Garmin - End of 3rd Season - Continue in PCM11
roturn
The final stage should be way too hard for Neirynck, so definitely. Only problem is that the last stage is almost a mountain stage and Vansummeren has just 71mo. So Sicard or Moinard might be better there.
We will see the result, also looking forward for playing this stage.

tsmoha
Nice win! Congrats! Looking forward to the final stage, too Smile It's a short, but difficult climb. Vansummeren's 71mo isn't the best, but still good enough to make a surprise! Good luck!

Pellizotti2
Nice win with Vansummeren, hopefully he can take the overall too.

+1 Good luck, would be a nice win for Vansummeren.

nice sprint with vansummeren. i think he can take the overall victory

Thanks all. If it worked for Vansummeren you will see below Wink

Tour Méditerranéen Cycliste Professionnel - Stage 5
Sauvian - Gruissan

The last stage will bring a decision for the overall win. All favourites are still very close together and so it will be a very close battle. Especially Vansummeren, Sicard and Moinard showed a strong performance so far but also Roche, Roy and even Stetina have outsider chances.
The last climb with 5.5km and 8% in average is very tough.

img822.imageshack.us/img822/368/pcm0016r.jpg
Cusin (Cofidis), Calzati (FDJ), Mestre (Saxobank), Berdos (HTC) and Perget (Movistar) are the first group. The group were found one the climb to the 2nd mountain sprint. None of them is very dangerous for the favourites. Behind them some single riders try to join them.

img694.imageshack.us/img694/7919/pcm0017j.jpg
Later Jones (TT1) and Nocentini (Ag2r) were able to jump into the group. The Italian was also a good bet for the overall win but after the crash on stage 1 with Fuglsang, Albasini and many more he alreadly lost a lot of time.

img842.imageshack.us/img842/2356/pcm0018j.jpg
Androni, Europcar and Garmin are controlling the situation. While Androni's work for Neirynck might be quite desperate, Europcar and Garmin have the biggest favourites for the overall win in their squad.

img84.imageshack.us/img84/1450/pcm0019s.jpg
After the last mountain sprint Moinard, Sicard and also his team mate Lhotellerie were able to create a gap. Not the best situation for Vansummeren, who is still in the smaller Peloton a few meters back.

img843.imageshack.us/img843/2629/pcm0020b.jpg
Stetina brings Vansummeren back to the top, while the break gets caught.
Vansummeren is still feeling great and Stetina is doing great here, but he won`t be able to help him longer.

img687.imageshack.us/img687/5460/pcm0021.jpg
As expected it looks like a battle between these 3 riders. Stetina, Lhotellerie and the former break are following next before the "peloton" around Roche, who isn`t in form yet, but he might be a great performer in the Ardennes.
Sicard is the strognest and always increases a bit, while Vansummeren and Moinard have to fight to hold contact. The last 2 kilometer are extremely hard and so Sicard has advantages, while Vansummeren with his 1.97m and almost 80kg struggles more of course.

img62.imageshack.us/img62/1131/pcm0022q.jpg
Sicard wins the stage a few seconds ahead of Moinard. Vansummeren follows with some meters back.
It`s enough to save the 2nd ahead of the older French rider but the French Basque will take the overall win and celebrates a great win after a convincing performance. Stetina finishes in the next group and will become a good 4th in the overall, what is definitely one of his biggest moments.
Especially after the crash of our leader, we are very happy to get that great results although the starting field wasn`t that strong.

3rd on that hard stage and 2nd overall is still a great result for Vansummeren. Great performance by Stetina too, 4th overall is a nice result for him.

Nice try. It was always going to be hard for Vansummeren to hold onto the lead.

Obviously yes Grin

Thanks for your comments.
Vansummeren -> great hill, average climber
Stetina -> great climber, average hill

Would have needed a mix between them (Fuglsang) to beat Sicard who is 75mo/74hi I think.

Next race will be the Tour of Oman 2011 version with the climb to Green Mountain (up to the final top and not like in real finishing at half time)

tsmoha
Great fight with Vansummeren and 2nd overall with such a difficult last stage is really good with an average climber like he is!

baia
Well, you won those 54" but lost 16" for anotherGrinAngry,,great stage and great 2nd overall..

janne_837
Indeed a nice second! Your doing an extremely good job at extreme!

It's nice to follow your story, not only the pictures are pretty realistic but also the results. It wil be funny when you play a couple of season and when there are some new talents coming trough...

Succes!

Thanks all.
@tsmoha: The starting field wasn`t too strong actually and the best puncheurs like Roche, Nocentini or Albasini crashed or were out of form
@Tombola: Nice to hear. Not sure how long I will play this career, but the first talents are already coming soon Wink
Stetina as real rider is doign great, Dao as young scouted rider can start winning sprints soon plus a few other great talents.

The Tour of Oman is a six day stage race held in Oman. It was first held in 2010 but already with many stars, which start their season in the desert of Qatar and Oman in mid February. Similar to Qatar the riders expect a heavy wind, which makes the race interesting.
It`s part of the Asia Tour and is a 2.1 race
While the first edition was still completely flat and something for sprinters and time trialists, we will see some great climbing this year.

img171.imageshack.us/img171/4069/parcoursu.jpg

The highlight of this version is definitely the climb onto the Jabal al Akbdhar (Green Mountain). It`s the hardest climb so far in the season with an average of ~10%. As normally many sprinters participate here, we expect a mixed field with the best sprinters and some good climbers.

After winning with Zabriskie in 2010 we didn`t participate in 2011. RadioShack, Leopard and Sky were the three dominant teams. For Hushovd it was one positive point of a quite disappointing season. Transferring to Katusha afterwards might bring the success back.

Garmin squad in 2012
img404.imageshack.us/img404/575/teamb.jpg
Matthew Goss will be our man for the sprints. After the TdU, where he had to help in some stages, he will be our only man for the flat stages this time. For the overall we have Dan Martin, who showed a great performance in the Calabria mountains. With his lack in timetrial he needs to perform very good on the way to the Green Mountain. He will be supported by Peterson and Duggan, while Meyer and Bobridge primarily will support Goss. Vandervelde and Meier complete our squad.

Favourites

*** Uran
** Larsson, Martin
* Armstrong, Paulinho, Kruijswijk

Next to these favourites we might expect something from Andreas Klöden in his old days, Boasson Hagen, Peterson, Iglinsky or Ardila.
In the sprints we will see great battles between a big list of excellent sprinters.
Hagen, Pozzato, Goss, Davis, Brown, Breschel, Steegmans, Leezer and Roelandts might be the best here. So we will see 4 exciting flat stages, 1 incredible mountain stage and an hilly time trial, where also Bobridge and Meyer will show a good performance, but the high favourite for this stage is Larrson.

VladuuTs
good luck in oman! Smile

janne_837
Armstrong for Oman  Good luck! Martin already showed that his shape is not too bad, I am sure he will win Smile

roturn
Thanks both.
Martins form is back on 70 again. But as the stge is harder than in real, where the climb is 500 meters of height shorter, this might be an advantage for him.
Also that the timetrial isn`t really flat will help him.

Armstrong, Paulinho and Klöden are all just between 72-73 in mountain, but better time trialists. As also Larsson.

Tour of Oman - Stage 1
Muscat Corniche
img98.imageshack.us/img98/3536/pcm0001q.jpg
The race starts with a quite flat stage. We expect a sprint finish here as it is the 1st stage and a lot of sprinters are participating.
Because of the very heavy wind today tje situation can change immediately.

img203.imageshack.us/img203/3347/pcm0002y.jpg
Niermann (CCC), Mannion (BMC), McDonald (Drapac), Novikov (Itera), Marycz (Leopard) and some more were attacking after the start hoping for a surprise.

img228.imageshack.us/img228/89/pcm0003.jpg
Sky, Astana and RadioShack are doing the pace. Especially RadioShack with big ambitions in Oman obvioulsy.

img28.imageshack.us/img28/2973/pcm0004mc.jpg
The peloton increases to catch the riders. Due to the heavy wind the peloton is very long now...

img135.imageshack.us/img135/4673/pcm0005h.jpg
...and splits into several pieces. Except of Bobridge and Duggan, our riders are in the first group. With Ardila, Armstrong and Kruijswijk some overall riders are behind and also some sprinters like the 3 Astana riders Davis, Brown and Pozzato are behind.

img691.imageshack.us/img691/8145/pcm0006r.jpg
Goss in an average position behind Steegmans and Boasson Hagen.

img232.imageshack.us/img232/6278/pcm0007z.jpg
And the Australian with the first win for Garmin. Hagen and Steegmans were much too early in the wind and so it was an easy ride for Goss.
Unfortunately the next group around Kruijswijk, Bobridge and Ardila were counted same time. But Armstrong and Uran with already 3min back today.
