It seems that the CAS will only decide whether the CONI's ban to ride in Italy was fair or not, so if Valverde loses, the ban in Italy will continue, and if he wins he'd be able to ride also there. So, if Valverde is to be banned everywhere it'd mean that either the UCI or the WADA would act by their own, banning him with the proofs owned by the CONI, and I can barely hope that. |

Apparently, anemics who took EPO for medical reasons had twice as high a risk for stroke.
Who else sees a rash of strokes from retired cyclists beginning in the next few years... |

Some more news on Valverde. Although the source I posted before wasn't technically wrong, they, as usual, are hiding information. It seems the the first day of the trial has been favourable to the CONI, but the decision to expand the ban does belong to the UCI and WADA (hence my doubt about if Piti's going to be banned finally). It doesn't seem that he'll be able to avoid the ban in Italy though.
So, a final conclusion, I've decided to punish myself. I'll write 100 times, "I won't trust in Marca again."

Oh yes, do you want to know the genius argument they use against the DNA match? They say Piti (the dog, obviously) wasn't born in 2004, when the bag of blood was extracted of the Valverde's body. Brilliant. |

Was that their defence? Cause if the DNA match then the name of the blod bag shouldn't matter at all.

Summing it up: He's banned in Italy for two years, and that's final.
For the rest of the world, it'll be up to the UCI and WADA to suspend him. At which point he will no doubt appeal the suspension to the CAS.

That's one of the arguments of his defense. It's weird yeah, but I suppose that when you're lost, desperation brings you to that point.

Not final yet, but it seems unavoidable.

There will be another CAS trial in March between UCI & WADA vs Valverde & Spanish Federation. I'm not sure if the world wide ban is to be decided there, or if it's the UCI and WADA which have to decide by their own. |

The UCI is granting Lampre a temporary ProTour license when the license commision meets tomorrow. They'll have until March 31st 2010 to solve their "serious administrative non-compliances"

I wonder what kind of problems that they have. They must be rather severe considering the fact that a team like Astana can go through |

Bad news all-round. Gaztañaga retires because he can't get a contract, Diego Milán thinks of doing the same, Arkaitz Durán after finally looking like starting to live up to his massive promisse gets mononucleosis and Mauricio Soler's been run over by a car.

Also, we'll know the final decision of the CAS on the Valverde's case in March, with no specific date revealed.

Unfortunatly more bad news
Laurent Fignon is struggling fighting advanced intestinal cancer.
It looks as if there will be a very sad ending to this mans story.
Edit: The AFP have a Fignon quote that goes something like this:
Fignon: "We haven't yet found how to fight my cancer." (AFP)

how is that a good thing? he's about as guilty as you can get, his whole defence is based around never having a dog called piti.
oh, and even if the uci doesnt make his ban worldwide, he won't be a tour contender.
you are an idiot. |

First of all that's a bit harsh 2nd of all maybe he likes Valverde and was one of his favourite riders. 3rd of all he is a tour contendor if he races in the tour because he is a world class climber and he proved it by winning the vuelta.
