As you seem to be the BMX expert Do you know if there are any good Germans male or female? I don't know anything about BMX to be honest
2 German males, who can ride well, but will probably not qualify for the semis. No German females, as their best female rider (Nadja Pries) is only a Junior, so isn't allowed to race (in the Olympics, only the Elite, so 19 years and over).
The competition is as follows:
- 1 seeding run, which will determine the lineup of the quarter finals (men) and the semi-finals (women). All riders progress to the next run.
- 32 men will be divided in 4 groups of 8 riders (best 4 of the time trial will each get their "own" moto). They race 3 races with the same groups. A win is awardes with 1 point, a 2nd with 2, a 3rd with 3 etc. The 4 riders with the least points advance to the semi finals.
- Semi finals (both men and women), are also 3 races (in normal race, only 1). The best 4 out of each group of the semi final qualify for the final.
- Final is 1 run.
And Mr_bob, I'm a huge BMX-fan. Was a BMX-racer myself for more than 25 years at a decent level (1 time National champ in the Amateur class, 1 time 6 at the European champs in the same Amateur class (17 years and over)), but never raced the Elite-class. Went t see a few Super Cross-races (Holland and Denmark) and still love the sport!
Ah, a seeding run as well, similar to the track running, hopefully they'll do well enough to avoid the big names, then again... I don't expect anything serious until the Semis at least, though I hope they avoid trouble, I still remember Beijing, had a really good chance to medal... ah well, lol.
Cheers for the info mate!
An actual BMX racer back in the day? And a pretty good goer at it, very nice! Considering you're Dutch, that's very impressive considering the quality! Think the Dutch have got 3 riders each for the men's and one for the ladies, quite keen on getting a 2nd gold in cycling, lol.

BMX'ing just doesn't do anything for me
Well, when you're not known with it, then timetrials are boring.... Will be the same as watching the track 400metres run one by one. Just wait for the quarter finals and so on tomorrow, and give it one more chance. Will be way more exciting

Useless as they have proven to be, it is the UCI's & IOC's job to get stressed over such matters...
I have full confidence in UCI and IOC doing their job properly :
Here's a summary of their reactions to any potential problem :
No problem : self-congratulation
Problem : deny problem
Many complaints about a problem : pretend to start an investigation.
Too many complaints about a problem : start an investigation (and take it easy)
Found nothing during investigation : no problem.
Found something during investigation : need no scandal -> claim everything is fine.
Business is business and must go on, scandals are bad for business.

True sadly, efficient following of the FIFA style...
Well, sutty, still feel the smae about BMX, or did you changed your opinion a little bit?
Ow, was wrong about the procedure. In normal races, there are only 3 heats, now there were 5, with the 2 best qualifying after 3 heats. And 5 of these laps within 2 hours are extremly tough. Don't see a track athlete running the 400 metres 5 times in 2 hours.... Your muscles are filling up with lactic acid... That's gonna hurt.

Yeah they are pretty bad... like you are saying though, complaints don't mean anything to them (nor would an everyman complaint mean anything to even the most respectable of sporting bodies), hence why I don't understand all the flaming and complaining, which was just making people look sore that their nation can't win at something.
Well, I don't care much to see the French beaten, as long as things look "realistic" in my eyes. They could be the Zimbabwean team instead, I hope I'd react the same.
And actually, if you compare them to the Germans or the Aussies, among others, the French are more or less where you'd expect them to be.
That plus the total razzia of medals by the Brits and their shabby behaviour (about wheels, etc.), it doesn't serve their credibility.
I hope there's no need to say that I have absolutely nothing against British people in general.
And it's not because no official sporting body will ever do anything against it that I'm not going to claim it's wrong on an internet forum, though I know it's almost useless.
Well that's fair enough (not that you were one of the 'flamers' anyway)... I think I was in one of my philosophical/perfectionist moods again in any case
And like I say, I'd be happy enough to (passively ) subscribe to the speculation about GB, on the track at least.
However I'll admit that Zimbabwe suddenly winning golds on the track in Rio might even get me speculating a little..!

I must admit i never expected to see so many crashes
But whenever i see the proper racing it does seem a lot better than the time trial was

Told you so! Crashing is a part of the sport and the amount of crashes Thursday was pretty normal for a track like this. 2.5 hours to go before the semis and the finals. Working my ass off to get the work done in time and go home to watch it!

Think i will tune in too once i have finished mowing the lawns
Some great races, with lots of famous athletes in the crowd (David Beckham, gold medaillist Dorian van Rijsselberge etc) and thrilling to watch.
A fantastic bronze medal (and unexpected) for Dutch Laura Smulders, with Colombias Mariana Pajon winning the gold and killer-smile Sarah Walker winning the silver.
WIth the mens race, 'The Machine' prooved today that in 2012, the human still can't beat a machine. Maris Strombergs wins the gold, just as in Beijing. We Dutch missed the medals with a 4th and 5th.
I can say: "Proud to be an ex-BMX-rider"......... (and why are the next Olympics in 2016, have to wait 4 more years....)
I saw a man with a little brush and small white box and wondered what he was doing until the ex champion being interviewed said he was collecting teeth
So yes dienblad, i may be viewing BMX'ing differently from now on
