Just returned home from the best training of the year, and think i will share my experience with you.
We were 4 had a new guy with us today, who rode cat. A races here in Denmark 6 years ago and has not been riding since. Damn he's good, so we went for at 60k trip with pretty many hills, full speed with 33kph average. Not long or fast for you who ride real races but i really enjoyed it. The weather was good, 18C so the warmest day this year, high pace, hills, so pretty much Perfect...
Until 300m before our training was over and we had a sprint at a signpost, which usually is very fun, but not today. I was at the outside and one of my friends got a bit too far out to the side, so i could not avoid touching his rear wheel.
[Sound of a crashing bike]
I went directly over the handlebar and landed on my shoulder and a bit on my head. Luckily i rolled down in a ditch so did not get too hurt, but i got a few scratches and hurt my left shoulder which is very painful.
At first it it looked like my rear derailleur was totally broken, but after a few minutes i got it sorted so i could ride home. The shifters got a lot of scratches and also a few other places. I was very surprised that the adjustment barrel on the rear brake was broken, how the hell can that happen? When my shoulder is OK again i got a lot of repairing to do, and hopefully i can ride again soon without buying a lot of new parts.
Actually it was my first real and I'm thankful that i did not get more hurt and my bike is not totally broken so i don't have ho buy a brand new one.

Nice. Love those handles. Not sure if the stripes help for anything but they sure look good.

It's VCRC pro bars, matching stem, both aluminum, and Fizik dual tape.

yup. Works fine for me. Spent a few laps in the breakaway today at a Pro race with 2 Yahoo, and a Cal Giant rider, and not even in the tailwind section did I feel I needed anything more.

Just killed myself on the trainer today...
I've got one of those tacx i-magic trainers....
Well anyway... i just took over 9minutes off my best time up Alp d'huez.... i averaged 220watts spinning 90rpm... that may not be very good for you guys, but considering i just cycle out of enjoyment i was pretty happy...
It must have been 30 degrees in my conservatory so i got the temperature simulation about right

Today it is one week since i crashed and it still hurts. Therefore i went to my doctor, and later i the hospital. There i found out that my collarbone is broken. So next week i find out what is going to happen and if it is necessary with a surgery, which i don't hope.
When i think of a broken collarbone, i think of cyclist crashing at 70ish kph downhill who got a lot of pain... Not me, so i anyway i must have been a bit lucky.
S now i will have some weeks off the racing bike, and can not participate in the first race i planned to do
Btw. do any of you have tried to brake a collarbone, and how long break did you have before racing again?

I have a friend who broke his collarbone last season.
You can probably start training lightly on a roller after just a week and you should be back on the road after a little over a month. You might race after one and a half month if you are lucky, but your form will be crap. |

I've broken mine 3 times, hiking is doable immediately, trainer, as long as you are careful, 2 weeks, road time at least 4-6 weeks. Most importantly is take care of it.

Well, after 3 and a half months, I've completed my first days of training once again.
5 days later, and 12.5 hours worth of sunny smashing myself into the ground. I think I've earned my rest day tomorrow. Just the gym to look forward to, oh, and maybe some more time in a hot tub? (But that's a story for a rainy day!)

I crashed going downhill onto well unjulating cobbles, just over a month ago, i was very lucky, cuts on the elbow and a puncture wound in my leg, bike got repaired today so im back of my old bike, but today i tried the cluv 10mile time trail course n found im missing 3mph somewhere, as i normally average 20mph, today i averaged 17mph, ive been back on the bike for 2 and a half weeks now but i have now done 72miles already this week in the nice 27C temperatures, ive got another 60, 70 miles tomorrow. |

I recently made my first ever cycling race. It was 20 km ITT, 4 laps with quite tough climb (0,75 km with 12% slope). I started it just to start it and finish, I didn't went there for result and I thought that I will be last there.
But I finished 51th from 55 riders. Moreower, as I was the only rider from my category, I had won it

2 crits today, one in the 3's where is finished 28th and one in the pro's. Dnf'ed the pros. Jumped in a 10 man break that had 2 yahoo guys, one cal giant and one McGuire's rider. Bridged up after they were established. Soon as I got up there the break stopped working and sat up, so a couple guys attacked one by one and I maxed out trying to stay with the front guys. We got caught a few laps later. I got dropped afterwards, cause as soon as we got caught there were a ton more attacks. 2 more races tomorrow. This time a curcuit race.

There's a difference between crits and circuit races? Or are you Americans just confused again?

they're always confused. language was never their strong point
my first road race as a junior tuesday (also my first road race ever) on a short course with a couple of small climbs. We do 7 laps (50k) and finish on top of a climb. it's a 2/3/4 so hopefully i won't be completely annihilated but i'm not expecting anything. should see tomzk there for the battle of pcmdaily south region champion.
