ahead of Bertling.
A day which could've been left for the break to take success upon, however it's not how it played out at all! The peloton weren't keen on a gap ever getting beyond 2 minutes, a fact which resulted in a very high pace, which shattered the peloton into many pieces as the day drew on!
At the first of the days big climbs, Swedish Concordia rider, Anderssen really took control in the KotM, he took an easy victory on the third climb, easily holding off Murray.
The peloton began to really close the gap on the Col Du Saignelegier. Anderssen keeps the pace high in the break, whilst the Competitive Cyclist team lead the way for the reducing peloton...
At the summit it was clear why he was pacing the break. Easy Sprints took him the next two climbs, confirming him as Polka-Dot for tomorrow!
On the fourth of the days climbs, Australian Duo Lapthorne(Drapac) and Mccarthy(Jayco) decided to try and attack the thinning peloton. They were quickly joined by Nutrixxion Abus Rider, Alexander Gottfried, and the trio were able to join up with the breakaway out in front.
The days penultimate summit was yet another success for Swedish Anderssen, the breaks gap however, was all but shattered, and it was clear that the remaining 32, would be contesting the stage win themselves, so there was en expectation for fireworks on the final climb!
4km from the summit of the days final category, (4.8km at 9.7%) Two riders bearing an outside threat to the Jaune made an attack, Nutrixxion rider Dirk Muller, and Rudaskov (Itera-Katusha) are both 44" behind in GC, so a successful attack here could give them the race lead!
Certainly Concordia leader Stevenson sees an opportunity, and on the steepest part of the climb (15.8%!) he jumps away, to join the break 59" ahead of the peloton...
The front riders don't contest the final climb, rather keep a steady pace, which Stevenson is struggling to make the final part of the catch. Behind, a team mate less Huub Duyn is setting pace himself, trying to bring them all back together.
The strongest descenders Rudaskov and Stevenson lead the trio down the final descent to the finish town of Porrentruy, however, there is weight in numbers with the noses downhill, and the peloton are eating the gap with 8km to go!
5km to ride and the 20man peloton is back together, amazingly none of the favourites have been dropped today, and the stage racers are looking set to sprint for the win!
1000m... Muller(Nutrixion) leads followed by Retschke(EMI) meanwhile, Grajales and Dombrowski are coming strong behind them, and Duyn is sprinting strongly, if from a long way back!
Dombrowski makes it 2 from 2! He's showing real power in these middle days of the race, and looks powerful ahead of tomorrows TT. Duyn finishes the stage 3rd, whilst Muller hangs on in second place!
Sorry guys, the game crashed before the results, so I'll just have to keep you hanging before tomorrows TT! However, this is another opportunity to score big points, so good luck all!
Tomorrow is the final day before Rest Day 1. All you have to do, is pick the top5 for tomorrows TT stage. Any rider you select, who finishes inside the top 10, will score you 1 point. Any rider who is indeed in the Top5, scores 3 points, whilst anyrider you successfully place, will award 5points!
As well as this, if you can successfully select the wearer of the Maillot Jaune, after tomorrows stage, then you score an extra 5points!
Happy Voting all, the stage will be at 15:00 tomorrow, GMT so anyone who wants to get involved, be sure to fire in those votes!
And remember, just missing the first 2 doesn't count you out, no one has more than 5points, so you could bunny hop straight to the lead with some clever picking!

Let me guess, you've put either Anderssen or Backstedt on 1?

Uhm. Autocorrect is evil, and does that...
And some phones have a whole keyboard instead of just clicking the buttons like you have an old Nokia.
