Some of the Dutch orginizing commitee for the 2010 TdF start have gone mad.
They want a KOM sprint in the first stage to give the KOM jersey an owner. Ok so far, but... they want it on de 'Rijzendeweg', which isn't a climb even for Dutch standards. 340m at 3% avarage, 5% maximum. Heigth difference: 13m...
I've once ridden it, and I can tell you; it's nothing... Even some of the larger bridges around are harder... When I read this in the newspaper this morning I was like WTF, are they mad?
I hope the ASO is too smart to do this... Let them find a 'real hill' somewhere in Flanders....

meh
The ATOC has moved places on the calendar on some odd thought that it was one of the worlds most popular races, what they didn't think of was WHY.
The answer to WHY? - Look at the calendar in February, nothing. Alot of teams do wind tunnel stuff in the USA in February, was a nice tie in don't you think...
Oh, and look at that little Italian race it clashes with.
I might watch it, but i'm not going out of my way to watch it this year.

I understand now. They don't really care about competition. They really don't care about Europe. They want to expand cycling in America and they will draw more crowds this way.
The big American riders will show up, and Levi will win. As long as there aren't to any very tough stages it will be close enough to stay exciting.
What to they care if loads of big name Europeans show up and do not much. It won't increase sponsorship, won't get more people in America watching, won't really change the dynamics of the overall.
Anyway, look on the bright side, Brajkovic might get a leaders role in the Giro.

There is probably a couple of sponsors who would like to see their team racing in America instead of Europe. So I don't think Tour of California will have that big of a problem getting some good teams with good riders. Now you can watch the Giro one the days and the Tour of California on the nights.

Have they released the profiles yet? or is it just the race towns?

Just race towns. No profiles. But we know the climbs. So we can safely assume the last stage will be exciting with attacking and the rest of them (including the mountaintop finish) will be boring and devoid of much attacking.

They did the same in last Vuelta, giving points por the KOM jersey in a place where there wasn't any climb. They place the banner in front of a cemetery to remember a politic that was buried there. |
