Stage 2:
A strong BOTD is formed, with Kurt-Asle Arvesen (Sky), Alexej Saramotins (Cofifids), Jesse Sergent (Radioshack), Ricardo van de Velde (Doncker's) and Koen de Kort (Skil). Becauze of it's strength, we put Tom Dumoulin and Romain Zingle on the front of the peloton to keep up the pace. This way, the gap doesn't get bigger then 3'30.
De Kort is the last of the break who gets caught. With 5km our train is formed, but it gets closed in by the CCC-train. They want to bring yesterday's winner Smolen a 2nd victory.
Under the flamme rouge, Reinier Honig is in the lead. The Monster riders (Ligthart-Vermeltfoort-Bos) don't go fast enough. As you can see, Smolen (yellow jersey) is still way back.
But how does this happen? What an amazing jump by the Polish rider. He passes everyone and can easily cruise over the finish line, celebrating his 2nd victory in Drenthe! Theo Bos is our best placed rider in 8th place.

KOTM:
Great job by Wilco Kelderman, who wins the KOTM-rankings!
U25:
A second jersey for Monster Energy - Ford: Coen Vermeltfoort wins the U25-rankings. All he did was getting 3rd in one Intermediate sprint.
The Netherlands only World Tour classic is the Amstel Gold Race. A though race in the south of the Netherlands (province Limburg) with so many turns and climbs, that you'll get dizzy of it!. Last years race was won by Philippe Gilbert.
Favourites:
*** Philippe Gilbert, Damiano Cunego, Joaquim Rodriguez
** Ryder Hesjedal, Samuel Sanchez, Simon Gerrans
* Peter Sagan, Alexandre Vinokourov, Sylvain Chavanel, Edvald Boasson Hagen.
After some fruitless attempts to form a breakaway, a 12-man group succeeded in it. The BOTD consisted e.g. Jelle Vanendert (Monster), Martin Pedersen (Leopard), Heinrich Haussler (Garmin), Kevin de Weert (Quick Step) and Sylvester Szmyd (Liqiugas). When they climb the Cauberg for the first time, the lead is almost 8 minutes.
With 70km to go, they climb the Cauberg for the 2nd time. The lead is still over 5 minutes. Lampre and Kathusha are controlling the pace of the peloton.
30km to go, and only Pedersen and Vanendert are the only breakaway's up front. They are joined by Rabobank's Carlos Barredo.
Then from behind comes some Norwegian thunder, it's Edvald Boasson Hagen who takes the lead. Still 28km to go.
Oh my, what's this? Philippe Gilbert has lost contact at the Eyserbosweg, only 18km to go. He's 30 second sbehind a 19-man group. In that group, Peter Sagan is the only Monster Energy-rider. Wout Poels tries to reach them together with Gilbert.
The opponents hear that Gilbert is behind, but closing the gap. So Simon Gerrans, last year's number 3, attacks at the very steep Keutenberg, 12km to go.
But the group, including Gilbert, comes back together in the descent to Valkenburg. When they start the climb of the Cauberg, Bjorn Leukemans (Vacansoleil) and Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin, last year's nr. 2) try to surprise the others with an early jump.
But there comes someone in pink and blue who blasts them all away! Damiano Cunego rides like a rocket up the Cauberg with gradients up to 10% and takes the win! Joaquim Rodriguez gets 2nd place, 13 seconds behind Cunego, with Gilbert getting 3rd.
And Peter Sagan? Well, although he is a good sprinter and puncheur and he had energy left, he couldn't sprint uphill and finished in 16th. Was it the narrow roads, was it his legs, was it the DS-skills in an uphill sprint. or was it a games-bug?

Thanks for your support. Really appreciate it.
And because of the rainy weather, prpbably more reports today (wanted to go for a bike ride myself, but don't like cycling in the rain, 'cause I have to clean the bike then :cool
The preparation for the Giro d'Italia begins! We take part in the Giro del Trentino, a 4-stage races with lots of climbing. Robert Gesink will make his first appearance in the season. Last year's winner Michele Scarponi isn't here, he rides the Ardennes classics instead. But the competition is very strongourite , with Stefano Garzelli, Domenico Pozzovivo and the favourite to win this race Vincenzo Nibali!
Joost Posthuma sets the best time as an early start. Nout unexpected, he is in a great shape: 18'09.
Young gun Tom Dumoulin loses 43 seconds and finishes in 14th place. Not bad, considering he chose a nt very smart shortcut in the last corner (, oops small bug in the race).
Marc de Maar sets the best split time, 4 seconds faster than Posthuma. But then he sees some good looking Italian woman on the side of the road, and pulls the breaks to get her phone number (well, I can tell you, that he won't sleep in the same hotel as us later that night ) and lost over a minute the second part.
The first of the GC-contenders to start is Lampre's Andrey Kashechkin. He loses 30 seconds to Posthuma, 5th overall.
Good old Stefano Garzelli rides a great ITT. The Aqua & Sapone-rider finishes 22 seconds behind Posthuma.
Domenico Pozzovivo (Colnago) is a bad timetrialler and loses 59 seconds. Robert Gesink does way better in the first 13 kilometres of his season. 8th place, 36 seconds behind Posthuma.
The last rider to start is Vincenzo Nibali. The Liquigas star sets the best split time, 4 seconds faster than Posthuma. The nail-biting Dutchmen almost can't stand the suspense, but can cheer when Nibali crosses the line: 9 seconds slower and 2nd place.
A great victory for Posthuma, the 2nd for him this season!

La Fleche Wallonne, a 198km race starting in Charleroi and finishing on top of the terrible Mur de Huy. A race that suits the puncheurs and the explosive climbers. Last years winner wasn't really one those two, but the rainbow jersey gave Cadel Evans that axtra that he needed to win:
Favourites:
*** Philippe Gilbert, Damiano Cunego, Joaquim Rodriguez
** Frank Schlek, Simon Gerrans, Rigoberto Uran
* Peter Sagan, Jelle Vanendert, Samuel Sanchez, Ryder Hesjedal
10 man ride away from the peloton and get a maximum lead of 5'30. The group is pretty strong: Saramotins (Cofidis), Zandio (Sky), Gustov (Saxo), Minard (AG2R), Samoilau (Movistar), Anza (Vacansoleil), Schmitz (Veranda), Lequatre (Radioshack), Moinard (BMC) and Francis de Greef (Monster).
Out of the peloton, Kevin Seeldrayers (Quickstep) shows some great piece of work, riding to the BOTD on his own! WIth 66km to go, there are 11 leaders now.
With 30km to go, the peloton has climbed the Mur de Huy for the 2nd time. The gap to the leaders is still 2'30.
12km to go, and only 2 leaders remaining: Aleksejs Saramotins and Kevin Seeldraeyers. The peloton is 1'24 back, with the 9 former-breakaways still in between.
At the Cote d'Ereffe, with 10km to go, Philippe Gilbert attacks out of the peloton, and is foloowed by Joaquim Rodriguez!
Leopard and Monster work hard to catch the 2 and succeed in it. Meanwhile, Seeldraeyers has reached the foot of the last climb, the Mur de Huy (3rd passage).
About 1.5km long, with gradients up to 17%. That makes it a real monster!
In the peloton, Gilbert is the first to make the jump. Sagan can't follow that one, but sets a high pace. With 500m to go, Seeldraeyers still leads by 40 seconds!
And he stays up front! What no one would have thought, happens! A great ride by the young Belgian. For sure the biggest win in his career!
Gilbert takes the 2nd place, 32 seconds behind.
And in 3rd place comes............... Peter Sagan!!! Oh yes, what a great effort! He outsprinted riders as Rodriguez and Frank Schleck.

Sagan makes our sponsprs very happy, because he reached a sponsor goal. Also the 10th place of Vanendert is worth to mention: an excellent result! But this guy surprised everyone today!
2nd stage from Dro to Ledro Bezzecca, 184km with only 1 KOTM-sprint but a non-cetgorized 13km climb with an average gradient of 13.4% to the finish. The last 5km are flat.
A small group gets away and reaches the KOTM-sprint before the peloton. Alessandro Bisolti (Farnes) wins it, in front of Rubens Bertogliati (Team Type 1) and Fortunato Baliani (D'Angelo).
Just before the peloton catches them, Lampre's Daniele Pietropolli goes on an adevnture all alone. He wins the Intermediate sprint and gets a maximum lead of 6 minutes.
17 km to go. He has just started the final climb of the day, the Ledro Molina, and his lead is stiull 4'30. It looks like he's gonna win it!
In the peloton, Liquigas (for Nibali) and Monster Energy (for Posthuma and Gesink) are making the pace.
With 10km left (and 5 of them climbing), Stefano Garzeli attacks from the peloton. In the peloton, no one really reacts and the pace is being kept high.
Pietropolli wins a great race, and takes the leader jersey.
Garzelli finishes in 2nd place, 1'14 back. Nibali wins the sprint for place 3 (and gets the same time as Garzelli). Gesink finishes in a great 4th place (his 2nd race this year!!). Also Joost Posthuma (9th) and WIlco Keldeman (14th) are in this group.

3rd stage, 170km from Molina di Ledra to the summit of the Fai della Paganella (9.5km with an average gradient of 7.5%), which has to be climbed twice!
The BOTD is catched before the summit of the first climb of the Fai della Paganella. Robert Gesink gets the most points. The group is only 12 riders big: with Wilco Kelderman (Monster), Pozzovivo (Colnago), Nibali & Bellotti (Liquigas), Garzelli & Codol (Aqua & Sapone), Pietropolli, Kashechkin & Ulissi (Lampre), Rebellin (Miche) and Kiserlovski (Astana)
Kelderman does great work in the last climb, keeping the pace up high together with Gesink. More and more riders lose contact.
With less than 2km to go, Kelderman starts to fade. But he has done great work! Only 6 riders remain in the front: Kelderman, Gesink, Garzelli, Nibali, Kiserlovski and Pietropolli. 1700 metres to go, and Gesink launches an attack. He immediately creates a gap!
Nibali has a strong punch to the line, but it isn't enough. Gesink is extremely happy with this win, that shows that his hard work in training pays off!
Nibali finishes 15 seconds behind, Garzelli 26 and Pietropolli 41. Kelderman beats Kiserlovski in the sprint for place 5, what a great result for him!!

All things are open for the GC: Nibali leading Pietropolli by only 2 seconds, then Gesink 12 seconds back and Garzelli only 24!! Kelderman looks great in 6th place.
KOTM:
1 Robert Gesink MONSTER ENERGY - FORD 32
2 Vincenzo Nibali Liquigas - Cannondale 20
3 Dimitry Ignatiev Itera - Katusha 16
4 Daniele Pietropolli Lampre - ISD 12 5 Wilco Kelderman MONSTER ENERGY - FORD 12
4th and final stage from Andano to Madonna di Campiglio, 161.5km with a mountain top finish.
Last climb to Madonna di Campiglio, 11.5km (5.4%):
A small group gets away, really not worth to mention. Then at the summit of the 2nd mountain, the Passo del Duron, Joost Posthuma crashes while putting a newspaper under his shirt... Luckily, he could continue his ride, but loses over 8 minutes in this stage!
We've started the ascend to Madonna di Campiglio and the breakaways have been caught. Robert Kiserlovski, nr. 5 in the GC, had a fruitless attempt. Then GC-leader Vincenzo Nibali looks at his opponents and accelerates with 6km left.
Robert Gesink and Wilco Kelderman keep the pace high, and Nibali gets caught. Then it's up to GC's number 4 Stefano Garzelli with 5km to go.
Nibali counterattacks and flies past Garzelli. And Gesink? Well, he rides with high pace, catches up Garzelli and the 2 are with 3km to go 12 seconds behind Nibali, but are coming closer. The others have lost contact and can fight for place 4.
Under the flamme rouge, Gesink is at the backwheel of Nibali again, waiting to start the sprint. Garzelli is struggling to hold on.
Nibali is the first to start the sprint, but Gesink's legs are more fresh and easily passes the Sicilian to take his second stage win in the Giro del Trentino! Garzelli finishes in 3th, 14 seconds behind. Unfortunately, Gesink couldn't create a gap big enough to Nibali to win some time back, so already knows that he won't win the GC.
Kiserlovski is the best of the rest at 1'01. Behind him, Kelderman surprises everybody again, with another 5th at 1'10!
So Gesink can go to the podiu for some well deserved kisses!

A word from the DS: A very succesful Giro del Trentino, with 3 stage wins, 2nd and 6th in the GC, the win in the KOTM-, U25- and teams-ranking. We knew that it would be difficult to shake of Nibali in the last climb of stage 4. The lower gradients suited him more than Gesink, who favoured the more steep climb in stage 3. So we are happy with the result, but also very happy with the team performance. This is a big part of the team that will ride the Giro D'Italia. Gesink has proofed himself that he is a GC-contender there, and that he will get some great support by De Maar, Posthuma and especially young Wilco Kelderman!!

@ flash127: While playing the stage, I do a lot at 8x speed, paying very good attention to what happens, and at the important parts at 1-2x. And I figured out how to use paint.net quickly to convert the screenshots and upload them.
@baia: Thanks, think I'm gonna try the sae tactic in the last stage, although that mountain finish isn't that difficult as in the 3rd stage.
Some other news:
- Laurent Didier has refused an offer to renew his contract. Rumours say he will sign with Orbea, to be their leader.
- Also Wilco Kelderman has refused an offer. After the Giro del Trentino we really want to keep him, as we see a great GC-rider in him. So we'll try again, and again, and again!

Hopefully you can keep Kelderman he looks good.
Some great results with both Gesink and Keldermann in the Trentino keep up the good work
Thanks a lot. I've offered Kelderman a contract as a young talent, when he refuses this for the 3rd time, I'll try it with a luxury team mate or protected rider. Really want to keep him. He's only 20 or 22, and has 72 in mo, 70 hi (or I switched them) and 69 in TT with 4 stars left for each of them!

4 stars for the developtment. He'll have a nice one.
I think I never left my comment here - now I have - you have a great story and nice reports!
@FreitasPCM: Thanks for your comments, this is what keeps my going (wel, of course that I like doing it). And you're right about the development-stars.
The last of the 3 Ardennes-classics is Liege-Bastogne-Liege. The route of La Doyenne is 261km long and consists a lot of steep climbs, with famous names as La Redoute, La Roche aux Faucons and the last one Saint-Nicolas.
The finish in 2010 was controversial: Alexandre Vinokourov showed his powers and really deserved the win, although the (mostly) Belgian public shouted at him, because of his doped history.
Our team:
Oops, no screenshot...
But the same as in AGR and FW: Sagan, A. Schleck, Vanendert, De Gendt, Poels, Ruijgh, De Greef and Ligthart.
Favourites:
*** Philippe Gilbert, Damiano Cunego, Joaquim Rodriquez
** Peter Sagan, Simon Gerrans, Alexandre Vinokourov
* Ryder Hesjedal, Frank Schleck, etc.
A break gets away, with a maximum lead of 9 minutes. At the Cote du Rosier, only one of them remains up front: Alberto Contador! But his leads gets smaller and smaller, and while climbing the Roche aux Faucons, it's only 2'43.
When the peloton (well, if yu can a group of 40 riders a peloton...) climbs the Roche aux Faucons, it's Kathusha's Joaquim Rodriquez who is the first to attack. Philippe Gilbert and Edvald Boasson Hagen are the first ones to counterattack. Sagan has some difficulties of getting a free passage and gets blocked several times, while being passed by many others ( )
After the Cote de Sprimont 5 man catch Contador, and they have a small lead to the rest: Cadel Evans, Joaquim Rodriguez, Damiano Cunego, Philippe Gilbert and Ryder Hesjedal. But the others (15 cyclists) are approaching, among them Peter Sagan and Jelle Vanendert.
At the foot of the Cote de Saint-Nicolas, 20 man come together and Sagan and Vanendert take the lead. They do this, because they have lost already a lot of energy and try to ride in their own pace. A nice tactic, but when halfway up the climb, Rodriguez attacks again, they can't follow. Only Evans, Cunego and Hesjedal can follow the BMC-rider. Philippe Gilbert is 30 seconds behind with 3km to go.
But the home-rider has tricked his opponents. In the last climbing kilometre to Ans, he flies past the 4 leaders and is finally looking to win his homerace!
And he makes it! After 2nd places in the Amstel Gold Race and the Fleche Wallonne, Gilbert shows his colleagues that only he is the king of the Ardennes!! Rodriguez gets a 2nd place, 14 seconds behind. Maybe he deserved more because of his attractive cycling. Cadel Evans takes place 3.
And Vanendert and Sagan? Jelle Vanendert loses the sprint for 10th place and finishes as the number 13. Peter Sagan surely has lost too much energy in regaining his place at the front all the time, and has to settle with place 17.
Meanwhile, an extremely happy Gilbert can go to the awards ceremony, and can wave at his familiy and friends!

The winner:
Reaction from the DS: The team did some great work for Vanendert and Schleck, but unfortunately we couldn't take part in the race for the win. What went wrong? I think that Vanendert fulfilled the expectations. A 13th place is great for him, and when he gets older, he can for sure improve. Sagan had some bad luck with getting blocked at the important moments (La Redoute, Roche aux faucons), but he has to learn from this. Riders as Gilbert and Rodriguez handle these things better. But Peter is also very young, I'm sure that next year the results are better!
