An indictment of how important this race is.
I turned on google talk and 2 people came to me asking "the olympic race is today? I just found this out"
To which I said "It is?"

You've found three people who don't think it's important. Excuse me whilst one million people watch from the roadside

It wasn't that the tickets were expensive. They were just massively, massively oversubscribed.
Still, my point stands. This race is important to a lot of people (not least the riders)

Here in Germany, no one shows the race..
ZDF shows an interview at the moment with the rowing Bundestrainer (they just showed the start of the cycling race and then rowing) and Eurosport shows from the start swimming
Isn't it a unwritten rule in cycling that at the olympics everyone rides for their national teams instead making up "Teams" like Lotto in the race?
Supposedly you ride for the colours that are on your back, but that's very theoretical.
Cycling is their job, so the question for the riders quickly becomes : "who pays me ?" When you know what each of them thinks about it, their apparently strange behaviours suddenly, but unfortunately, make sense.
Rogers attacks the GBR led field. So much for that theory.

I'm relieved what I described never happens then.
Just for your culture, even though I'm probably the one needing it. |

Why are the crowd kept so far back on the hill? makes it seem kind of empty.

Attacks by Nibali, Gilbert, Van Avermaet, Elmiger Gesink. This will be really hard for Cavendish and GB.

The British team with giant eggshells on their had and really ugly aero bikes, bright red Specialized bikes and the new Uvex helmet/sunglasses combo.
The ugliest peloton ever?

Chavanel moved (too late) behind.
I thought Gesink would never bridge those 10 or 20 m up.

Wish I could be watching it right now. Sounds like things are heating up. But I just don't think that the climb occurs close enough to the finish to be decisive.

Break with about ten guys. The break is listed in one or two pages before this. Time gaps is hard to say, since it's a really shitty production. But I guess it's about 4 or 5 minutes
