Team HTC-Columbia - The End!

Welcome to the most exciting stage of this Tour! The profile shows a good oppurtunity for Albasini, getting more KoM points. The last climb is more than 50 kilometres from the stage finish, so it´s hard to say if there will be any attacks from the favorites

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/2-10.jpg
First of all, our plan, sending Albasini in today´s breakaway, was successful.
He won 3 of 4 KoM competitions which brought him 59 points and the jersey for the best climber

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/3-9.jpg
We´re already on the last climb and a few riders like Danielson and Casar decided to make a move with only 1,3 kilometres to go. Monfort felt just amazing today and we tried to bring him in a leading group with Casar and Danielson. Contador and Schleck made no indication to go after him..I became really nervous at this point!

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/4-9.jpg
Danielson was the first one, passing the last KoM competition of today´s stage. He was the current leader of this race

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/5-8.jpg
The first chasing group of Danielson, with Monfort, Kiryienka and Moinard, was just a few seconds behind

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/6-6.jpg
Andy Schleck and the man in yellow Alberto Contador were still in the pack with more than 2 minutes behind Monfort!!!!!! That means: Monfort was in yellow at this point!

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/7-5.jpg
The group with Monfort was able to catch Danielson in the last 4000 metres. And then we´ve got unbelievable news from behind....there was something going on in the pack which brought us in a position, we´ve never dreamed about

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/8-5.jpg
Andy Schleck was in front of the pack, sprinting for reducing the gap to Monfort...but where the hell was Contador?

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/9-6.jpg
Incredible..just incredible! Contador, Menchov and even Samuel Sanchez were down! Menchov couldn´t continue..he was injured badly. But Contador lost many minutes in these moments, just like Sanchez!

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/10-3.jpg
The leading group reached the stage finish! We decided that Monfort was not sprinting for the stage win, as he already won many stages so Kiryienka was the lucky one today. Danielson and Monfort complete the podium. So the question is: Where is Schleck and how many seconds did he loose to Monfort. The same counts for Contador

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/11-3.jpg
Schleck adduces the pack with 57 seconds to Monfort! That means Monfort passed him in the overall...

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/12-3.jpg
The man in yellow and Sanchez came with more than 2 minutes and 20 seconds behind Monfort! And I think you all know what that means? Maxime Monfort is the new leader of the Tour de France 2010! What a stage! It´s a pity for Contador, loosing his jersey on this way. We weren´t really happy about that but we couldn´t change it. In the end, there were some bad news for Columbia, as Renshaw Grabsch and Mark Cavendish were not able to reach the finish inside the given time

Yeah, as Monfort is a great time trialist and in this shape he should be able to defend his jersey on the Tourmalet. You´re right, it would be incredible

janne_837
Amazing result Smile Congrats. Now Maxime have to defend the leader jersey on the Tourmalet, then he has a good chance to win here Wink

I really hope that you can win this tour with Monfort. It would be unbelievable.

This story is awesome.

OK! We´re in yellow and that´s no joke or something like that. Today is the last stage with a mountain arrival. Monfort has to stay with Schleck and Contador and then....we might have the biggest chance to win the Tour after the time trial

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/2-11.jpg
After his terrible crash yesterday, Alberto Contador was the first one, attacking on the Tourmalet. Only Leipheimer made an earlier move

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/3-10.jpg
Not really important but Basso was the first one, going after Contador

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/4-10.jpg
Andy Schleck is our man and when he went after Alberto, Monfort made his move! Now we just had to stay with them with more than 5 kilometres to go

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/5-9.jpg
Alberto Contador was in front of Schleck and Monfort. Our goal was to stay with Schleck but we still had to look after Contador and his gap to us. At the moment we were 35 seconds behind him

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/6-8.jpg
Alberto Contador..the unluckiest man on the planet right now! Without this crash yesterday, he would dominate the peloton but now he had to gain many seconds back to Schleck and especially Monfort

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/7-7.jpg
Contador takes the stage win but how many seconds he got back to Monfort and Schleck?

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/8-6.jpg
Monfort even passed Schleck on the last metres.. gaining 10 seconds to Schleck..but Andy lost 39 seconds to Contador which means both of them have the same time in the overall. They are 44 seconds behind Monfort

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/9-7.jpg
Good result for Leipheimer, finishing on the 4th position. RadioShack had also bad luck with the injury of Armstrong in the beginning of this Tour

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/10-4.jpg
Monfort´s biggest help was Michael Rogers and he deserves to finish on position 7 at the Tourmalet really much! Great result for him in the end. Thanks to Rogers

Great stage. Hope the 44s will be enough on the final stages.

I do not know this variant, will we see a time trial at the last stages? Great performance by Rogers and espescially Monfort,, if there is not a time trial, the "Maillot Jaune" is already save Smile

I think it´s Tour de France 2010...

Shock Sorry, my fault. Then there will be a time trail at stage 20, hopefully Maxime can hold the leader jersey...

Exactly there´s a long time trial at stage 20, stage 19 and of course stage 21 are flat Wink

Well, the Tour is over! At least for me Smile I know already who is the winner..so I really hope you will enjoy the last 3 stages. The only thing I can say is: If there was someone, thinking the Tour is almost over after the Tourmalet, I have to say: NO! There were still some strange and dramatical events Wink
So looking forward to see that

Can't wait! I'd say good luck, but if you've already played the stages you don't need it. Wink Your so close!

Wow! After hard days in the mountains, we´re back in the valley. Well, we lost Cavendish and Renshaw so we´re not interested in this stage. The only important thing is to defend the leader´s jersey

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/2-12.jpg
As we expected, a big breakaway was built in the beginning. Remy Cusin was the fastest there. He could celebrate an amazing stage win in France for Cofidis! Ivanov and Paulinho managed to get at least a place on the podium

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/3-11.jpg
Behind them in the pack something dramatically happened! As Monfort was far in front in the pack with his protector Michael Rogers, Andy Schleck and Contador were sleeping! Because of the strong wind and the terrible speed, the whole peloton was divided up into many groups. Schleck and Contador were in one of those groups and they lost important seconds to Monfort, who did a perfect job again

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/Columbia/4-11.jpg
The ´real peloton´at least a small part of that, passing the finish line with Monfort! Schleck and Contador had another horrible day, loosing unbelievable 1 minute and 59 seconds to Maxime Monfort! What´s going on here!?
It seems like they want to donate Monfort the Tour victory
