... but at least you managed a 4th place in the GC. Although tied to the third placed rider. |

4th was only because of the bonus seconds, that no other rider was interested in .... I thought it was a bad race, because we had no chance to get a stage win, even is Ligthart is in this field one of the better sprinters...

Not the best race for you, but you go away with nice 4th and KoM jersey, so good job. Gesink doing good in Pais Vasco is also quite nice, let's hope he will regain 6th and end the race on good position

Last stage in the Vuelta al Pias Vasco, a 20.1km individual time trial. Start and finish are in the town of Orio, and between is a climb to an altitude of about 300 metres.
The best time is set by German Tony Martin, untill Peter Sagan starts his race. A great daily form (+5) helps him to the best time so far, 33'06.
No one breaks that time, untill the last 7 riders have to finish. First of them is, of course, GC's number 7 Robert Gesink. Our Dutch leader sets a pretty weak split time (25th at '25), but is flying in the last part, and finishes in the 2nd time so far (with daily form of 0), '5 behind Sagan.
Gesink has to gain '32 to Damiano Cunego, but won't succeed in it. Cunego rides the 14th time of the day, '30 behind the winner.
Rigoberto Urán sets the fastest split time, even '3 faster than Sagan, but can't keep th epace this high in th elast downhill part. Same time as Gesink, only a few tenths of a second behind.
MOving up to the number 4 of the GC, Chris Horner. Horner recently announced his retirement at the end of the season and is eager to show what a guy in his forties is capable of. He finishes '11 behind Sagan, and knows that this time can bring him to the GC-podium!
Joaquim Rodríguez is possibly the weakest time trialist in the top 7. So he surprsises everyone with the 2nd split time, only '1 behind Urán. But he falls back in the second half, '25 behind our Slovakian friend and also behind Horner in the GC.
The last 2 of the GC have started, and the gap between Igor Antón and Alberto Contador is only 9 seconds. At the split time, at the top of the hill, with a 12km descend remaining, this is the situation:
1. Rigoberto Urán 16'19 | 2. Joaquim Rodríguez +1 | 3. Peter Sagan +3 | 4. Chris Horner +4 | 7. Damiano Cunego +12 | 8. Alberto Contador +12 | 14. Igor Antón +16 | 25. Robert Gesink +25 |
This means that Antón is still in yellow, but has lost almost 50% of his lead!
Contador rides a good 2nd half, climbing 3 places to 5th overall, '11 behind Sagan in 33'17.
So Antón knows he has to finish before the clock hits 33'27. But he won't make it, he is slower. To stay in front of Chris Horner, he has to be faster than 33'41. But again, he doesn't make it: 33'47.

So Alberto Contador wins the Vuelta al Pais Vasco for the third time, the same as Sean Kelly and Toony Rominger did in the past. Antón even gets passed by Horner. Gesink finishes in 7th.

Overall winner
Word from the DS
Again, we can look back very happy to a World Tour race. We won another World Tour-stage (this time an ITT), won another KOTM-ranking, and took the 7th place in the GC. Of course, we hoped for a Top 5, but we are satisfied with this. And it's funny to see that the best two riders in the Vuelta al Pais Vasco (Rodríguez and Antón) could not win the GC, the ITT was decisive.

Great time-trial from both Sagan and Gesink. What are their respective stats? To beat some of the greats is impressive. Deserves a banana |

All cycling loving eyes of the world are fixed on the North of France, for the 110th edition of Paris - Roubaix. The most famous cobbled-classic in the world (the Ronde has hills in it), also known as the Hell of the North.
In the previous 109 edition, the race was won 53 times by a Belgian cyclist, and Roger De Vlaeminck is the record winner, with 4 wins in '72, '74, 75 and '77.
The route is 258 kilometres, with the start in Compiegne and the finish traditionally at the Vélodrome of Roubaix.
The route contains 27 cobbled sections with a total length of more than 50 kilometre, varying from pretty easy to very difficult. The race normally starts at the cobbled section of the Trouée d'Arenberg (Forrest of Wallers), Mons-en-Pévele and the Carrefour de l'Arbre.
The race in 2011 was dominated by Norwegian Thor Hushovd, who was the 11th rider in history winning De Ronde van Vlaanderen - and Paris - Roubaix back to back.

Our team
The favourites
***
Last year's winner Thor Hushovd is the biggest favourites, also because he won the Ronde van Vlaanderen won week ago. His team is probably the strongest, with Ballan, Hincapie, Leukemans, Van Avermaet and Quinziato as very luxury domestiques.
Tom Boonen was the strongest rider in the cobbled classics before the Ronde, winning 4 of them. Boonen has won the race in '05, '08 and '09 and is eager to get his 4th win and to get equal with Roger De Vlaeminck, also known as Monsieur Paris-Roubaix.
Fabian Cancellara did not won a single cobbled race so far this season. Okay, he won the Driedaagse De Panne - Koksijde, but that was in the time trial. The double winner ('06 and '10) is looking for his 3rd win, never count him it!
** Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky), Niki Terpstra, Sylvain Chavanel (Garmin)
* Johan Vansummeren (Garmin), Alessandro Ballan (BMC), Matti Breschel (Rabobank), Sebastian Langeveld (Qantas), Lars Boom (Rabobank)
Our goal
Our sponsor wants a top 5, so that's our goal. But we know it will be very tough to achieve it.
One preview for the race:

You have to! I've played the race, but because I'm going to my family for X-mas, I won't make the report today or tomorrow.
Happy holidays, merry x-mas to all my story-followers (and everyone who doesn't)!
