I'm with Shonak there. You may not have all your life to win Le Tour, but this definitely won't be your last opportunity, anyway. Becca however might not be there for too long. Think about it.

Terrible news. Hope this will be one of the times where the doctors are wrong and something suddenly works. Doesn't sound like it though
It will be understandeable if he can't perform on his regular level in the Tour, but hopefully he'll be able to bring Becca a yellow jersey

Why do people always have to die in your stories?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Hold on... no one has died yet. But it doesn't look good.
It does remind me, in my story, when there was a huge coach crash in the tdf resulting in the loss of many lives: #595.
Still we have to look to the positives. Henry takes the RR title, but how were the rest given the same time based on that screenshot (That is weird even for PCM)?!? |

Wow, that's terrible news. Hopefully Henry takes good care of her and maybe he can win the tour to make her proud! Good luck! |

Mresuperstar - It seems Henry is experiencing some of that Travis-luck right now
Jeselyh - Yeah, I didn't expect that to be so easy. I guess the race being classified as flat made it easy to breakaway.
Shonak - It's the worst possible disease for sure. I knew someone close irl who has it and was told she had 1 year to live. We're now 10 years later but it's a horrible thing and it spreads through your entire body.
I get your take on the Tour. But I'm not sure Henry will dare to go against Becca. It's a tough call.
Dippofix - Very true. And indeed Henry's still quite young and will have other chances..
Atlantius - That's the hope. Maybe the anger inside of him of what's happening will drive him to conquer all!
Ollfardh - I'm not sure. I guess because I want my stories to feel real, and death is certainly a big part of life.
The Rider - That time "difference" is a question mark for me, too. Definitely something mysterious going on here.
24sebaf1 - You're right about that. Big things are happening right now.
FonsDeSpons - I'll try, thanks
Neillster - Then you better hold on to your seats, because I'm not entirely done yet, in the story
sutty68 - That's a nice picture for the events. Thanks
welker3257 - Will do!
Glad to see so many reactions to this
I hope to bring another update tonight! |

Hey there,
I've thought about it a lot these last few days. The day before the Tour, however, Becca looked better than she had in weeks. She was quite cheerful and we had a nice romantic evening, actually. She told me to go to the Tour. It hurts to leave her behind for 3 weeks, though. I nearly didn't go. But here I am, at the Tour.
This Tour will be quite different. Because of some political problems (I can't be bothered), some American teams didn't start. The result is a much smaller peloton, which is actually to everyone's advantage. With the first stage ending on a smaller road, this will help in decreasing the crashes!
Anyway, with Celesio having a German base since the start of the season, we were spared of those problems. We were starting, and I hope to get my second Tour de France victory!
Who's here? A lot of competition: Valverde, Costa, Quintana, Froome, Contador, Van Den Broeck, Nibali, Henao, Porte... Even De Gendt could be competition.
Tour de France - Stage 1 A first stage to dream about for some. No time trial so more riders have a chance to grab a Maillot Jaune here. But then they'd have to go through me! I'm not afraid to grab yellow early on. We have the team to hold it.
The Race Stybar is full of energy, always. He releaved a bit of that energy by going into the attack today.
At first, the peloton let the breakaway go. They got over 9 minutes max.
But then we took control of the pack, despite having a rider in the breakaway. In the end, he was surrounded by some strong punchers so the team had more confidence in me.
Then we hit the final climb. I attacked at once! I felt like a bird recently let free, having been away from cycling so long. Finally I had my wings back.
And this bird likes to fly. This time I did celebrate! This is for Becca!
The results are a bit messed up and I can't find a good result anywhere on the internet. I'll look a bit further in a moment and get back to you!
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night
In a way, this song (by The Beatles, of course) represents best how I feel at the moment. The past few months have been so hard, on Becca, on the kids, on our families, on me. There was some laughter and good times, but mostly it was grim and dark. Don't get me wrong, taking care of Becca is nothing I regret at all. But as a cyclist, in a way I was caged. Today I felt free again.
I'll call Becca after I post this on the blog. I think she'll be proud, I hope she saw me on the television. She asked me to bring back a Maillot Jaune and that's exactly what I'll do for her!

It's a very good way to start le Tour despite all the hurt. Winning today and getting the maillot jaune will hopefully help Becca's mind a bit.

anderspcm - Seems pretty invincible in this jersey indeed. Winning wherever he wants.
sutty68 - Of course!
welker3257 - There's no better start to it.
Atlantius - One of my favorite, too. Love to play it on the guitar, too.
Jakstar22 - Just what she needs now, I reckon.
Shonak - I agree. In all the darkness, there's a little light! Unless... |
