Im glad Valverde is riding the Tour again although he has been banned for 2 years its been 4 years since he rode the Tour becuase of the Italians effectively banning him out of a French race because it past through Italy.
Valverde is an attacking rider, I cant see why he cant challenge, I hope he does

Wouldn't he be more like Gilbert in last years Tour? Never seen Valverde race before (banned since I started watching) but I thought they were somewhat the same type of rider.

Valverde is the better climber. He was twice in the top 10 TdF in 2008 and 2009 I think.

I think he'll be troubled by 100+km TT. But he should be like a top-favourite on Planche.

His main problem, according to me, is his recovery. In the Tours I've seen him, he has always gone weaker in the second and third week. Remember Hautacam in the 2008 Tour? He blew up completely, losing six minutes.
Yes, he did win the Vuelta, but on the other hand that was one of the most boring Vueltas I've ever seen. None of the top GC riders won a stage, and Valverde won the race due to Evans' mechanical problem and big time loss on the Sierra Nevada stage.
So if you ask me, I'd say Valverde might crack a Top 10 at the Tour, maximum.

I think it works on some of the GB Sports kits, but is a major fail on most. Cycling being one of those.

Do you watch the same sport as I do? Valverde is the guy who sets his whole team in front as a sort of train on a climb. If they are tired down he waits for other contenders to make the pace. Then follows their wheels. And finally he sprints the last 200m.
The guy basically never attacks. He used to in the far past. But in his last years pre-suspension and in his races past-suspension he so far is the master of racing as conservatively as possible. IF he attacks, it's usually at 1km to go. But certainly not sooner. Valverde rather defends and waits for his sprint. I don't like his style one bit.
I'd prefer Evans over Valverde any day, and that says enough |

Aquarius I want to hear you condemn this strongly
Sorry, I had missed your message (bottom of the page, etc.).
Of course it's a disgrace. It's not like Longo has been suspicious to "cycling people" (for what that means) only since the whereabouts story.
Let's look at it frankly, the federation and authorities here had a very strong antidoping stance since 1998, but for a couple of years, they've opted for a more cynical approach. It's a shame.

I don't think it's lost. There's always been and there will always be cheaters.
Compared to 15 years ago, the number of riders who are performing above what's reasonable has decreased, just like the performances of the very best. I tend to think cycling is much cleaner nowadays than back then. There's still doping, especially among the very best, but with all the controls, it's become more complicated, and less efficient.
That decrease of the general performances combined with the recent leniency of the French authorities probably explains (together with a part of chance) why France is back to the third place of nations ranking according to CQ (which I find more relevant than UCI rankings). |

2008 results was easy explanation. He won Dauphine. |

Meanwhile, at the inzane clinic, UCI, they've decided to ban long socks, also known as compressionsocks, from triathlon. They also decided to ban the 'camelback', that Fränk Schleck used last year during a timetrial. Also banned, is some sort of device that was attached to the front fork, making it impossible for a wheel to fall of, if not tightened enough.
They also decided to ban shoe sleeves from any kind of track cycling.
All supposed to take effect April the 1st. And no, it's not a joke

I think you misunderstood a little. There isn't anything attached to the front fork. UCI forbade filing of lawyer tabs (the grooves that won't let the front wheel drop off unless the eccentric is screwed really loose) from the front fork.

I'm pretty sure they only banned wearing Camelbak's on your chest, and they must now be a certain size.
