Oscar Pereiro won the Tour in '06 in something similar to this. I think the group was only 20-25 riders though.
It was 2 riders wasnt it? Voigt and Pereiro
I'm pretty sure there were at least 2 more riders in that breakaway. I think I remember Quinziato and Chavanel too. But they were dropped before the sprint. |

Yeah I saw it, but it wasn't there at the time I was typing it. When you mention it I remember Grivko getting dropped too. Posts are flooding this thread right now so it's kind of hard to not miss out on a message before you reply. |

Not quite sure whether Basso and Nibali are in Vino/Scarponi group. Androni and Astana seemed to do all the work there, so Liquigas might've dropped into 3rd group.
Nah. Liquigas just have 2 "captains" in the front group. Agnoli and Kiserlovski will both move into top 5 after this stage, and are actually a pretty decent go for a good overall. I think Nibali and Basso are just sitting in the pack letting others do the job.
Yep, they just showed Basso, and I think Nibali, on camera, sitting a few wheels behind Vino

So let's say the break wins the stage 15 minutes in front of Evans and Vinokourov. Will they be able to hold on to the Giro overall lead? I imagine seeing alot of hard racing and action in the last week. This could be really interesting. |

The gap is down to 13-something.
Still, if the gap is above 10 minutes at the end of this stage, will anyone then be able to beat the likes of Tondo and Arroyo? |

Damn, already back on - unlikely he wouldn't rejoin, but a man can dream!

anyone knows the maximum time limit rule on such a stage? Plenty of people loose contact very soon in the stage.
I wonder how many people will arrive in Verona for the last stage with all the mountain stages yet to come. |

After todays stage it will be, i cant see them pulling it back, i will be very surprised if the gap is less than 5mins at the line, Vino's group is only small. |

I don't think Tondo has what it takes. I'm more into Arroyo... But it will be good, because now the italian climbers will have to open the race wide open in the mountains.

Heh, the commentators didn't have time to name everyone in the leading group between commercial breaks...

Just asked the danish comentators "What is your point of view as to Eurosport showing female tennis while cycling history is being written. Don't you have a Eurosport 2 for less interesting sport activities?"
I wonder if they are going to answer that.
