ride outside
I took this during my ride today. What are the conditions for everybody else like. Usually in the mornings it is arm warmers leg warmers and maybe a vest if it is chilly. Today I rode around noon so I only had an under shirt on other than the shorts and jersey.
Issue isn't cold, its light. I can only ride outside Sunday mornings (I'm going for a ride in around an hour), but other than that I'm too restricted by work and school to get rides in before the sun goes down. |

Ride? 3 1/2 hours in it.
Feeling? Surprisingly happy. |

Levi's Gran Fondo registration opened a few days ago, by now it's probably full though. A nice video is on the front page which kinda gives you an idea of what it was like. I am also in it, for about 2 seconds.
About 4:15 in is the start of the descent of myers grade, which is the coolest road I can think of.

I have the wonders of riding in my garage at the moment due to ice and snow. If anyone cares to try for a 15 hour week sat in a garage, be my guest, but it isn't fun. Luckily I'm going on the rule of thumb of every time slot you do on a turbo equates to 1.5X riding outside - due to no freewheeling/descending/etc. So I only actually have to do 10 hours in the garage! Whoo. 5 days of 2 hours of turbo. Amazing fun! Whoo!

That is the nice thing about riding inside, sometimes I like putting in movies. I can put away 2 hours pretty easy. |

It wouldn't be so bad with gears, you can change it about a bit. But I'm on a single speed, so the choice is "too easy", where I'm spinning like a mad man, or "slightly hard" which is ok for the first hour or so, but pain for the last hour! Still, it'll make me strong!
I'm mixing up the training tomorrow by doing a 3 hour hike. Yes, I'm that bored!

Pretty easy for me, I read during the week and watch Football games over the weekend (if, like this previous weekend, its impossible to ride) |

Recently finished all my pre-season lab tests to get all my baselines to set up a training plan for next season! Thought you guys might be curious how I did and I was also wondering if anyone who knew more about these numbers could tell me how the compare to different level riders. (It was indoors on an ergometer, so the numbers don't transfer directly to the road).
Anyway, here they are, keep in mind I'm 17 and I've only been racing for around 1.5 years and training seriously for 1 year and haven't ridden for a few months in all honesty lol.
Age: 17
Height - 6'1" (185cm?)
Weight - 73kg
Body Fat % - 5.8%
VO2 Test:
VO2 Max - 62
Power @ Exhaustion - 375W
Wingate Test:
Peak Power: 2185W
Average Power: 1132W
Peak Cadence: 200rpm
I imagine everything would be up about 10% and the weight down about 2kg in-season and better yet at my peak fitness level.
Again, if anyone knows what different level riders can do on an ergometer test, I'd be interested to know, because right now, these numbers don't have much significance to me because they're only really comparable to other tests done on such an ergometer.
Thanks,
Shifty

For those of you who are building a bike for next season, like me, and are looking for an alternative to companies like Easton, Ritchey, 3t etc etc etc I suggest VCRC.
https://www.velocarbon.com/index.html
The quality of the products is amazing, the preformance is amazing, and because they only sell direct the price is amazing. I would definitely recommend the Handlebar/stem combo. It's not for weight weenies(but lets be honest the difference is 50-60 grams) but they are stiff and comfortable.

I have been testing riders left, right, and centre, for my dissertation recently, and I can say now that an Elite rider, who rides Premier Calender races here in the UK (so at/just below .NC classification as a UCI race - unless of course we talk about the Melton CiCle Classic, which is a 1.1 race), got a VO2 max of 70ml.kg.min, he weighs 82.4 kg and is 180cm tall.
He knows he's overweight, but has only just started his winter training - he's done one "bout" (3 weeks on, 1 off, with 8, 10 and 12 hours done).
He got to 470 watts. I expect him to get to about 550-580 watts during the season.
So compare yourself as you will, but he's been riding all his life (about 20 years of riding that is), so has a bit of a headstart on you!

Going to be my first time I'll be climbing something more then just a bridge Can't wait for it really.

Yeah, can't wait to get back out either.
I don't have winter clothing though, so for me 10 - 15 degrees are needed
Oh, and about the AGR tourversion; I just read all 12 000 places where full within 30 minutes Lucky I got through right away |

Training began today, it also ended my season as well. Broken elbow = 12 weeks out.
Cars have hit me twice since July, I've been in two car crashes since July, and now a broken elbow. I'm seriously considering crying a lot soon.

Woah. You're really having a lot of bad luck.
Or Uri Geller just hates you? |

Uri Geller is a crazy guy who's said to have mental powers. He can bend a spoon by just looking at it.
Or at least, thats what he wants everybody to believe. |
