Well now I know I how to get comments. Complain about not getting any.
Thanks so much everyone for all your comments!
@Alakagom Thank you bro. MSR will be up very, very soon, and I can tell you now it was a good result!
@sutty You have been really great man, thanks a lot!
@Pellizotti Don't worry I'm not near quitting, just complained to milk you all for juicy comments! Joking obviously, but thanks so much to everyone anyway!
Known around the world by many as the most prestigious Monument of the calendar, the Milano - Sanremo is a one-day stage race that can be won by almost anyone.
Last season's race was won by our very own Matthew Goss, who was riding for HTC - Highroad. Although Mark Cavendish was the HTC leader for the race, Goss joined an elite break with names like Cancellara and Gilbert and sprinted his way to the first Australian MSR victory!
The Result
This years editon was one of the more exciting races in years. A strong break formed early in the race and held on until the Poggio climb, where they were caught. This lead to the attack from Phillipe Gilbert, Fabian Cancellara, Simon Gerrans and Sylvain Chavanel.
A group like this would almost always get away in any other race, but not here. A vicious Stuart O'Grady hunted each rider down, and led the depleted peloton into the final kms. And the great news was, after being protected by Mitchell Docker all day, Matt Goss was lead out by a fit (+5) Allan Davis all the way to the line! He defends his title!

What an awesome race to watch on TV! Hearing Phil Ligget shout Matthew's name was awesome to hear in the pub we were all watching the race in! He looked ecstatic as did the whole team after the race, so he must be in a good place. There is no denying he is one of the world's best right now.
Great win, MSR is arguably on of the 3 hardest races to win on PCM, so that's a great result. It was also great idea to attack with Gerrans at that point, as the peleton is always going to chase harder when you have a rider in break than none. Well done
It was in fact a great win. My first PCM Monument would you believe!
Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Preview
This race is the biggest stage race in Spain, behind of course the Vuelta. A deceiving course, which despite looking quite hilly, only has a few stages which will create large gaps. Stage 1 is has a few small hills near the end so may cause selection, as is the case for stage 5. Stage 3 is the queen stage though, with the first European MTF of the season.

After a succesful Paris-Nice, Pieter Weening carries some great form to get a good result. I have to say, the startlist here is slightly stronger than in France, but we still hope for a top-15 for Pieter. Allan Davis has good form, and will go for a stage win, since the sprinting faction of the startlist is really quite weak. I will act as a pure domestique for Pieter, but hopefully I don't lose too much time and can get a good result in the U25's.
43 riders in the peloton with MSR?
I always set the pace so high only the riders with flat stats above 77 can keep up
So then you have a group o 20 riders left...
@all Thanks guys! I was really happy with the win, and this race should hopefully bring us more success. Here's stage 1!
Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Stage 1
Danny's Plan
The race begins here in Lloret De Mar, with a route around the town. The first climb will tire out the peloton and cause some gaps, while the following hills will be the final blows. Top favourites need to look out.
I will work as a domestique today, doing what I have to do. Pieter will look not to lose any time and stick to the front.
Race Report
No real break got free, but there was one lone rider ahead as we headed up the first climb. It was Miguel Rubiano (Androni).
Over the climb I was comfortably in the peloton, as was most of the team. Roman Kreuziger was at the front working for Astana leader Vinokourov.
A 6-man break was out ahead, but with no real notable names.
Into the steeper hills now, and Euskatel and Astana are working very hard at the front. Weening was feeling good.
One certain hill really ripped apart the peloton, and the only GE rider left was Pieter.
And now with most of the break captured, Alexandre Vinokourov attacked! This caused many to follow, but Weening stayed put.
Soon one of the following groups joined in the peloton, and Daryl Impey sped up to the front to help out in the chase. By the end he was exhausted and fell back again, but the attackers were caught.
There were now only two escapees left at the front, being Manuele Mori (Lampre) and Gianni Meersman (Lotto). They had a decent gap and would most likely hold on.
Despite more chasing, three riders once again attacked, lead by Vino. Hesjedal (Garmin) and Lastras (Movistar) were the other two.
And at the finish line it's Manuel Mori winning! He will wear the leader shirt tomorrow!
But the attackers were caught, and Pieter rolls in with the same time as all the favourites. A 1'14" gap to the break.
And I sprint over 6'22" behind. Not too bad for me, but I expected slightly better.
