Just did half the 20th stage of the 2013 Tour on PCM for the first time. I jumped from 2011 to 2013 so the changes are completely new to me. First impressions:

- At the moment I can't stand the fact that they removed the "action-panel" from 2011 and instead gave each rider his own.
- It's to hard to see what each rider is doing (relaying, dotting, staying in position, etc.).
- It seemed difficult to keep controll of everybody, people where dropping out of the pack without me having a clue.

All in all it seems good, I can run it on the highest settings (YAAAAAAAY), but it's going to take a long, long time for me to get used to the new in-game interface.
There's a fine line between "psychotherapist" and "psycho the rapist"

- You know there is a button for this?
First column last button I think
Then a pop-up should come up with a column to drag how much bigger you want to have the UI.

- If they have no yellow bar they will drop out as they can't keep the pace up because they are bonking but I guess you also know that so:

I think "holding position in the peloton" is not that good now.
It was usable in PCM06 etc. but now I think even with 99 and holding position in the peloton they are often too far behind and sometimes even falling out for no reason.

So I prefer everyone setting to short relaying (makes sure they will stay in the first 1/4 of the peloton) to a very low percentage. Around 5 so they won't relay at all.
But the downside is that this will drain the riders a bit out as they are now in the wind (some riders yes, some riders not)

Finally got around to installing the game yesterday. My first impressions:

Graphics and interface are excellent.

I have tried a few stage races and individual stages, and the Paris-Tours Classic.

Paris Tours was won by a breakaway of 2 riders. Not sure if that result is normal or not. But all flat stages of stage races have been won by mass sprint, so this seems to be working fine, no breakaway bug seen on flat stages, as has been reported in other topics.

I'm not sure what it means when the effort number next to the rider blinks red. Does this mean he is riding too slow for the group of riders he's in? I always try upping the pace when I see this as I assume this is what it means.

Also, when I have a rider in the break it seems that my Team Leader and a few other riders always get dropped from the peloton very late in the stage if it is a flat stage. I had to get around this by increasing their effort in the final few kms, even though I was trying to stay back and not help chase down the break. It just seems to me that your riders in the peloton have to go hard later in the stage if the break is being chased down on a flat stage otherwise they will lose time to the sprinters and the rest of the peloton at the end. But this only seems to happen on flat stages, only when my team is together and has no need to chase down the break. But then, I guess this is normal, as the leading teams tend to dictate the pace in the peloton.

All in all a very fun and enjoyable game to play, apart from a bug here and there.

If the effort number blinks red, it means that the number is too low and that he will not be able to follow the pace of the group or peloton. If you don't change the number, he will slowly fall back. This might be a desired behavior in the first part of the race. In mountain stages, you can use it to make your sprinters fall back and save energy for the next stage rather then staying in the peloton for as long as possible.

As you noticed, you have to set the effort high enough to make sure that your general classification riders stay in the peloton. Another option is to use the "dot", this allows you to set the effort exactly, so you can define the riding speed and position in the peloton.

Just got the game yesterday. Only played a couple of stages but it looks much better than last years.

Some things that I don't line, but we're also in last years version:
- the icons on the right are too small and fiddly
- I don't like not being able to move around the boxes like time gap and stats
- getting blocked in behind riders, in real life you can go fast around the outside if you need too

Still a great game though

Yes, the blocking can be annoying. It took my helper 50km to bring the water once.

But if you look ahead and keep your important riders at the front, it should be possible to avoid been blocked.

But it forces me to pause often to set the effort of the important riders within reasonable time/distance and therefore slows down the game play. And if I don't do it my helper could be 1km behind in only 20 sec. Sometimes I do a Porte with him in such cases (TdF reference: stage 9).

But some stages have very narrow roads and if you don't play attention, you can lose 5 minutes on a 5km climb. In the Istrian tour, I had the yellow jersey and my riders where pacing in front. 25km to the finish line, the gap to the break was down to about 1 minute. Shortly before the penultimate hill, the AI riders took over. But the climb was on a narrow road and the AI slowed down. On top of that hill, the peloton was 5 minutes behind. (I was able to gain back 4 minutes in the last 20km but I doubt you could do that when playing on hard or extreme or whatever it is called.)

Edit:
I have a question. Where are the recuperation camps in PCM 13. If I remember correctly, there was a e-mail in the game telling me to use them to lower the fatigue.

Any word on the new patch? That WC bug should really be fixed...

Searching the forums of the official site but all that French Pfft

roturn
They said some days ago that the patch was supposed to come within the week...if I understood that correct, then the announced week was the last one. Wink

But maybe they also meant this week now. I at least hope so even though I won`t be able to really start playing single player before September...

Yeah, thanks for clearing that up Lachi.

I also figured out that the little white bar above the number represents where the rider sits in that group he is in. Top being at the front of group, bottom at the back of group, middle in the middle of the group. It has made the management of where my riders are at any time more easy if I'm focusing on a group ahead or behind. I played a couple of stages of Paris-Nice last night and it worked - all my riders finished in the peloton, except for one rider in the break who got away and finsihed 3rd. The dot makes it easier to move riders up from back to midlle or from middle to front of a group. and towards the end of a stage, maximum effort with the dot setting has helped me keep all my riders from falling off the pace of the peloton.

I also just figured out that level 1 fitness is the highest. Originally I thought level 1 was the lowest, and I was wondering my riders were tiring so fast in the latter part of stage races when I selected all the riders who started on fitness levels of 3 and 4.

On many interfaces, the fitness is displayed as words (good, bad, ...) so it is hard to misunderstand that. But anyway, it is not forbidden to read the manual and/or the online guide

Regarding the position of your riders. Press Backspace to re-order the rider bars (the bars at the left of the screen) based on the current position in the race.

So I started a new Career with Radioshack - Leopard.
Unfortunately, Frank Schleck is not allowed to race any race - I guess this has smth to do with his one year banishment.
Any ideas how to delete this banishment? I need him for Giro and Tdf Grin

If you download an Editor from this site (Full Editor/Fast Editor...) you can erase this "illness" quite easily.

I agree with you guys... Blocking is easily the most annoying part of the game and the major issue to be fixed imo. I'm usually really careful to keep my riders up front but sometimes my riders even get blocked in 10th position or so when I wanna attack on a hill or mountain. To have your attack blocked for 1 km on a 2 km hill can really ruin the stage easily...

Lachi
I am pretty sure that it is not considered a problem by Cyanide.

And isn't it a laugh when your rider accelerates like a slingshot once the blocking is gone. Wink

Ian Butler
Try to use as much stages created by community members, they usually make sure the routes have wide roads Wink

haha yeah! It kinda reminds of horse racing when they're out of the blocks

So the stages are by the community, the databases are by the community, the jerseys are by the community, the editors.... you know where I'm getting at..Wink

What does Cyanide again?Pfft
