Indeed not the luckiest day on the mountain stage.
Hope you can somehow enter the top10 in the last stages.
At least you got some decent results with the two breakaways.
And Dekker`s gap surely should have been counted. Bad luck.

Well I will start from positives ( actually it will be all positives for a great story ). Amazing story Dienblad, again have a lot to catch up.... 53 pages, that's one hell of long story. Well done
So unlucky with Dekker today, but as the guys above say, keep fighting on, good times will come
Love the jersey btw

The last stage of this year's Volta a Catalunya is from Sant Cugat del Valles to Montmélo. It's flat, except for one climb of the Montjuic, the Olympic mountain. So, a sprint?
As nothing interesting happens in the entire stage (okay, a group of 13 gets a few minutes, but get caught way before the finish), we go immediately to the finish. We try to get Marcel Kittel in a good sprinting position. but after he managed to get in the back wheel of Denis Galimzyanov, he suddenly lost contact and got dropped to a place somewhere in the middle of the peloton. So no chance for us today.
Team Qantas manages to set up a perfect train, with Daryl Impey as a leadout for Robbie McEwen. And the 39-year-old Aussie finishes it perfectly. Kenny Dehaes (Lotto) gets 2nd, Aitor Galdos (Caja Rural) 3rd.

This wasn't a good Volta for us, looking at the GC. We hoped for a top 5-place for Dekker, so place 13 is disappointing. Dumoulin and Ruijgh had good stages, being in a breakaway that made it to the finish. And Ruijgh saved our Volta with the KOTM-jersey! Let's forget this one, now the cobbles!

@ alakagom: Thank you!! At least, you didn't get bored today after reading my entire story
I've already played the Critérium International (with some pretty good results) and 3 cobbled classics (Dwars Door Vlaanderen, E3-Prijs and Gent-Wevelgem). So the next days, you can expect some more reports!

Dwars Door Vlaanderen is the traditional opener of the Flamish cycling week, followed by E3-prijs, Gent - Wevelgem, Driedaagse De Panne - Koksijde and of course the Ronde van Vlaanderen. It's the 67th edition, and 50 of them were wn by a Belgian rider. No one in history has won the race three times. Of the presenting riders, only An Post's Nico Eeckhout has won the race twice.
In 2011, BMC's Marcus Burghardt became the 2nd German rider (after Olaf Ludwig in 1992) to win the race. He rode a 100km-solo all the way to the finish.
The route is 201 kilometres long, with the start in Roeselaere and the finish in Waregem. In between, the riders have to climb 12 hills, 6 of them cobbled and all in the last half of the race.

Our team
The favourites
*** Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma), Matti Breschel (Rabobank), Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky)
** Sylvain Chavanel (Garmin), Niki Terpstra , Geraint Thomas (Sky)
* Martijn Maaskant , Johan Vansummeren (Garmin), Gert Steegmans (Omega Pharma)
Our goal
We aim for a top 5.
After an early breakaway-group, Leonardo Duque (Sny Ericsson) and Kevin Hulsmans (Cofidis) are the last 2 remaining members of it. But with 62 km to go, they also get caught by a first peloton of only 26 riders. In it are Terpstra, Vanmarcke, Maaskant and Rosseler , 4 riders from Rabo, 1 from Rabo Continental, 2 from BMC, 2 from Omega Pharma, 2 from Garmin, 2 from Landbouwkrediet and the complete Sky-team (6 riders). The first hills have caused some serious gaps!
Team Sky is doing the pace in the first group. In the ascend of the Oude Kwaremont, 35 kilometres before the finish, only 23 riders are able to stay in this group.
The same in the ascend of the Patersberg, with the summit only 31 kilometres from Waregem. No attacks out of the group, as the pace is way too high to even think about trying.
And then we see why Team Sky was doing the pace: Juan Antonio Flecha attacks on the penultimate cobbled section. There are 24 kilometres to go. 2 riders counterattack: Sylvain Chavanel and his former team mate Tom Boonen. In the chasing group, the Rabobank-riders settle themselves in the lead to chase the 3.
And with success, as the 2 groups regroup 10 kilometres later. Only 2 of our riders are present in the leading group of 14: Niki Terpstra and Martijn Maaskant . They have a quick chat and Terpstra decides to give up his chances as his legs don't feel all right today. He tries to keep the pace up high in the ascend of the last climb of the day, the Nokereberg.
At the summit of the climb, 6 kilometres before the finish in Waregem, Tom Boonen attacks. Terpstra tries to follow him, but his legs are protesting and he has to let Boonen go.
Boonen, the winner of the race in 2007, creates a big gap and with 2 kilometres to go, he leads with 34 seconds.
So the 3rd cobbled classic of the year goes to Tom Boonen, who also won Omloop Het Nieuwsblad en Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne. Last year he only won 1 stage in the Tour Down Under, so this season is already way better for him!
The sprint for the 2nd place has started, and it is easily won by Matti Breschel. Our 2 guys did an incredible job, and took the last 2 places of the group (13th and 14th).....

The fact that we had 2 riders in the group of 14 was a good achievement. But that everybody in it outsprinted us was strange. We must improve this for the following classics!

Traditionally, the E3-prijs is the first of 2 back-to-back classics on the Belgium Cobbles. In contrary to tomorrow's Gent - Wevelgem, the race isn't a World Tour race, but a 1.HC-race. Nevertheless, there have been many great winners in the previous 54 edition. Rik van Looy and Tom Boonen are the record holders with 4 wins. And of course, Tommeke is looking for his 5th win in this great form!
Last year's race was won by Fabian Cancellara, after a late attack.
The 200 kilometre route consists of 12 hills, including the Taaienberg, Patersberg, Kwaremont and finally the Tiegemberg. After that one, 20 kilometres remain to the finish in Harelbeke.

We start the report of the E3-Prijs with a screenshot of the BOTD. A very strong 4 man-group, with 2 Belgian and 2 Dutch riders in it, has already started the 2nd hill zone, climbing the Kapelberg. Dennis van Winden (Rabobank),Kevin Hulsmans (Cofidis), Staf Scheirlinckx (Lotto) and Jetse Bol (Rabo CT) create a gap of over 4 minutes.
The chasing group is smaller than expected. Only 15 riders are in it, including Niki Terpstra, Martijn Maaskant, Lieuwe Westra & Sep Vanmarcke , Stijn Devolder (Vacansoleil), Gert Steegmans & Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma), Johan Vansummeren (Garmin), Fabian Cancellara (Nissan), Alessandro Ballan (BMC) and Philippe Gilbert (Lotto). The biggest names missing are Thor Hushovd & Bjorn Leukemans (BMC) and Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky). 37 kilometres before the finish, this group is 2'33 behind the leaders. The group Sky, with Flecha and most of his domestiques is one more minute behind. Flecha got surprised in a climb, being to far in the back of the peloton!
With about 22 kilometres to go, the leading group has almost been caught. '22 behind them follows a threesome with Gilbert, Cancellara and Ballan. At '37 follows a group with Omega Pharma in the lead, and also Terpstra & Maaskant in it.
The three groups merge in the last 10 kilometres, so a group of 12 riders will battle for the win.
The sprint has started and Vansummeren, Cancellara and Ballan are in the lead. Behind them is Tom Boonen, looking for his 5th win. Martijn Maaskant is in 6th place, and looks to finish in the top 10.
And who else than Boonen wins the E3-prijs, already his 4th Belgium classic this year and he become the new record holder with 5 wins in the E3-Prijs. Alesandro Ballan takes the 2nd place, followed by Johan Vansummeren.
And what about Maaskant ? Okay, he got outsprinted by Gilbert, Scheirlinckx & Hulsmans (the last 2 after being in the attack all day..), but finishes in front of Bol & Devolder in 9th place. So we achieved our personal goal!

Word from the DS
We certainly improved! It's a good thing that Maaskant and Terpstra can follow the best cobbled classics-riders (Cancellara, Boonen), but infortunately they seem to lack the sprinting abilities.
