EPIC - Season 1 Part 3
knockout
Obviously, this race found his way to the right reporter. Excellent preview there.

These are pretty much our ambitions:
(from our HQ)

But obviously, this isnt the only goal they have set. The two other goals are way harder though. They did great in the mountains so far. Now it is time for them to prove that the other terrains aren't their weaknesses. There were some critics that the team lacks big engines on the flat races. The team aims to get a rider into the top 150 in the Vattenfall Cyclassic. When we asked we got this information: "Any expert can tell you that we arent belong the top favourites so we would be satisfied with a top 150."

A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

So much for Viviani's chances of getting a good result here. Smile

@all: Thanks for the kind words. Smile

@knockout: It's the only German WT race (as I said 3 times or so...) There's nothing bigger for me than that. I really wait for the new WT calendar with Bayern Rundfahrt as WT.2, Germany is so underrepresented. Wink

So true that last part.

Great preview! Even if the race gets not even closely that great, it's still great. Grin

Oh, you Germans Pfft

You have this one, Bayern, Koln and Frankfurt, that really should be enough Pfft
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

These are all our UCI races (except Münsterland Giro and Velothon Berlin). You Belgians have like 100? Pfft (Same for Italy, France, Spain and even Switzerland has more..)

Another 6-man break. This time with Avery (CSS), Dion (BSE), Valencia (COL), Delfosse (CRE), De Msmaeker (TNN) and Clarke (UHC).
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/EPIC/EP-USA-7-3_zps55642aaf.jpg
Valencia is currently 3rd in the KOM competition and goes all in for getting that 2nd place as the only thing that can deny Champion Systems the jersey is a crash forcing Friedemann out of the race.

The break has 4’36 on the top of Lookout Mountain.

80 km and 4’49
70 km and 3’49
60 km and 3’04
50 km and 2’41
40 km and 2’03

Europcar is putting in some massive work to defend Kim’s podium spot.

30 km and 1’26
25 km and 1’17
20 km and 57 seconds
15 km and 50 seconds
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/EPIC/EP-USA-7-5_zps093fb45c.jpg
The break is working nicely together while Saxo and Topsport have taken over behind.
10 km and 37 seconds

5 km. A gap still remains and the peloton are starting to look at each other instead of the task ahead once again.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/EPIC/EP-USA-7-7_zpsa7a3382e.jpg
With 3 km to go Topsport Vlaanderen blasts past the break with Argos for Sinkeldam and Saxo for McDermott following.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/EPIC/EP-USA-7-8_zps0627e509.jpg
Arndt is first into the final km leading out Sinkeldam while Miyazawa once again manages to lose McDermott in a series of fast turns in between the other riders.
Almost a miracle that he didn’t cause anyone to crash!
Van Stayen is looking strong on the other side of the road.

An untraditional leadout leaving the designated main sprinter without a chance!

Me too...

A lineup with those time differences really should have made it a proper race instead of this crap Angry

Looking at next planned report and thinking hmm....

Yeah, boring race but it was good for us. Too many races and not enough racedays was always going to bring races like this towards the end of the season, in the CT at least.

Sorry this won't get a big report, seem to have had problems with screenshots but it's wasnt particular exciting

The Race

i57.tinypic.com/53mz5i.jpg

Zabriskie, Garmin was the first rider to finish, being a solid time trialler he sets the benchmark early. His time is 1h17'01"

i59.tinypic.com/9bivte.jpg

But his time is quickly beaten by Orica's Svein who goes onto top spot by 1'09".

i62.tinypic.com/24ovrfd.jpg

i62.tinypic.com/ohj14.jpg

Luke Durbridge and Po-Ding Kim (Sorry about the shot Embarassed ) could only do good enough for 4th and 5th, both setting he same time as Pierre De la Montagne (COF) in 3rd! Silvio Pennarossa sits in 2nd place, a wonderful ride from the EPIC Cannondale rider was only 16 seconds shy off leader Tuft with only one rider to go.

Tuft has lead the time trial for over 90 riders with only one rider to go, Chris Froome of Team Sky...

i58.tinypic.com/o5w4tv.jpg

Froome crosses the line and takes the win! It's a tough defeat for Orica to take after being in first for so long but the Vuelta a Espana winner was always looking to take it as last out.
