Giro della Calabria - Stage 1
Melito – Cantazaro
With the Intermediate Sprint at the start, we decided to give it a go and Chavanel gets the job done.
The break formed very early on and didn’t consist of many big names. Michal Golas is our rider in the break. Two bigger names in this break were Agnoli ( Liquigas ) and Furlan (Christina Watches – Onfone )
With Golas in the break it was the job of Lampre and Idea to bring the break.
After many sprint points we finally get to the interesting part of this stage. With 4km to go Golas is leading the break, feeling very good not contesting the sprints too much. Pineau has done great job brining Chavanel up front and is now leading the peleton.
Golas is putting the hammer down and is breaking from the group. Chavanel is doing exactly the same job and breaking away from the peleton. This is looking really good so far. Both Golas and Chavanel have neutral daily form, so I am particularly happy so far.
Golas gets the gap and Chavanel gets past the remains of the break. We are under 1km banner, but Bertagnolli is chasing fast after us.
Golas out of nowhere found something in himself and is leading Chavanel out for the victory. What a ride from the Pole today!
Woohoo ! Sylvain Chavanel wins the first race of the season for the Omega Pharma team. Adding to that unbelievably, Golas finished seconds making it a great duo. What a stage for us. Bertagnolli was very fast at the end and gets 3rd. He will be our main GC threat here.

Team’s Reaction
What a day. The funny thing, that wasn’t technically the plan we had today. Golas went into the break randomly, to get few sprint points. We tought they would be caught much sooner, but with that effort, the ride of the day goes to him. Incredible ! Chavanel did great finishing the job, as did the whole team today.
Now we just going to focus on tomorrow and will try to keep that GC lead. We have our stage win, so our main job is keeping Chavanel’s lead safe.
P.S. Thank for the posts above, really appreciated. And we got our win Your magic has worked

What a season start for Omega-Pharma Quick-Step! The amount of wins is almost similar to the real Omega-Pharma-results It seems that - as you wrote in your report - Bertagnolli was 'very fat at the end'

Well, you were able to catch the break and take a win, congrats for that. Like I had said, it's very hard, but you've made it. |

Giro della Calabria - Stage 2
Soverato - Vibo Valentia
Stage 2 is another tough stage. Already at the start we have a tough patch of kilometres to climb. Then it’s downhill and time for escapes to gain some time before going to the final and deciding hill. Those in the elite group at the end of the hill will fight it out in the uphill sprint for the victory today.
GC Favourites
*** Bosisio, Chavanel, Bole
** Niemiec, Brajkovic, Bertagnolli
* Pineau, Szmyd, Sella, Trofimov
Team Objective
The plan is simple today. We don’t need to win, we just have to keep the peleton together trough the stage and then we need Chavanel to lead the pack and let no one escape. Sounds easy enough, but it’s defiantly going to prove a challenge. Especially here with many Italians, wanting to win in their home country.
Keep the GC lead

Bosisio looks like a canidate for victory, but he doesn't have nearly as strong a team as OM-QST. Brajkovic could be dangerous.

@dienblad - He definitely should. Thanks
@Eden95 - Indeed. Very unpredictable race though. Let's see what happens.
Race report coming later from Calabria
Levi Leipheimer
We have found common agreement with Levi Leipheimer. His contract will be extended by another year.
Dries Devenyns
We have found common agreement with Dies Deveyns. His contract will be extended by another year.
Guillaume Van Keirsbulck
We have found common agreement with Guillaume Van Keirsbulck. His contract will be extended by two years.
We are happy those three signed new contracts. Later in the season we will inform you who didn't quite make a cut into our team in the next season.
BTW, it looks like my story signals there is malware when you go to the story. I can say it's false positive, so now worries about that guys It'll be hopefully fixed soon

seeing those contract agreements, i know its early season, but would you consider buying another young Czech talent Leopold König, currently at NetApp, he seems to be another climbing star after Roman Kreuziger, and i think he would fit perfectly into the team and it would also be realistic transfer considering Czech businessman Bakala is 80% owner ... just if you want to make me happy in the next season |
