Without the fall, Kenny would've gotten into a decent position overall...
Edit: Congrats on reaching a 1000 posts for this story

Avilés is a port city at the Bay of Biscay with a population of about 80.000 people. The city was first mentioned in 905.
Palacio de Llano Ponte (Aviles in 1700-1706) originally owned by Rodrigo García Pumarino after he was making a fortune in Peru:
Pre-race strategy: We will wait in the peloton, for the final climb.
The weather is unstable with showers coming and going, temperatures at 21°C with a gentle breeze.
The morning break is 5 relative unknown riders, they are all more than 35 min. after in the GC.
On the cat.2 climb Lasse Bøchman attacks, attempting to make an outpost for Elissonde, a group of others counter, and they get a nice gab to the peloton. But as the peloton increase the pace, over the flat towards the cat1, they are reeled back in.
At alto del Cordal the pace gets very high and the selection starts for real. Riders like Atapuma, Frank and Durate loses between 2’50 and 3’45 here. Also Elissonde and Malacarne is dropped to a 2nd group.
At the bottom of the final climb the situation is: The front group of 23 riders, with all the GC top ten riders, at 46 sec. a group of 11 with Elissonde, Malacarne, Sagan, Moser ect.
Carlos Betancur (Astana) attacks right from the start of the final climb.
Elissonde gets new energy, and slowly advances on the way up, closing in on the finish he is amongst the top 12 riders, now with Betancur in sight, but has to be very careful, he is close to his limits.
Carlos Betancur takes a solo win at Alto de L'Angliru, with 2'15 to Roman Kreuziger, Daniel Navarro 3rd in the same time. Kenny Elissonde gets in as 12th, 4'05 behind Betancur.
Betancur claims the “maillot rojo” with just 2 sec. to Kreuziger, a very decisive ITT tomorrow.
Christina: Was looking bad for a while, but good come back at the last climb. Kenny Elissonde is now 15th in the CG, but he might lose a lot tomorrow in the ITT.

One wonders where Elissonde could've finished had it not been for the crash. Still a very good outing in Spain

AbhishekLFC: Without the crash he would have move up just one slot to 14th. There was quite substantial time gabs.

15/9 Giro dell'Appennino (cat. 1.1)
Novi Ligure – Pontedecimo : 187.8 km
Rasmussen Reports: We are here in Novi Ligure for Giro dell'Appennino, The first edition took place in 1934 and the race has since been held every year except during the War (1940-1945). The race passes over Passo della Bocchetta starting with about 45 km to the finish, could very well be decisive.
Novi Ligure was a Holiday resort of the rich Genoese families in the seventeenth and eighteenth century, characterized by the presence of numerous noble palaces. Today Novi Ligure is a city of just under 30.000 inhabitants.
La fontana di piazza Delle Piane, named after Delle Piane noble family.
Pre-race strategy: With a very weak squad here, we expect our only hope is a breakaway win. If we can’t get in a break, it is probably going to be just a fitness ride.
Profile:
Roster:
Angelo Furlan
Daniele Aldegheri
Frederik Wilmann
Mads Würtz Schmidt
Morten Høberg
Patrick Clausen
Sebastian Balck
Simon Bigum
It is hot 30°C with a clear blue sky and just a light breeze. We get Daniele Aldegheri in the morning break.
Near the top of Passo della Bocchetta, the favorite group passes the breakaway in high speed, we are basically out of the race.
Just before the final descent to the line the favorite group is reduced to 29 riders, seems clear that the winner is from this group.
With 3 km left Stefano Locatelli (Team Nippo) and Damiano Caruso (Vini Fantini) has got a gap of 23 sec. to Chris Anker Sørensen (Lampre), the rest of the favorites are another 19 sec. behind.
Locatelli wins over Caruso in a very close sprint.
Rasmussen: As expected we did not have the riders for this. Our best was Daniele Aldegheri (54) losing 13'04
Result:
1 | Stefano Locatelli | Team Nippo - De Rosa | 4h41'27 | 2 | Damiano Caruso | Vini Fantini - Selle Italia | s.t. | 3 | Chris Anker Sørensen | Lampre - Merida | + 41 | 4 | Julian Arredondo | Team Nippo - De Rosa | + 1'03 | 5 | Matteo Trentin | Cannondale Pro Cycling | + 1'15 | 6 | Patrick Schelling | Atlas Personal - Jakroo | s.t. | 7 | Ivan Rovny | Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest | s.t. | 8 | Miguel Rubiano | Androni Giocattoli - Venezuela | s.t. | 9 | Adriano Malori | Cannondale Pro Cycling | s.t. | 10 | Winner Anacona | Lampre - Merida | s.t. | 11 | Filippo Savini | Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest | s.t. | 12 | Jan Barta | IAM Cycling | s.t. | 13 | Matteo Montaguti | Androni Giocattoli - Venezuela | s.t. | 14 | Emanuele Vona | Team Nippo - De Rosa | s.t. | 15 | Andrea Manfredi | Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest | s.t. | 16 | Diego Rosa | Androni Giocattoli - Venezuela | s.t. | 17 | Morris Possoni | Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest | s.t. | 18 | Alfredo Balloni | Androni Giocattoli - Venezuela | s.t. | 19 | Cristiano Monguzzi | Vini Fantini - Selle Italia | s.t. | 20 | Patrik Sinkewitz | Meridiana Kamen Team | s.t. |

21/9 Memorial Marco Pantani (cat. 1.1)
Cesena – Cesenatico : 178.4 km
Rasmussen reports, We are here in Cesena for the Memorial Marco Pantani, winner of 1998 Giro d'Italia and Tour de France, who died 14 February 2004.
Cesena is a city and commune (municipality) in northern Italy. The city dates back to pre-roman times, taken over by the Romans in 3 century BC.
Rocca Malatestiana (Malatestian Stronghold) construction started in 1380, replacing 4 previous strongholds originally dating back to late Roman times:
Pre-race Strategy: We will try to attack with Stefan on the final climb, in case that fails we believe Francisco José Pacheco might have a chance in the sprint if we can get him over the climb in the peloton.
Profile:
Roster:
Francisco José Pacheco
Mads Würtz Schmidt
Martin Pedersen
Mitchell Lovelock-Fay
Patrick Clausen
Philip Nielsen
Stefan Schumacher
Yves Lampaert
The weather is very fine 25°C and just a light breeze. A huge group of 13 riders gets away. We estimates the two strongest to be Evan Huffman (Astana) on the climb or Valentin Iglinskiy (AG2R) if he makes it over the climb, and it comes to a sprint.
Mitchell Lovelock-Fay attacks on the final climb, with Stefan Schumacher on wheel, and gets a gap to the pack, but not enough distance was built up, and they get caught again at the first part of the flat finish.
We setup a train: Schmidt – Schumacher – Pacheco, they are in perfect position for the sprint.
The race is won by Giovanni Visconti (Bardiani) in a very close sprint over Ivan Santaromita (BMC), Pacheco takes the last podium.
Stage:
1 | Giovanni Visconti | Bardiani Valvole - CSF Inox | 4h17'10 | 2 | Ivan Santaromita | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 3 | Francisco José Pacheco | Christina Watches - Onfone | s.t. | 4 | Francesco Gavazzi | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 5 | Joseph Dombrowski | RadioShack - Leopard | s.t. | 6 | Fabio Taborre | Vini Fantini - Selle Italia | s.t. | 7 | Matteo Rabottini | Lampre - Merida | s.t. | 8 | Dominik Nerz | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 9 | Peter Velits | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 10 | Stefan Schumacher | Christina Watches - Onfone | s.t. | 11 | Damiano Cunego | Cannondale Pro Cycling | s.t. | 12 | Julian Arredondo | Team Nippo - De Rosa | s.t. | 13 | Davide Villella | Lampre - Merida | s.t. | 14 | Ben King | RadioShack - Leopard | s.t. | 15 | Damiano Caruso | Vini Fantini - Selle Italia | s.t. | 16 | Dmitriy Gruzdev | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 17 | Fredrik Kessiakoff | Katusha Team | s.t. | 18 | Martin Pedersen | Christina Watches - Onfone | s.t. | 19 | Stefano Locatelli | Team Nippo - De Rosa | s.t. | 20 | Matthias Frank | BMC Racing Team | s.t. |

22/9 Grand Prix d'Isbergues (cat. 1.1)
Isbergues – Isbergues: 198 km
Rasmussen reports: We are here in Isbergues for Grand Prix d'Isbergues held continuously since 1947 in Pas-de-Calais region, northern France. Isbergues is a commune (municipalities) of about 10.000 people. The town dates back to the very early Middle Ages, knows for the legend of St. Isbergues sister of Charlemagne.
church of St. Isbergues, dating from the fifteenth century:
Pre-race Strategy: We expect a mass sprint finish we will stay in the peloton.
Profile:
Roster:
It is 22°C and blue sky but with a strong breeze. The morning breakaway is 4 riders.
We set a few riders up front to keep the breakaway under control.
The pace is very high at the last 25 km, and with the relative high wind speed, we struggle to keep our train in front. Then the sprint start we are a little too far back.
The race is won by Cabel Ewan (Orica) over Justin Jules (La Pomme Marseille). Our best is Enger (9)
Rasmussen: Fine race, guess we had the riders to do a little better, but was OK.
Due to crash of exported file, this is a simple top 10.
