Team Apple-Powerade - 2012
valverde321
I think you should replace him. I assume Cancellara will be going so instead of Gilbert you could have Kittel or Roche, although I dont know if either are riding for sure, or not at all. Roche would be good as he can still get away on the hills, and he's got a good sprint too, if he goes away off the Pogio in a small group.

Kittel could go to gain experience, and maybe even help out with the sprints.

Thanks for posting Wink

With the form Kittel's in atm, I think he'd get dropped on the Turchino!
Anyway, Roche is definitely an option but he hasn't done a lot of riding so far this season so he probably won't make it to the end. Nevertheless, that's one vote for Roche. Banana

ps. here's the provisional team if you weren't sure
Fabian Cancellara SUI
Edvald Boasson Hagen NOR
Steve Cummings GBR
Philippe Gilbert BEL
Peter Kennaugh GBR
Luis Leon Sanchez ESP
Ben Swift GBR
Geraint Thomas GBR

Paris - Nice Stage 8

Nice - Nice
i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0001-16.jpg

Favourites: Contador, Martin, Taaramae

The final stage with the traditional Col d'Eze at the end. This will be a tough stage, can Brad hold on to 2nd?

Today is the last day and so you might as well try as hard as you can. That is why Cummings got in the BOTD with 7 others.

These 8 riders were soon joined by 2 more. Longo Borghini who had already clinched his polka dot jersey by now and Pim Ligthart.
i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0002-15.jpg

As the stage was short, the pace was high from the start and huge gaps appeared in the peloton. Here, McEwen, Chicchi (having a drink) and Alan Perez sit in between the two groups.

Yet again, the stage was affected by rain and, yet again, there were loads of crashes. Voeckler crashes and can't get back to his bike. That Katusha rider really looks like he wants to run him down. Not friends?

The biggest name to crash was Menchov (Garmin), he lost time and places by the end of the day. The heaviest of the day's crashes was Larsson (Saxo Bank) who fractured his hip and will be out until mid-May. A huge blow in what will be his final season as a pro.

On La Turbie, with the gap between the break and the peloton at 4 minutes, Chavanel gave it one last go to get a stage win in front of his adoring fans. He made the bridge by the bottom of the Col d'Eze with some great descending.
i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0006-19.jpg

As you would expect, it was every man for himself on the final climb of the tour. The only people that made any sort of gap though were Pauriol, Contador and Nieve and these riders joined Chavanel over the top.

1st Mikel Nieve (Euskaltel)
2nd Rémi Pauriol (Quickstep)
3rd Sylvain Chavanel (Apple - Powerade)

Sprint Result 2
Spoiler
1st Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank)
2nd Mikel Nieve (Euskaltel)
3rd Rémi Pauriol (Quickstep)

On the final descent, Sylvain gave it everything, but he just had no energy left to compete with the fresher riders. Pauriol tried to get away on the descent... and succeeded, at least making sure that the French won the stage.

Contador took second to extend his lead even further. This man is in some seriously untouchable form at the moment, whilst Wiggins, Thomas, Cummings and Boasson Hagen all came in in the leading group as Brad held on to a magnificent 2nd on GC.

And, finally, we also won the teams classification. A great Paris-Nice for the team, and, in my opinion, the only negative was the poor form and fitness of Gilbert which caused him to pull out yesterday. Anyway, the season is in full swing now and I'm off to Milan for what we hope will be a very special day for the team at the first major of the season. Don't forget to keep following my colleague's reports on Tirreno-Adriatico though, as that race looks like it's just hotting up.

As you will know if you have read the goings-on at Paris-Nice, the great Philippe Gilbert is carrying a bit of an injury and is not in great shape.

His season is obviously based around April and is just round the corner. So, I have a question for you (just to have a bit of interaction, you know Pfft).

Philippe is in the provisional squad for the Milan-San Remo. Do you want to:

a) Keep him in there as he could still be very useful, or
b) Give him a rest and replace him with someone else (if so, and you know my squad well enough, feel free to pick a replacement for me Wink)

This may seem weird, but if you are following the team, why shouldn't you be involved? Like some sort of assistant manager. Smile

Thanks.

ps. Bear in mind that if you're the only one that comments, your decision will be final. Cool

I think Gilbert should have a rest , as a replacement , i think Chavanel is a good one , he is not bad on hill but he is a very good descender and he knows how to ride on flat sections. He could do something on the poggio. However , he hasn't done much on P-N , he doesn't seem to be in great shape ? My French vote goes to Chavanel anyway Smile

@owks

Thanks for posting!

No, Chavanel's in decent shape. He's just been giving everything to help Brad, so he's not able to do anything himself. I shall put your vote in for Sylvain. Smile

@everyone

Having a few problems at the moment, regarding the new patch and the expansion pack and jerseys going missing and the game crashing etc...

Just another day in the life of a regular PCM'er Rolling Eyes

Hopefully be able to finish Paris-Nice tonight.

Right, so I've finished Paris-Nice. Check post a bit above ^.

I had to reinstall the game cos it all went tits up, but I have a problem. I can't get my transferts back and I have no idea where they are, same with the team logos. They've gone back to the default ones. Any idea?

OK, so I was going to do the last 3 stages of the T-A but reinstallation seems to have deleted the Queen Stage!!?!?!?

So what I will do, just this once is just give you a brief summary of the last couple of stages and move on from this...

This experience has changed me...

Tirreno - Adriatico Stage 6

A surprising result with a fairly large group all climbing the final hill together. Pozzato beat Schleck in the sprint, proving even more the great form he is in at the moment. Sanchez got a decent 11th whilst Cancellara, Grivko and Kennaugh also finished in the main group.

With just the time trial to go Schleck trails Ivanov by just 4 seconds, with Visconti just 5 seconds further back. Should be pretty interesting.

Tirreno - Adriatico Stage 7

A short time-trial to finish the tour off. As I expected Cancellara easily won to move him all the way up to 6th(!), while Sanchez moved up to 5th. The battle for the overall win was 4-way and was very, very close but the winner was.......

The first "monument" of the cyling season, Milano-San Remo is very nearly 300km long and despite being classed as a flat classic, there is some difficult climbing to be done. It is usually won by a punchy classics specialist or a sprinter as it usually ends in some kind of sprint.

Last year, Flecha outsprinted Ivanov in a fairly surprising finish. For us, Cancellara had attacked to early on the Poggio and got swallowed by the peloton on the finishing straight. This year though, Fabian is joined by Boasson Hagen and Chavanel as well as Thomas and Swift meaning we have lots of opportunities for the win but, of course, it is a very difficult race where plans are difficult to stick to.

Milano - San Remo Report

The goal for us here is to win and all of the sponsors are here in San Remo expecting to see our jersey on that podium. No pressure lads.

With just 292 kilometres still to go, Wyss (Geox) seemed very keen to kill himself by attacking straight out of the start but he didn't make it away, luckily for him!
i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0002-16.jpg

50 kms later, the breakaway had formed. There were 11 riders in it, with the strongest ones being Cataldo, Horner, Tiralongo and, on the front here, Danish champion Chris Anker Sorensen.
i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0003-17.jpg

Clearly wanting to make the most of his great form, Contador was at the race but an early crash didn't help and then he was caught the wrong side of a huge split in the peloton on La Manie which ended the race for over 80 riders.
i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0004-20.jpg

On the descent of La Manie, with rain yet again pouring down (a rather wet start to the season throughout Europe), French national champ, Offredo (FDJ) attacked and Burghardt (BMC) went with him. This lasted for 15kms before being brought back.
i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0006-20.jpg

Another big name who crashed was Cadel Evans who got back on but ended up way down as well.
i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0007-17.jpg

With Cipressa coming into view, Flecha tried to repeat his victory from last season, but this attack was far too soon and he was back in the peloton before the Poggio.
i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0009-16.jpg

HTC kept the pace so high on the Poggio that nobody could attack, even if they'd wanted to. Their plan was great except for one thing, Cav struggled to get over the climb at that pace, and was in no position for the sprint. On the other hand, we managed to get a great train going and Boasson Hagen only had Pozzato to beat...
Come on Eddy. YES!!!! Eddy just beats Pozzato on the line and takes a massive win for the team. Cancellara held on for 3rd aswell to give us a double podium in front of all of our sponsors.
i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0010-10.jpg

Cavendish was a disappointing 8th, while Geraint Thomas made it 2 Brits in the top 10 in 10th. The group that got caught out on La Manie, featuring riders like Sagan, Vinokourov, Contador, Breschel, Gerrans and Kolobnev finished 15 minutes down.

What a day for the team and with our sponsor goal count now at 2/2 after winning Omloop and this, we can expect a big bonus from the men in suits. Now we're off to the Volta a Catalunya before we head off to the cobbles again for the big ones. Exciting times.

In one of the most hectic parts of the season, four races are run at the same time in the next week. Because of this, almost the whole squad will get a run out somewhere. Cummings is being rested after a busy start to the season but everyone else is taking part somewhere.

Yeah, he can dine on that result for the rest of the season now. As far as I'm concerned he can do whatever he wants for the rest of the year, job done. Grin

Unless he dopes of course, then I shall have a word. Cool

*Readers*

I have decided not to start the Volta a Catalunya today as I am going on a long holiday (vacation for the non-BritsWink).

I will be going to Scotland tomorrow for 3 weeks and it's highly unlikely that I will have any internet connection so there will be no updates and I will start the Volta a Catalunya when I return at the end of August.

I WILL definitely resume this story so if you are a regular reader of this story please stay on board and I'm sorry if you were just getting into it but I do intend to continue to at least the end of the season.

Thanks.
