krisa - Thanks
PCM rulezz - They will! Though it's one more flat race before the rest day.
Ollfardh - Let's hope he can fight for yellow one day! Hope to be the first Belgian winner in a long time, so VDB, Vanendert and De Gendt can't win first
dienblad - I agree! But there are many mountain stages yet to come, and his climbing is not (yet) Contador's level...
JuanMotr - He'll do his best!
FreitasPCM - Will try to!
rogvi97 - Damn, threats here
sutty68 - Let's hope he can wear it a lot more in the future
Jakstar22 - Thanks! |

I think White is in the pocket already, there isn't really a tough competition He's leading is by 5 minutes or so! |

Tour de France 2013 - Stage 9
The end of the first week. Today is the rest day, but here's the report about what happened yesterday!
The stage was as flat as could be, at least the finish was. A chance for Stijn to prove he can mix in with the world's best sprinters!
I had an easy day.
It's a rest day now, and finally all that's happened is sinking in. Winning a stage in the 100th Tour de France and wearing that jersey. I still don't fully grasp it. I guess it'll really kick in once all this is over....
Back to the racing, something really shitty happened to Stijn today. Cavendish totally blocked him! Stijn won't say anything about it, saying it's part of the sprint, but I think it's really unfair, Stijn was going strong! Anyway, just keep that in mind when reading Stijn's part of the story, because he'll make up an excuse about not being good enough, while he was going really strong!
I must admit, I've never seen Stijn so strong. I've seen him in the cobbled classics, doing his thing, but this here is impressive. That jersey (Belgian NC jersey) has changed him and made him stronger. I see him riding like a true leader, though he's only 23 years old!
The race was real flat, so everyone was there at the end. I had to fight Peter Sagan for Cavendish' wheel!
As you see in the next picture, Greipel was the one that finally grabbed it. I placed myself in Farrar's wheel.
I knew my strength in the sprint is my power. The absolute speed, I (still) lack, so I decided to throw them off and go from far out.
I was going quite good, but I couldn't continue my top speed and I didn't pass the king of the sprinters, Cavendish.
He went on to win the stage, in style! I finish 7th. Let me tell you, in a Tour stage, between the best sprinters of the world, it's amazing. I couldn't even try explaining how proud this makes me. Two years ago I didn't have a real professional contract, now I'm sprinting Cavendish and Greipel in the Tour!
Result
1 | Mark Cavendish | Sky Pro Cycling | 4h20'30 | | 2 | Arnaud Démare | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 3 | Tyler Farrar | Team Garmin-Barracuda | s.t. | | 4 | José Joaquin Rojas Gil | Katusha Team | s.t. | | 5 | Peter Sagan | Liquigas-Cannondale | s.t. | | 6 | Romain Feillu | Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | | 7 | Stijn Van Gent | Team Argos-Shimano | s.t. | IanButler | 8 | Yauheni Hutarovich | FDJ-BigMat | s.t. | | 9 | Tom Boonen | Omega Pharma-Quick-Step Cycling Team | s.t. | | 10 | Allan Davis | Orica-GreenEDGE | s.t.
No changes in the GC.
It's a rest day today, and what follows now are three more "flat" stages!
The first one has some hills near the end, though, let's see if we can drop some pure sprinters on the way to the finish line!
Until tomorrow,
Stijn & Willy |

Tour de France 2013 - Stage 10
After the rest day and everyone's caught their breath!
Another sprint stage, with some tough terrain near the end.
Nothing to tell, except that I had a good day! I had super legs and I regretted not being in a mountain stage with these legs!
Maybe an interesting news item. The GC has changed after this stage. It ended in a sprint, but Schleck caught a flat and failed to return on time, he drops out of the top 10!
General Classification
1 | Alberto Contador | Team Saxo Bank | 40h13'37 | | 2 | Vincenzo Nibali | Liquigas-Cannondale | + 46 | | 3 | Pierre Rolland | Team Europcar | + 1'56 | | 4 | Rui Costa | Team Argos-Shimano | + 1'59 | IanButler | 5 | Willy Wouters | Team Argos-Shimano | + 2'00 | IanButler | 6 | Alejandro Valverde | Astana Pro Team | + 2'15 | | 7 | Chris Froome | Sky Pro Cycling | + 2'42 | | 8 | Jelle Vanendert | Lotto Belisol | + 2'47 | | 9 | Jurgen Van den Broeck | Lotto Belisol | + 3'08 | | 10 | Thomas De Gendt | Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team | + 3'34
No matter how much I've grown over the last few months, uphill is still uphill. I'm badly positioned and have a tough time!
Near the top I make a nice jump to Sagan's wheel. I need to get the jump to be positioned well for the sprint, but because I made it, I had no energy left for the sprint...
My sprinting attempt is futile and I finish outside the top 10. A day to forget...
Appollonio took a very nice win today!
I feel I didn't do this jersey much honor today. I will try to do much better tomorrow!

Atlantius - That GC will change in the mountains, though
FreitasPCM - I hope he does!
SSJ2Luigi - Indeed. Though if 2 of them can remain in the top 10, it'd be great already
PCM rulezz - That's true. Hope he can get over it mentally for tomorrow
Jakstar22 - They will! Thanks.
JuanMotr - Well, he was too badly placed at the start of the hill. Typical lack of experience, I reckon. Let's hope your nose doesn't let us down!
I will definitely do a race today, but work comes first so it'll be after 5 o' clock in the afternoon!
Thanks for following and commenting, everyone! I think the story is getting along nicely, especially with such a great following |

Thanks, sutty
I caught quite a break with my work, so I might have a bit more time in the following 2 weeks then I thought. I will use that time mostly to follow Paris - Nice closely, though
