Seriously now, how did England manage to do this?
Switzerland aren't that bad too..By the way Heskey for Defoe..Nice Capello I am sure that some i am sure that someone who knows what is football would have done better...Joe Cole and Carrick should play..If i was an England fan i would hope for a draw vs Slovenia...
I agree about Cole and Carrick, I think that would be better, but I doubt that they are going to be the saviours of the nation. Honestly, I'm surprised about Capello, a bit disappointed. Starting Heskey is the worst of all. I wouldn't even have taken him in the team. How about Bent, or even Kenwin Jones? Those guys I'd pick before him. And Walcott of course. |

I've been a fan for Beckham for many years, why should I change fav player just because he is getting older? Beckham is the best and will always be the best!
I dont go from Ronaldinho to Ronaldo to Messi like most do.

Of course you can still be a fan, but to say he's the best and will always be is delusional. They should play him forever then right?
He's not good enough any more. And he never was the best in the first place, but besides that, it's over.

Elia played so much better last match. Van der Vaart needs to do well today to stay in the starting 11 i think.

I actually think Capello has picked a reasonable squad for the tournament based on the players available.Darren Bent perhaps could have been selected at the expense of the hapless Heskey. But strikers are not going to be the players that win you games, it is the formation and the players in the middle of the park that matters. Joe Cole and Michael Carrick are hardly the answers either.
England, much like France, have a collection of real primadonnas. Anelka and Rooney can be super players who have great records in the Premier League (and one bad year in the champions league does not make a weak premier league before anyone starts). Both have had very poor games, and both spat their dummies out in different ways.
You can make similar comparisons in midfield, Ribery and Gerrard out of position, both have had mixed seasons for their clubs. Both at least seemed to be doing some positive things for their side. Both sides seem utterly rudderless though and enter the last round of fixtures luckily with some hope of qualification.
The best formation I can hope England play against Slovenia is this:
James (GK)
Johnson (RB), Dawson (CB), Terry (CB), Cole (LB)
Barry (DM)
Lennon, Lampard, Wright-Phillips (Midfield)
Gerrard(AM)
Rooney (Str)
Capello may play Defoe as I think Slovenia may be suspect for pace at the back. I think they can defend against high balls (espiecially the kind England deliver) all day.
Anyway at last the next game, another Euro nation to falter? |

Real lousy performance of Holland in the first half. Japan is really playing well, just need to be a bit more cool in the attacks.

I think Shawcross, Bent, Zamora and Agbonlahor all probably should have been in the english squad.

True. With this kind of play, they will be knocked out whenever they meet a good team. |

Damn, this was bad. This game was absolutely terrible. No movement in the attack, slow passing, etc. We're just lucky. Again. |

Anelka has been sent home. Eventually... Why was he there in the first place ?
As for why they can't play as a team, according to a French newspaper (Liberation), the day prior to the match against Mexico, 4 players (Henry, Ribéry, Evra, Gallas) went to see Domenech, asked for a tactical change (4-4-2 instead of 4-2-3-1), asked to have Gourcuff and Govou on the bench with Henry and Valbuena on the pitch in their place. Domenech agreed.
On the next day (match day), Domenech learnt it was Zidane who had asked the players to request that change. So Domenech went nuts and kept his 4-2-3-1. Henry didn't play, Gallas, Evra and Ribéry did crap, Valbuena entered too late to do anything (but being a bastard).
From the day Zidane came back in the national team, in October 2005, Domenech lost his authority upon the players. During the WC 2006, it was Zidane who was deciding almost everything, and he was absolutely livid the one time Domenech took him out (at the 85th minute or so). Thankfully Zidane played God-like till the finale, sadly he went nuts at Matterazi and that possibly cost us a victory... Ever since then he's been bashing Domenech whenever he could, just like most of his close friends who won the WC98 and the EC2000.
Looks like we're not saved yet...
