Qatar Optics - Duvel 2021: Story Completed
Shonak
13 seconds between 4 riders. This must be the closest damn Grand Tour ever. Of course it won't stay that way, I suppose the last stage will make sure of that - or maybe it won't. But the way to Paris sure is quite intense. Poor Sicard though. Maybe on the next two days he will have more luck for an successfull escape attempt. Only 85 riders left, jeez.

7h or 9th doesn't make a big difference.

Seems Piont is tirering. Final win should thus be for Elissonde!Shock

The Rider
All -Unfortunately the last stage Time trial, although it looked very nice going through the velodrome, had a huge stage making error in it. The error being all of the riders disappeared with 11 kilometres to go.... This meant it screwed up everything and Roger Bruyere was handed the yellow jersey!!!!!

So I had to load a weekly stage and redo the last 3 stages, hence why the STAGE 19 report has vanished.

Elissonde wins back to back TDF's... Quite a disappointing TDF for us after two GT podiums previously and as we were supposed to be at the peak of our powers.

All -- There were no changes thanks to the simulations other than:. Sicard finishing 2 places higher in GC and Pinot loosing huge amounts of time on stage 20 also Feillu didn't abandon after stage 20 with a fractured kneecap!

Lars Boom winning on L'Alpe d'Huez. Still a good seventh place for Sicard. And of course wearing the yellow jersey for a week is a nice result, although I missed a stage win this year.

Oh man... stupid PCM! Such a shame a great report can't be finished in a worthy way. I totally get your sentiment of not wanting to play these stages again.
I think Elissone would have won either way ahead of Salas. Andy Schleck certainly profited from the unfortunate circumstances, taking a huge leap forward. And Duarte completely blew up... like, really blew up. Going from 2nd to 8th, woah.
At least Sicard improved a bit and I think 7th is quite good, considering how ridiculously tough this Tour de France has been, and the competition was far away from being easy or ncie to Sicard. Still the team was probably expecting more. Going into the finale week, Sicard's form just wasn't up to it, I suppose. Better luck next year. Thomas de Gendt 25th is nice too. And yes, one week yellow jersey plus a new sponsor on board: I think the team has definitely shown a good performance and deserve some rest now. Smile

RACE: Les Herbiers - Les Herbiers 47 KM's

For the third successive year the Chrono des Nations was raced in a different month of the year. In his first race in over a month our best hope was WTT champ Kritskiy . He finished a respectable fourth. No doubt the lack of form and training costing him and he builds towards the Vuelta and world champs.

The win went to the prologue specialist, Houanard, who proved he can also ride the longer distances well. He denies our Russian a space near the top for yet another time.

Over the few years with Qatar Optics I have saved up quite a small fortune and rather than let the money settle I have been investing it in real estate all around the middle east region. A region which is increasingly less hostile.

The team, with a restrictive budget, have also been making calculated transactions. For next season we have signed Bole who currently leads the CT rankings, with a hatful of victories and a 6th place in Milan San Remo, ahead of Ponzi and the veteran, Gio Visconti. Quite a signing.

End of July:

After a few barren months our continental team were out in action at Qinghai lake. My son, Eddie, was in action as was Bahari and Akake. But the most impressive there was Al Sahaf. The Qatari has been rewarded with a contract with Qatar Optics - Duvel for next season.

sutty - Yeah. In the race where everyone seems to be +5 in stats.

@ Shonak No doubt about the winner. As he is soo good I doubt any team will offer him a contract (fingers crossed), same goes for Pinot, as they will be ultra expensive.

@ MrUFo87 - That's PCM!!! Smile

Grega Bole is a good signing although a little bit old Frown

Shonak
Nice to see that Qatar Optics is pulling their talents up to the World Tour level. Hopefully Al Sahaf will perform and develop well. Smile

How do you manage the farm team, via the editor?

A pitty for the end of TdF, but it did not change that much the overall result.
Great back to back wins for the Frenchman Wink

And good result for Sicard too.

Disapointing Chrono des Nations for the Russian.

And cool to have a qatari recruit for next year Grin

With world champion Vanendert, Gallopin, Duran and Cartillo in our squad we bring strength in depth to the Eneco, however, we expect very little as no one is in shape. This race is to be used as prep for the upcoming Vuelta where we have high hopes for Izagirre and Duran.... as long as Pinot doesn't turn up on the start line again!

French champ, Roux, takes the win in great style. He is one of the more well liked guys in the peloton. The best of our riders were '30 down but Duran does look in decent shape after a long rest, a good sign perhaps?

Slovak Sagan is just too good it seems and takes a second stage win which sees him leapfrog Roux into the GC lead. The highlights on the stage were bizarrely Duarte attacking on the flat run in and a large crash towards the finish. Duran thankfully missed the crash which would have hindered his build up to the Vuelta.

Wong was the first to crash, early on, and we withdrew him from the race after he was the first dropped. He has had a hard season and we wish him luck in finding a new team.

The attraction of Duvel as a sponsor next season is already being felt. The team has secured the contract of the Kermiscross world champ, Baeyens. He has never ridden for a road team and I am excited about working with the 'wild warlock'.

Jarne Baeyens:

@ sutty68 You are never too old. You only suffer from cellular senescence which usually comes with ageing. Wink

@ shonak - I just set up a team, added some riders and left it. Smile

@ duxili - More Qataris are always welcome. Smile

Utter Sagan domination. Frown

That Baeyns sure looks like wild warlock. Awesome! Could be a true fan-magnet for Qatar Optics in Belgium once he establishes himself. Good talent too obviously, quite some descent stats already. Cool

He looks a lot of fun Pfft

Also, Sagan wreaking havoc once again.

Jarne Baeyens looks like he will be a good addition as long as he gets used to riding on the road Wink

duxili
Waiting for the Enco "hard days", I am impressed by the "wild warlock", hope he can ride as good as he looks!

STAGE 4: Heers - Andenne 188 KM's

Stage Favourites:
***Battaglin(BSC) **Uran(RBA) (Slagter(RAB)

The hardest stage of the Eneco Tour. The stage is littered with many hills which will really sap the energy.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/1_zps596f765a.jpg

Uran takes the win. The punchy Colombian attacked 10 kilometres from the finish and recovered enough to beat the break he joined in the sprint. When attacking Uran even managed to distance the TDF winner. A late surge from Sagan ensure the GC men finished at the same time. Vanendert finished in the lead group and was our best rider despite trying to get into the break of the day.
