I've seen Bennati lose by less. at the Tour Mediterranéen last year, Lorenzetto won but even the photo finish couldn't separate them. they had to do some work on the pixels of the image to find out whose wheel was in front.
Actually, I'm not sure if it was Napolitano or Bennati. |

Bennati has really come into some top form for the giro, I have to say though that im really impressed with Cav he is really making it hard for the top guys. |

Well this is as good a stage for Cavendish (and all the other sprinters) as they could hope for, its practically pan flat. Anyone know if he'll be retiring after today? Its pretty much mountains from now on... Yey! B) |

I'm sure i'd heard somewhere that he'd be trying to complete his first grand tour, but i may have been wrong.
EDIT:
My bad (from CyclingNews.com)
If the win comes Friday, he may not continue through the high mountains, preferring to focus on the Tour de France in July. "If we get another win then maybe it is not important to carry on. ... Then my chances of going to the Tour are greater, so then maybe it would be better to rest for the Tour. We will see."

and about visconti we'll see after thes tage tomorrow. if ge doesn't lose to much time, he might have a top 15 place. but i found it very doubtfull as he ended last year as 53rd
It wouldn't be the biggest jump ever going from 53rd to 10th... Especially not when having advantage of 6-7 minutes to begin with, last year he was probably 10minutes behind at this time, and more than that, being leader often gives the extra boost... But only time can tell of course
A little backspin shows that Visconti at the same time last year was in 132th place more than 53minutes behind....
So if we add the +7 he has now, he is about an hour better now than last year.
If we add that up to last years result he would become around 35th. He didn't end in 53rd but 77th last year
35th without any effort could probably be executed to a top 10-20 I think... It all adds up to the amount of effort from him and the team obviously, I totally forgot abour Garaté, only thought Bettini was there to do some climbing. |

I think after this Giro, the questions about Cavendish as a sprinter should stop.
I'm not saying he's the greatest or anything... but he's won two and come very close to winning three sprint stages in a grand tour. He's been the best sprinter in the Giro by a large margin.
I do hope he stops after today... I want to see him in the Tour and see how he does. |

He maybe is fastest but he isnt best ..yet..still has lot to learn how be in perfect place in perfect time. This come with experience..
But I am happy. I have been waiting two years when new boys will beat Petacchi and McEwen..well sprinters generation change has finaly started.

All sprinters use there team to do alot and get them in good position. Great work by the team. Lets hope to see Cav in the tour against some of the other so called big sprinters. Anyone think he could finish and take the green jersey this year? |

They need to fire this incomplacent assh*le!!!!
Good win for kav, but if it would have gone on further Koldo Fernandez would have won rabo should sign him and have 2 good spaniard sprinters, i dont know what it is but holland doesnt produce sprinters.

Cavendish just thanked Bennati for letting him through on the right and not making him crash into the barriers. He says he owes him a big favour for being a gentleman. Nice to see some sportsmanship occasionally.
He also said that he will now try and survive the next few days. Whether his team has other ideas or not is a different matter. (taken live off RAI stream).
