Team HTC-HIGHROAD - February 2011
Batista15
Hey guys, I´ve got the final match yesterday with my team because of that there were no updates yesterday. Hopefully, I´ll be able to post some today but it´s still hard for me after I made the final mistakes yesterday which avoided our promotion Sad

@baia, hehe nice one Grin But it wasn´t that crazy, I´m feeling much better right now what means I´m back Wink Sorry for the boring last days with HTC.

Before we´re meeting the mountains in Oman, we´re still have to race another flat stage for the sprinters. Eisel got two Top 5 results so far while Renshaw is still searching for a better shape. Hushovd, Ventoso and Allan Davis might be the biggest favourites as they are in a pretty good shape the last 2 weeks.

The favourites:

+++ Ventoso, Davis, Hushovd
++ Eisel, Casper, Modolo
+ Renshaw, Traksel, Galdos

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0016-2.jpg
The final 15 kilometres we´re quite hard today as the pack set a high pace, bringing the pack with Patrick Gretsch back. Pity, the young German wasn´t able to stay in front. But that was no big problem for our team as we´re still ready for the sprint. Our train was by far the quickest on the last 8 kilometres with Bak and Grabsch.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0017-1.jpg
4 kilometres to go and it looked perfect for us today. Bak was the last pace maker before the final sprint began.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0018-2.jpg
The whole work was probably not good enough because our sprinter duo Eisel and Renshaw was just too slow while the pack, with all the other favourites like Davis and Ventoso, coming really fast.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0020-3.jpg
No chance for Highroad today. We were just too weak in the final moment. Davis took his second stage win here in front of Hushovd and Casper. Robert Hayles finished on the 4th position which was a big surprise for everyone, nice sprint by him. Ventoso only sprinted on the 15th position, Bernie Eisel finished as 11th.

Finally we did it to stage 4 after some flat stages. Today´s stage and the time trial tomorrow will be the decision in this Tour of Oman. The first 150 kilometres today might be not that interesting as they´re almost flat. Just the last climb is a pretty one for the whole overall competition. The climb is not that easy with a strong increase the last kilometres. Our leader Siutsou is in a great shape and I´m sure he can do well there.

The favourites:

+++ Brushegin, Siutsou
++ Lastras, Pasamontes, Ardila
+ Danielson, Vande Velde, Tiralongo

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0002-4.jpg
The first real action came by De Waele and Lastras within the last 6 kilometres. Also Allan Davis was far in front, trying to defend his overall leading. Siutsou was still in the pack with Bak on his side.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0003-6.jpg
Lastras and De Waele were caught quickly while Davis completely dropped back. With only 1500 metres to go it was our captain Siutsou, starting an attack. That one was pretty strong but he wasn´t alone with this move. Bruseghin came fast from behind.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0004-7.jpg
The final sprint began and Siutsou was still in front while Bruseghin and some other overall favourites like Hivert, Sutherland, Pasamontes and Ardila came with more speed.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0005-6.jpg
And it was again Movistar. First in Mallorca now in the desert. Bruseghin is the one taking the stage and the overall lead by Davis who lost over 2 minutes in the end. Siutsou takes the second in front of Hivert. Very strong race by HTC and especially Siutsou today.

No luck in the sprints just yet, but Siutsou was really strong today. Will be very exciting Time Trial as you and Brushegin are on similar TT level. Good luck ! Smile

Close to a win.. but still a nice 2nd! The TT will be interesting, like Alakagom said. Hope for better luck for HTC this time Smile

Thank you guys. Indeed, it was a great stage for us with a nice overall position. Looking forward to the time trial later. Will post it in the evening Wink

The overall win is still possible for us with today´s time trial about 1 kilometres. Siutsou is one of the best time trialists in the pack but his main rival Bruseghin, too. We might be able to pass Hushovd today but the overall win is way harder.

The favourites:

+++ Millar
++ Gutierrez, Bruseghin, Siutsou
+ Grabsch, Bak, Vande Velde

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0008-6.jpg
There were some big hopes for our team today, one of them was Bert Grabsch. The former World Champion set a nice time today but is it enough to take the win? 30´21

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0009-3.jpg
He was followed by his team mate Lars Ytting Bak who was even faster. What an amazing time by Bak, beating Grabsch by 14 seconds! 30´07

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0011-5.jpg
The biggest favourite for the stage win was David Millar. The time trial specialist was hard to beat today. He´s another 6 seconds faster than Bak. This might be hardest time to beat today. 30´01

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0013-5.jpg
Ivan Gutierrez was the next rider, setting a great time. Unfortunately another fast rider, beating Bak but he missed Millar´s time by only 3 seconds. 30´04

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0022-2.jpg
Then it was up to Siutsou. Our team catpain was in a good day shape but is he strong enough to beat Millar´s time? Well, he is...he completely destroyed David´s ride by 13 seconds! New best time for HTC and now it´s up to Hushovd and Bruseghin. 29´48

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0023-2.jpg
Thor Hushovd was fast but not fast enough for Siutsou. He had no chance today but he still got a very good time with 25 seconds to Siutsou. 30´13

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0024-2.jpg
So after that one, we already knew , the second place is ours. Marzio Bruseghin was on the track and his first times were not that bad. Only a few seconds behind Siutsou. But in the end he was faster than our leader and took the stage and probably the overall win. 29´45

Last stage in Oman today after some crazy days for HTC-HIGHROAD. The sprint results were just terrible so far but with two great stages by Siutou we´re still happy with that Tour. We´re not expecting a good result in today´s flat stage as Renshaw isn´t in shape and Eisel seems just to weak against Davis&Co.

The favourites:

+++ Davis
++ Ventoso, Hushovd
+ Casper, Veelers, Renshaw

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0026-3.jpg
Siutsou went for the only KoM competition of today´s stage and he took the 6 points. Unofortunately we didn´t win this jersey as Bruseghin also had 20 points but still a nice move by him.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0027-2.jpg
The sprint trains were built again and as always our team was in a quite good position. This time it was Eisel, leading out Renshaw. On the left came Garmin with Hushovd and of course right next to us Allan Davis with his team mates.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0028-1.jpg
What a strange situation as our sprint preperation was good but when the sprint began, Mark Renshaw had no chance to accelerate. Hushovd was the strongest in this moment after he made his final move with Ventoso trying to follow him.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0029-1.jpg
Movistar, Movistar and again Movistar. They´re performing so great these days. This time their sprinter Ventoso takes the stage win in front of Hushovd and Casper. Renshaw came in on the 13th position.
