From France to Spain and another hilly classic, this time in it’s the name of one of greatest climbers the sport has seen Miguel Indurain. The favourite here is Samuel Sanzhez.

A large break today but one team was to stamp their authority on the day and this was to be Euskaltel as they chased down the break.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0008-10.jpg

A split was to occurred from the pressure of Euskaltel on the front, the winner will come from this group of 42 riders.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0009-13.jpg

With no sign of Euskaltel or Sanchez doing anything apart from pace setting, Voeckler decides to attack.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0010-10.jpg

An incisive attack from Voeckler was enough to give him his 10th win of the season so far.

Great wins with Voeckler again Wink

Voeckler is truly dominating. Amazing win in France and Spain. Hope he didn't peak too early for Ardennes though, if not he'll be a force.

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

Stage 1

Today we are in Spain for the Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco, some of the biggest names in cycling are here with Alberto Contador and the super strong puncheur on the Basque Team Euskaltel Samuel Sanchez.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0001-31.jpg

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0002-24.jpg

A break of 3 developed, they were Capecchi, Herrada and Gautier.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0004-27.jpg

3 riders behind are chasing very hard but all in vain as the 3 out front pull further clear.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0005-17.jpg

Navardauskas is a minute further back.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0007-15.jpg

A split in the group on the steep climbs, it looks like all the main favourites are in this 31 rider group.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0008-11.jpg

A big attack by Alberto Contador, but he doesn’t last long before being reeled back in.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0010-11.jpg

With Capecchi dropped, it was left between Herrada and Gautier for victory, Gautier having the better sprint takes the win. Europcar’s season just gets better!

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

Stage 2

Today Cyril Gautier will hope he can keep hold of his leaders jersey, it will be very difficult with the talent on show here.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0011-9.jpg

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0012-8.jpg

Today’s break was a large group, the peleton unlike on stage 1 kept the pace high enough to control the race and keep the break at a fair distance.
i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0014-5.jpg

With the break swept up, on the final climb, the pressure begins on the front, were Voeckler, Sanchez, Rodrigues and Vinokourov put the pressure on the rest of the main favourites.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0015-4.jpg

Voeckler, Sanchez and Rodrigues got a gap and it will be out of them 3 to contest the win, Voeckler showed his form to take the stage win.
