Seemed a bit funny still that A. Schleck is the one who is riding defensive now and let Contador do that eventhough he is the one who currently needs to get time on Contador. No way is half a minute enough for the time trial. Now soon he is going to have a hard time beating Menchov as well if he lets him get closer.
I'm starting to get the feeling that Schleck feels he has improved his time trialling enough to run Contador close
That's possible , but he must really be confident in his time trial abilities to think that he can win the Tour with 30 seconds over Contador before a 50km Time trial. |

I think Schleck is afraid that if he attacks and Conta follows, Conta will attack when Schleck is finished and gain much more time. So he might have decided to take his chances on the time trial, hoping that he will have his best time trial, Contador a bad day and the inspiration from riding in yellow. |

Great ride by Riblon. Fully deserved.
Also, remember back when i mentioned Menchov's chance of finishing ahead of Schletador?

If Andy is in yellow for the TT, he'll do the TT of his life, we usually see it in the yellow jersey. However, the current gap is not enough.

Huh. Löfkvist is the best placed Sky rider now. Not bad for him, but Wiggins can't be happy about his own performance sofar.

I think that Schleck shouldnt let Samu and Menchov let gain any time. If Contador can just sit in every mountain stage with Schleck and take yellow in TT, than Schleck in the end could not only lose yellow jersey, but podium too. Knowing Menchovs TT skills, and how Samu rides last grand tours TT. |

This cycling is disgusting. Contador and Schleck are the ruin of this sport. Shame. I hope sanchez or Menchov won the Tour |

Schleck won't end the race in a podium position if he keeps riding like today. |

Agreed, i wouldn't be too confident with Menchov and Sanchez 2 minutes behind him in a flat 52km time trial. Schleck can't ride this way no more. |

I find this pretty similar to the 2008 Tour situation, with Evans constantly defending and hoping for a good TT ride. OK, Contador isn't really defending, but his TT skills are clearly better than Schleck's. Can't wait for the Tourmalet.

I think Andy wasn't at his best today and yet he has no team in the mountains. That's why he was so sticked to Conta's wheel.
Meanwhile Menchov and Samy Sanchez we're laughing their socks off.
I should call it BUMPERCARS between Andy and Contador.
Funny stuff outhere. This stage looked like it'll be some gaps at the finish but it wasn't Basso who looked toasted and crushed to pieces still managed to hold on top 10.
Great ride from Riblon. Incredible pace and rhythm.

Too bad Menchov and Sanchez didn't win more time over the others.
Also amazing how Gesink looked dead at first but still managed to finish with the second group

Not amazing.
Not if you know Gesink.
Remember Sastre in his good days? Dropping at the foot of a climb to come back and even take the lead later?
Apply that to Gesink.
He just suffers, when after a long downhill, they immediately climb at a high pace.
Gesink immediately choses his own pace, rather than to follow, and blow up like LL Sanchez or Levi Leipheimer.
In the end, was he worse than Rodriguez or Vandenbroeck? No. Because at the end, those guys couldn't drop him anymore too.
Gesink gets better the longer a climb takes. Expect him to be really good at the Tourmalet. When we go to 2000m+ levels. |

No he wasn't. He is never dead. He just rides his own, maximum pace. He doesn't go over it, and therefore never blows up like mr. Leipheimer, mr. Sanchez and all other noobs.

Maybe Rabobank should play out either Menchov or Gesink when all the astana and Saxo Bank domestiques are done?
That could create trouble if Schleck and Conta rides like today. |
