Other Races 2011
Roman
Nice to see Stybar riding another solid race. I hope for good results for him in Belgium and Switzerland. Smile

So organiser of ATOC say race on, the riders on Twitter are not at all happy.

Leigh Howard
Tour or California has decided 1 major accident for 2011 isnt enough so now we are racing in -2deg, wind chill -9deg and SNOW

Matt Goss
Cannot believe that the TOC is going to make us race in -2 degrees and snow with -9 wind chill factor, come on guys!

Daniel Benson
Freire (confirmed to CN), Horner Leipheimer, Hincapie (confirmed to CN by Shack) don't think the stage should go ahead.

I used to wear shorts in -9C I dont see why they are all complaining, seriously its not that bad.

From the pictures I saw the road didn't even look covered by snow (but maybe Levi knows more than me). I can easily make my body warm in less than 10 minutes in that temperature.

Edit: There's also this great innovation:

Stick them in your shoes or your back pouch.

I don't know if it's rained or snow in Cali lately, but the negative temperature could mean some ice on the road, and imply loads of falls.
Plus riders have very little fat, just think of Dario Pieri, they can't cope with cold as well as normal people.

Plenty of overnight Snow.

There was no way the riders were gonna race, particularly after WW.

The race doctor says Ice is the dangerous thing. Hypothermia is not an issue with the 80km shortened stage.

Anyway, NOW THAT WAS A RACE... more exciting than the giro... you bet!

Stage 2 of ATCO has also been shortened to 100k, and the start moved to a different city. Gonna be a criterium, the whole race is downhill pretty much.

I'm noyt sure if its worth mentioning but they are doing 2 laps in Sacramento now instead of just 1, I mean this day wass either going to finish in a breakaway win or a sprint anyway so I'm fine as long as they actually do race.

If it's a crit, it is impossible for the race to be all downhillWink

Smarty pants. Cool

I think he meant most of the stage is mostly downhill. In the link below you can see the elevation. The stage starts at about the 50 mile mark just after the Lowel Hill.

https://www.amgent...tage2.html

Edit: But even then its still barely half downhill.

I found this awesome stream on Steephill. Coverage doesn't start for an hour though.

Hopefully its not geo-restricted.

Anyone going to watch the race live? Great race tracker and live feed at the ToC website. Feed should start 16:45ET, so that means 2245 CET?
