Finally a good leadout from OPQS, so happy to see Steegmans back in business
Winners never quit, quitters never win.
It's difficult not to be happy when you're surrounded by Belgians. - Mark Cavendish

Norwegian TV2 has also decided not to show the Giro this year due to bad ratings last year No pink italians for me.

Gavazzi better than expected. I might actually end up being right about him winning a stage this year.
Yes, good performance by him, but he almost took a Garmin rider out (Hunter I think) on his way to that 5th place.
Ah is that what all the handbags from Hunter was about. I need to watch it again. |

Sean Kelly seems to think Gavazzi could be set to receive a sanction from the Commissionaires for that sprint, but that's just Kelly's unofficial opinion. Couldn't have been any worse then Ferrari's stunt last year could it? |

So the instigator of the breakaway today was ... Cavendish https://cameronwurf.blogspot.it/2013/0...y-not.html

Well, Leigh Howard's (OGE) Giro adventure is over for this year after X-Ray scans confirmed a clean break of his collarbone. Unfortunate lad, and now it is going to be even harder to try and beat Cavendish.

Goss has had not luck with leadout men for the Giro. Impey pulled out due to the birth of his child, now Howard. Oh well. |

With a leadout like that from Steegmans, Cav is unbeatable, good win from him. I fancy maybe the first breakaway win today, the course is up and down and ideal for the break to suceed.

Leigh Howard out with broken collarbone, no surgery needed.
Sucks for Goss leadout as Howard's has been in quite good shape so far.

Great little insight, thanks.
This is why I wish they'd televise the break of the day forming live then siesta to another sport before returning for the last 50km+. Never going to happen of course for a whole host of reasons but often there's an interesting aside that we miss. |

Only time I know this to happen is at the Ronde Van Vlaanderen on Sporza. They start broadcasting at 9 o'clock. Previews, start of the race, forming of the break. Then they leave at 10 and return at 12 until 6 pm, lovely day |

So with a little will and a lot of Belgian obsession it is possible |

Reading Wurf's blog explains the death of anyone hitting the front before the last few hundred metres:
"It was a block headwind and we were at 50kmph so I was between 550 and 600watts to keep the pace up." |

I could understand Eurosport for not showing the Giro whilst the snooker-WC was taking place, but now they arn't broadcasting anything of importance!
I don't give a tiny rats ass about it being on Eurosport 2, I don't have that channel!
As I said a few pages back, I believe the official explanation is that it's a "business decision". Probably in an attempt to boost awareness and ratings of Eurosport 2 and eurosport player. |

So for today:
Howard is out, Lodewijck (BMC) is out. [Did not start]
Cattaneo (Lampre) is out after a crash just 3km into the stage...
Tiralongo - after his knee injury - also woke up with a temperature this morning... Bad news for Nibali. |

And a break consisting of Tamouridis, Hansen, Sella, Tjallingii, Rollin and Ligthart

In the balance right now. A lot depends on Vini's strength to bring this back on their home ground. Katusha only with one helping at the moment. |
