For Contador, the Giro was just a preparation race which he accidentally won because all others are such bad TT riders.
After all a very smart ride from Contador. He striked in the TT and did what he had to do in all other stages: mark the ones that should normally be able to follow the best Contador on the climbs.
Though both Landa and Aru were better uphill during the last stages, he still had his big advantage acquired against the clock. His payback-attack earned him the last additional time advantage he needed to be sure.
Though he won't be happy with how he was dropped today I don't think he will care too much. After all he's going to be the Giro winner and that's what he was in Italy for.
I'm very curious to see how he will perform in le TDF. He's always been my favourite GC rider for GT's but I don't expect him to be at his best there, though I hate to admit it.

Indeed, shame Landa didn't work for Aru the entire giro - he would probably have won then. That's probably the only reason he couldnt follow Conta and the rest of the top guns on some stages, he was just too drained from pacing Landa all day long.

agree you cant be %100 in giro if your going for the tour aswell .

What are you talking about, the exact opposite is the case: Landa had to be the lapdawg for three weeks so that Aru could get second place and two stage wins. Especially in the middle part of the race, Landa was blatantly way superior to Aru. I've seen my share of lieutnantns being better than their designated captains but Landa-Aru dynamic really stands out here.
If Landa was allowed to ride, who knows what's possible and what woulda coulda happened. He still received a beating in the Time Trial and Contador would have marked him way more instead of just focusing on Aru all the time but then again, Landa isn't afraid to do long range attacks which I admire a lot. Landa said that: "He [Contador] was the best. He managed his strength best and he controlled things best, and here, the best rider always wins."
Anyway, Landa has also confirmed he will be unleased at the Vuelta. Really looking forward to him attending it, especially since Vuelta might be a bit of a youth affair this year.
“My next objective is the Vuelta a España, but I’m happy with my Giro,” Landa said. “It’s a big turning point in my career and I’ll look on things from a different perspective now.”
"It’s a little bit scary when Contador attacks." - Tommy V
I didn't think Contador should of raised the 3 fingers on the podium when receiving the pink jersey after yesterday's stage, he also backed it up with saying he considers himself a 3 time Giro winner. It all fine to feel that way but he didn't need to do it on the podium, it is pretty classless and shows he is unapologetic about his doping past, kind of ruined what I thought has been a good performance by him at this race.

Anyway, what a great giro it was, almost every stage something happened..
The only thing that makes it not a 10/10 is that Hesjedal and Kruijswijk aren't awarded for all their efforts with a stage win or a jersey. And in general the weak field we had left at the end.
Contador is not convincing for the Tour, that's for sure. I hope for him that he rode this at 90%.

I might or might not have been sarcastic with my comment. But that would be up to you to decide
Just made that comment becuse of Arberg's post there, Aru stronger than conta, yup
Anyway enjoyed this giro overall, excited for what Landa can do in the future and on a team he actually get the leader-ship role he deserves. Can't say I've been a fan of Astanas so-called ``tactics`this giro.

Honestly, I think Landa would have won the whole thing. Looking back at 3-4 stages where it had been possible to gain time or alot more time than he did had he be given the opportunity: The first 2 weeks it probably was hard including Di Campiglio as the stages werent that hard, but from Aprica and on, it was definetely possible. Who knows what Landa would have done had be been time trialing up Mortirolo like Contador and just forgot about Aru and made Contador go into his red and over his limits like yesterday... and who knows what he would have done on Cervinia where he basically just was following wheels along with Contador due to Aru being upfront - not to forget actually let him ride yesterday where he clearly was the strongest? Would have been hard for Landa to win due to his lackluster ITT, but it was possible since Contador wasnt at 100%.
Youth affair - Aru, Landa, Betancur and?.. Quintana will ride it as well for sure, but a lot probably depends on the Tour and its casulties. But anywayys, Aru and Landa should both be captains and let the legs decide it, instead of team politics.
