PCM rulezz - Thanks, I'll need it!

sutty68 - Indeed, he just lacked the energy for a sprint.

Just wanted to write down a report for the stage, but photobucket is down. I'm afraid it'll have to wait for tomorrow, then. Until then!

Critérium du Dauphiné - Stage 4

Another day in the saddle. Weather predictions: rain, snow at the peak.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/daup01_zps5e35c79c.jpg

The first mountain stage. Actually the first time Willy will climb against the top of the world in similar form.

Stijn Van Gent

Meersman went in the break as soon as authorized. Unfortunately he didn't last very long.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/daup02_zps356de3c3.jpg

I've been given the chance to be a leader at my favorite races and I haven't forgotten that. Today is a day I can give back at the team so I assisted all day long by getting water bottles.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/daup03_zpsb4f77c6f.jpg

I let myself drop out slowly when the last bottle was given to Costa.

Willy Wouters

My day started pretty good, I spend most of my time alongside Rui (Costa). It was important to find out who was the better, with eyes on the Tour!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/daup04_zps9e4af1b5.jpg

I thought my best chance would be to anticipate. I saw a chance to attack and took it.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/daup05_zps3edeb6e5.jpg

But I wish I hadn't. I soon discovered the eagerness of the big guns and their teams. Everyone was looking forward to this day to prove themselves for the Tour. I got caught pretty quickly.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/daup06_zpsd6556576.jpg

Then I took a snap decision. My race was over anyway, so I gave Costa the best help I could and slowly dropped out.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/daup08_zpse655a878.jpg

I got stuck in a group with Carusa and Brambilla. I regained some energy and went solo for the final 3 km.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/daup09_zpsbccaf1f4.jpg

Andy Schleck showed the world he's ready for the Tour! The battle of the stars (Wiggins vs Froome) was won by Froome!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/daup10_zps55a83be1.jpg

I had a more than decent second half of the climb, actually.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/daup11_zps084714c1.jpg

I finished just inside the top 25. But it's happened, I've finally been disillusioned. By winning Tirreno - Adriatico, the weight of the Belgian public has fallen on my shoulders, but I'm not ready for it. I haven't been coping well with all the pressure lately. I will take part in the Tour, not to compete in the GC, but I will just try my best and do what I can. Costa will lead the Tour!

Well, I'll repeat what I said: I've been disillusioned. Costa will lead the Tour De France, I will help him where he needs it and will try to get something myself. But I haven't any special objectives, I just want to ride my first Grand Tour without pressure from anyone.
Willy

PCM rulezz
Costa loses more than 3 minutes Frown I hope it goes better in the tour
Winners never quit, quitters never win.

It's difficult not to be happy when you're surrounded by Belgians. - Mark Cavendish

Ian Butler
PCM rulezz - Hope so, too. Though he didn't have too many races yet, so his fitness can still increase much for the Tour Wink

Ollfardh
Ok, Costa for the Tour, Willy for the Vuelta, it's settled then Wink
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Jakstar22
Well, it will probably be best for Costs to lead anyway. Good luck for the rest of the race

JuanMotr
Come on Willy show you are better than Costa! Grin

sutty68
I think Willy needs to be better at when to launch attacks Wink

Ian Butler
Ollfardh - I think one Grand Tour will be enough for this year Wink

Jakstar22 - Costa has more experience and will be a good leader, thanks!

JuanMotr - Maybe he is, but he lacks experience and a 21-day stage race is unknown grounds for him!

sutty68 - Probably Pfft But that's the advantage of working with co-leaders, one can attack and the other's still safe. So Willy took a risk. You won't get anywhere without taking risks, unfortunately, this one got him nowhere Pfft

sutty68
Good point Wink

Critérium du Dauphiné - Stage 5 - ITT

The second time trial, 32 km long this one!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauph01_zps8507740f.jpg

This year's time trial takes us over a hill, around Annecy, close to Genève.

Stijn Van Gent

Willy still isn't over the "shock" from yesterday. He let himself get dragged along with the media about him being a new hope for the Belgians, but he won't fall for that again. He's really to himself now. I thought today would be interesting for the coming National TT because Monfort, De Gendt and Van Den Broeck are here, but he didn't want to hear it, today he'd just ride his own race.

I, on the other hand, was quite uncomfortable on my bike. Damn that aerodynamic stuff, I just sat my ass down on my saddle and started peddling. I would get there in the end, on brute strength

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauph02_zps5d1b2e6c.jpg

In the end I finished 105th. Good enough. Tomorrow's the final chance for the sprinters, though with those hills, it'll be hard to keep the pack together!

Willy Wouters

After a rough day yesterday, where my confidence and ego got a big slap in the face, I didn't start out too good. I made some mistakes that I shouldn't make!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauph03_zps5b16780a.jpg

However, at the first checkpoint I mentally kicked myself in the balls and said: "shape up, concentrate". It worked!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauph04_zps9664eeb9.jpg

The TT training at Argos is really bearing its fruit. I'm moving through the corners much better and I'm positioned very well on my bike!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauph05_zps54fca31c.jpg

I finished a provisional 5th, but dropped down to an 11th place, which is very hopeful! I hope this will be noticed for the selection for the World Championships.

Well, to be honest, if I was to finish 22nd in the Tour, I'd be amazingly surprised and happy. But there are two more mountain stages, and the Tour is a much different race. We'll see.

Costa is moving up well, let's hope he can get in that top 10. That way he'll be mentally strong for the Tour!

Until tomorrow,
Stijn & Willy

A Good effort from Willy Smile

Not the TT performance we are used to with Willy Frown

Ian Butler
sutty68 - Thanks Wink

JuanMotr - Result-wise, maybe not. But looking at the names who finished in front of him, I'd say he made quite some progress. Don't forget this is the world top of time trialing: Froome, Wiggins... So it's not that bad Wink

Critérium du Dauphiné - Stage 6

Sixth stage of this race.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauphin01_zps2e14e13a.jpg

The final chance for the sprinters. Stijn can survive these hills, without a doubt!

Willy Wouters

Today I took responsibility. I spend the day keeping Costa out of the wind.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauphin03_zps001eb6d2.jpg

Then the big moment came. On the final hill, Stijn had to stay in the pack. It was hard, because the attacks soon came. Finally everyone's getting what they wanted: A duel between Wiggins and Froome. The one wouldn't let the other get away.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauphin04_zps78bc016e.jpg

But Stijn held his ground and I lead him out!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauphin05_zps0dd74ef9.jpg

Stijn Van Gent

Today was a hilly, tough race. A race I really enjoy, normally!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauphin02_zps973f53ae.jpg

Costa launched me for the sprint and did a great job, I must thank him! Even better: most sprinters were caught behind on the final hill.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauphin06_zpsaac15fdd.jpg

But what the hell? Samuel Sánchez unleashed!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dauphin07_zps47d26d1f.jpg

What the hell is this? He outsprints me for the victory, I don't see how this is possible. Evans third? Rojas Gil only 8th? Come on, what's this? Maybe the final 150m were slightly uphill? I don't know...

Well... Don't really know what to say anymore. This Dauphiné is turning into one big disappointment for the both of us. Don't get me wrong, a second place is good, but in a sprint against Sánchez?

Anyway, tomorrow the mountains.
Stijn & Willy

Jesleyh
Wow, that was strange. Stijn should be happy with his 2nd place nevertheless. I think Sanchez improved his uphill sprint Pfft
Don't forget to mention that Willy & Rui also Top 10'd the stage. That's great Grin
And the ITT of Willy was good, also in terms of results(He's facing the best). The only disappointing thing is that he could barely leave Schleck behind. In an ITT. What the hell? Pfft

Well, all I can say is: weird things are a-happenin' Pfft
Thanks for the comment! Some strange things going on in this Dauphiné, let's hope things turn back to normal for the Tour Grin

Have about an hour left on the computer so will try to race the next stage now!

Critérium du Dauphiné - Stage 7

The one but the last stage!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/crit01_zpsd35fe170.jpg

A tough mountain stage. The breakaway might make it to the finish here...

Stijn Van Gent

My day can be summarized in one shot:

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/crit02_zps3ecfd7f5.jpg

Willy Wouters

The breakaway had gotten an 8 minute lead. It was looking good, so I decided to join them!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/crit03_zps315ff91c.jpg

As soon as I reached them, I left them behind. They were Vinokourob, Martin, Visconti and Geslin.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/crit04_zpse6601598.jpg

However, Martin didn't give up and chased me.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/crit05_zps78777fe9.jpg

I was going pretty strong and the finish was only 2 km away! But then I looked behind me... After a 20 km solo, I got caught with only 1.8 km left to go.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/crit06_zps97e9b64e.jpg

Pierre Rolland took the win! Costa raced pretty good and finished 13th.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/crit07_zps9a29d581.jpg

Oh man, so close to the win! It was a hard day, and I hope it won't take its toll tomorrow...
