The rule will most likely be changed. The UCI are pathetic, after all.
There is an argument to be had though, I mean, did this happen to Basso, Vino, even Ricco in his brief return?
I'm pretty sure that the rule didn't exist back then. Unless my memory mistakes me, it was brand new when Contador got suspended.
Thats my point though. Should have been more clear. He may feel they only brought in this rule because of him.

If i remember correct, the rule was made after he was suspended. So IF i remember correct, then imo the point should count

Doesn't really matter. They've almost certainly made enough signings to be there anyway

That's correct. And thus they are punishing retroactively which isn't allowed according to WADA rules.
If challenged, CAS will probably rule in favour of Saxo Bank and Contador. But as you know, CAS cases are usually quite slow, so not sure it'd actually benefit them. |

Vanendert focuses his season on this race and doesn't get picked? Holy hell

Particularly when Leukemans and Vandenberghe were picked over him!

And Vandendert was one of the most important riders in Gilbert's team last year.

Vanendert isn't happy about it.
That's quite a blow, he's an excellent rider. Maybe they judged him on his Tour, which wasn't that good. |

Given that Gilbert and Boonen got to both pick one helper each (Vandenbergh and De Weert) I would say that they also may have made it clear that 3 leaders would be too many. If not then I'm sure some sort of internal politics in the Belgian selector's panel is to blame.

If you leave Vanendert home because you have too many good riders, you have a luxury problem
But seriously, just take him along as a free agent, he can help if he doesn't have the legs or he can attack from further out or... It's not like he'll be in the way of Gilbert. |
