Yeah, I'm just not in the mood for PCM at the moment... And I don't want to force myself to anything The times for PCM will definetely come again, so just have a little patience
Yeah, I'm just not in the mood for PCM at the moment... And I don't want to force myself to anything The times for PCM will definetely come again, so just have a little patience
Its probably Fifa Street
And I know what you mean, completely understandable. I was out of it, for almost 5 months, lets hope you dont do the same for as long though
Actually, it's not FIFA Street but Football Manager that keeps me away a bit But I surely will at least post a stage from time to time and the time will come again when I'll play more, as I said.
To underline that, here's the next Vuelta stage, much more eventful than you would guess:
The stage is classified as hilly but since the last half is descending and flat, we can expect it to end in a bunch sprint – if the respective teams want it to be one.
Dominik's Pre-Race Comment
We will definetely send a rider into the break as the sprinter teams didn't do much in the last stages. If it comes down to a mass sprint, Finetto will try it again.
Live Ticker
Km 5:
Marco Marcato starts the action.
.
Km 18:
Over the first climb, Marcato leads with 2'30. Gregory Rast, Francesco Reda and David Veilleux follow closely.
.
Km 40:
The four reunited and are five minutes in front of the pack.
.
Km 76:
The mountain sprints are highly contested. Rast scored most points and will wear the jersey tomorrow. Over the last classified climb, the advance of the four riders grew to more than 10 minutes.
.
Km 147:
Although the pack raised the pace to bring the escapees back, Diego Ulissi and once again Riccardo Riccó attack. Johan Vansummeren, Kolobnev and Schumacher follows some moments later.
.
Km 184:
Strangely, those attacks made the pack slow down completely. The advance of the attackers grows rapidly as they advance the break. Now, with 28 kms to go, the first group is four minutes in front.
.
Km 185:
That is enough for Peter Sagan. Having fantastic legs, he goes after them. Hopefully, it's not too late.
.
Km 192:
His attack, of course, is taken very seriously. The pack pulls him back immediatly.
.
Km 194:
Meanwhile, the late attackers reached the break which prompts Diego Ulissi to attack. Marcato tries to follow.
.
Km 195:
Then, not for the first time during this Vuelta, a big crash happens which splits the peloton in two parts. Sylvester Szmyd and Fabio Sabatini hit the ground, but way more important: Samu Sanchez, Igor Anton and Joaquim Rodriguez are all stopped!
.
Km 199:
Only a small group of 17 riders, now led by Liquigas, are left in front of the peloton. From the overall contenders, only Nibali, Valverde and Machado (well, and Gilbert) are within this group. Nerz is present as well.
.
Km 209:
As the sprint for the win is about to begin, Marco Marcato as the worst possible position: At the very front of the group.
.
Km 211:
With 1 km to go, Grégory Rast takes the lead.
.
Km 212:
But it's Stefan Schumacher who takes the win. Marcato at least finishes fifth, a good result but with a better initial position, more would have been possible.
.
Km 212:
The group around most Liquigas riders including Nibali and Nerz comes in 1'08 later. They maintained a high pace and managed to gain 44 seconds on the likes of Sanchez and Anton.

Dominik's Comment
Well, well, well. I really didn't expect this stage to be that eventful. We did bring a man into the break and Marco Marcato delivered again with a nice fifth place, his second strong result already, so that was great.
And then there was this crash. It was quite nasty and totally ripped the peloton apart but as usual, almost our complete team was pretty close to the front so except for Sylvester and Fabio, we weren't affected. Then, our DS told us to raise the pace since most other favorites weren't in our small group. I didn't feel totally fine with that, since it has a little smack to benefit from such a crash but after all, positioning belongs to this sport as well. Let's hope these 44 seconds will be worth the effort we put into the last 10 kms.
Vincenzo is now already more than two minutes in front of Sanchez and Anton. And after the time trial the day after tomorrow, that could even increase. It looks all very, very well for us.
Another flat stage. But the small ascents towards the end and especially its steep final kilometer make this stage more something for the sprinting puncheurs like Gilbert or Sagan.
Dominik's Pre-Race Comment
We want the win here. The stage is perfectly shaped for Peter Sagan and with Mauro Finetto, he has the perfect lead out as well. The rest of the team, including me if I have to, will just make sure no break has a chance here.
Live Ticker
Km 2:
The most active rider of this Vuelta, Dennis Van Winden, does it again.
.
Km 53:
Five riders around Van Winden managed to get away. They're already 7 minutes in front.
.
Km 75:
As the advance grows to almost 10 minutes, Marcato and Caruso start the chase.
.
Km 137:
Lots of riders try to get away from the pack in the last 60 kilometers, among them Kevin Van Impe and Serguei Ivanov. Liquigas keeps a high pace.
.
Km 156:
With 27 kilometers, a large group is 1'30 in front of the pack.
.
Km 164:
Omega Pharma participates in the lead now, too. The gap is down to a minute.
.
Km 176:
Not the least due to Dominik's work, everything is back together.
.
Km 180:
Reynes and Bakelandts lead Gilbert (in green) out perfectly. Finetto and Sagan are a bit behind.
.
Km 181,5:
Finetto and Sagan catch up. 1,5 kms to go. Gilbert is still in the perfect position.
.
Km 183:
And Gilbert easily finishes the job. Peter Sagan can't do more than a fifth place, unfortunately. Finetto on 12, Nibali on 13.

Dominik's Comment
We are of course pretty disappointed. No blame on Peter, it was the lead out that was messed up. Omega Pharma never left any doubts who would win today, Philippe Gilbert is just too superior at the moment, but nevertheless a fifth place is not what we wanted today.
Otherwise, the stage was pretty unspectacular. I'm very happy about my performance, another Top 25 result even after my domestique work is pretty good. Tomorrow's the time trial, that will be more interesting.
Thanks, sutty. I wasn't that happy with a fifth place since Sagan is, along with Gilbert, by far the best puncheur so at least a podium finish was my goal. Anyway, there are more stages like this, and maybe once I can beat Gilbert then
The time trial. 46 hilly kilometers that will shake up the GC quite a bit.
Dominik's Pre-Race Comment
The course looks pretty good for Peter Sagan and Vincenzo Nibali. We all hope that Nibbles can gain some more time today. Personally, the course doesn't suit me that well. Hills and time trialing – not my favorite combination. I'll give my best and see what comes out.
Live Ticker

1h13'11
.
155th
Fabio Sabatini is the first Liquigas rider to finish.
1H14'06
.
108th
One of the better time trialists today is Edvald Boasson Hagen. He takes the provisional lead.
1H11'15
.
95th
David Millar fights for a top stage result. He is clearly faster than the Norwegian.
1H10'01
.
84th
Richie Porte continues to disappoint. He only finishes third so far.
1H11'26
.
74th
This might be a serious bid for the stage win. Anthony Roux takes the lead.
1H09'48
.
67th
Joost Posthuma repeats his good performance from the prologue. Third place for him.
1H11'00
.
22nd
Now we see Dominik Nerz starting.
.
22nd
Through the first checkpoint, he's 32nd, 50 seconds down.
.
1st
The big guns are all on the road now. Nibali just started.
.
22nd
Nerz accelerates a bit towards the second checkpoint. Still 32nd, now 1'47 down.
.
8th
Alejandro Valverde sets the new best time on checkpoint one.
.
5th
Rodriguez +33 on CP 1.
.
4th
Igor Anton is six more seconds slower.
.
3rd
Samuel Sanchez is only one second slower than Valverde. We're waiting for Nibali.
.
2nd
But first, it's Gilbert who is even 8 seconds faster than Valverde!
.
1st
Nibali is only 11th at the moment, 24 seconds behind Gilbert, 15 behind Sanchez.
.
22nd
Meanwhile, Dominik Nerz finishes. He rode well within his means and is 23rd so far.
1H11'46
.
8th
Valverde is first on CP 2 as well.
.
5th
Joaquim Rodriguez is now already 1'13 behind.
.
4th
Antón is hit even harder. + 1'26 for him.
.
3rd
Sanchez rides still extraordinarily well and is only 2 seconds behind.
.
2nd
But it's Gilbert again who crushes them. He's 18 seconds in front now!
.
1st
While Nibali isn't in danger of losing his red jersey today, he doesn't seem to gain too much either: +40 on Gilbert, + 20 on Sanchez.
.
9th
Meanwhile, Peter Sagan finishes. It will be another Top 10 position for him and he'll increase his white jersey lead on Dominik Nerz. Provisional fourth while Nerz is now on 28.
1h10'09
.
8th
And Valverde finishes. He lost quite some seconds on the last part and while he still finishes first, he's on the same time as Roux.
1H09'48
.
5th
Joaquim Rodriguez' only goal for today was to limit his losses. 1'47 on such a long time trial on Valverde is pretty decent.
1H11'35
.
4th
On the last meters, Igor Antón gets overtaken by Samuel Sanchez. Antón loses two minutes on his former teammate.
1H11'48
.
3rd
As for Sammy Sanchez, he overtakes the lead for the moment, being a single second faster than Valverde and Roux.
1H09'47
.
2nd
And here comes today's winner. On hilly profiles, he's not to beat at the moment. At this early point of the race, Philippe Gilbert can already celebrate his third stage win!
1H09'26
.
1st
And now the big surprise: Overall top favorite Vincenzo Nibali evidentally paced himself perfectly as he gained a whole lot of time on the others on the last part. In total, he was even five seconds faster than Sanchez which means that Nibali finishes second today!

Dominik's Comment
A really good day for us. No one can touch Gilbert at the moment so second spot was the maximum. Nibali gained at least a little time on his rivals, Samuel Sanchez seems to be his main rival, he looks quite strong.
Peter scored our second Top 10 today which is great for the team and for him of course, he even advanced to fifth overall, although white recedes more and more into the distance for me. But that's really fine, Sagan deserves it at the moment.
Tomorrow is a very tough day in the mountains so I'll better get some sleep now. See ya,
The first real mountain top finish of this Vuelta. The overall contenders have to show themselves and riders like Gilbert or Sagan should fall off the GC Top 10.
Dominik's Pre-Race Comment
Shit got serious! 214 kms with four ascents and a tough mountain top finish will make quite an impact on the GC. I hope I can climb well on the mountain as well as in the GC. For the team, we want Nibali to stay in red and, if possible, increase his advance. We are going to keep calm in the first part of the stage, a breakaway would be way too exhausting. But on the penultimate and the last climb, we aim to make a very high pace to isolate the other favorites – if possible, with that strong Euskaltel team...
Live Ticker
Km 5:
The riders evidentally have big respect for this stage as it takes a while until the first riders attack. Europcar seems to have big plans, two riders go!
.
Km 12:
And they make it. Along with Oscar Sevilla (Unicef), Vincent Jérôme and Guillaume Le Floch are the small break of the day. None of them is a particularly good climber, Sevilla has only little of his former strength left.
.
Km 40:
Nerz, Sagan and Nibali cross the top of the first climb comfortably in the first part of the peloton. The break is eight minutes in front.
.
Km 91:
Oscar Sevilla takes 16 points over the second mountain and is the new leader in this ranking. Their lead increased to 15 minutes. Four minutes behind them is Carlos Barredo on the chase. He attacked on the first mountain and might be a serious contender for the stage win.
.
Km 144:
Oh god! Phillippe Gilbert hits the ground. Luckily, no one crashes with him.
.
Km 168:
Barredo finally reached the break. With 46 kms to go, their advance is at 22 minutes. Usually, that's more than enough, but still two large mountains are in their way. Meanwhile, Gilbert made it back to the pack.
.
Km 163:
Froome, Arroyo and Ulissi try to exploit the peloton's slow pace.
.
Km 179:
Sevilla and Barredo left the Euskaltel duo behind. Barredo should be the better climber but how much energy did his long chase cost?
.
Km 175:
Peter Sagan and Damiano Caruso overtook the lead in the peloton. Within less than 10 kms, they have cut five minutes from the lead. The likes of Froome and Arroyo are back in the pack.
.
Km 189:
Oscar Sevilla starts the last descent alone. Barredo hadn't enough energy left to follow.
.
Km 184:
Four kilometers from the top, Nerz is a bit badly positioned. Nibali is further up in front.
.
Km 192:
Only 16 riders are left around Vincenzo Nibali. Unfortunately, Nerz is in a group a minute behind as he missed the split. Sagan and Szmyd are still there as well as all the GC favorites. With 22 kms to go, Sevilla is still 12 minutes in front.
.
Km 199:
Joaquin Rodriguez starts the action. Kessiakoff and Anton follow.
.
Km 204:
But they don't pull it off and are soon caught.
.
Km 204:
Dominik Nerz attacks to reach the front group.
.
Km 206:
Sagan and Szmyd seem tp be empty. Cobo attacks as Barredo gets caught. 8 kms to go. Sevilla is still 5'40 in front. That could be close.
.
Km 210:
Only 8 men are left behind Sevilla. Most importantly, Valverde, Sanchez, Antón and Sanchez. So no big name missing.
.
Km 212:
Oh, that is bitter: The stage is 1,7 kms too long for Oscar Sevilla. A very impressive performance nevertheless.
.
Km 211:
Nerz rides in a group around Machado and De Weert, still pretty good. They're five minutes behind the leaders. Sagan completely collapsed and even fell behind them, so the white jersey comes closer.
.
Km 213:
And now Nibali goes! He wants the stage win!
.
Km 214:
And he gets it! Fantastic! Second stage win, right in front of Rodriguez and Sanchez.
.
Km 214:
Szmyd finishes on a strong 10th place. A great accomplishment for the domestique.
.
Km 214:
Nerz outsprints Valls and Ruigh for place 18. A nice placement, and a big step towards white.

Dominik's Comment
A great stage for the team. Nibali totally rules this race so far and his second stage win is well deserved. He could even improve his overall lead. Szmyd also did outstandingly well.
For me, it was a decent day. It was a pity that I missed the split on the penultimate climb but I rode the last one at my own pace and thus could finish quite well. I made up a minute on Peter, which is good as well.
Tomorrow is the first rest day, and after today, I think we all need it. Greetings,
Great racing. Nibali showed having strong nerves and having it all in control!!
Also excellent racing by Nerz. A top 15 in the GC and the white jersey are within reach!
It'a the first rest day of the Vuelta and I'd like to use it for a first small résumé:
After the first, hard 10 days, it looks pretty awesome for us. Vincenzo Nibali leads the GC comfortably, collected two stage wins already and is currently second in both the mountain and the points classification.
Another positive appearance is definetely Marco Marcato who already gained a third and a fifth spot from breakaways. Peter Sagan on the other hand is rather ambivalent. He couldn't score a stage win so far although that is mainly what he's here for. He's got his good GC placement, but that won't last.
Looking at his recent performance on the mountain, it also looks good for my goal: The white jersey. I'm still more than two minutes behind Peter but he isn't known for his good recovery. But he isn't too keen on the jersey anyway: I'm sharing a room with him here, it's the first time we ever spend some more time together and we get along fantastically. We're having a lot of fun together, although he's does twit me quite a bit with his better GC placement. But he laughs best who laughs last, right?
Apart from the Vuelta, it's also time for a second hint regarding our biggest new signing:
He's not German, but because of his past, he is still pretty popular in Germany which is probably why our management could convince Unicredit to pay his big salary – you remember, they have a big focus on the German market.
Anyway, the World Tour races Vattenfall Cyclassics and GP Plouay took place in the last days while we were here in Spain and I think I'll have a quick review ready for you soon. That's it for me, I'll write another blog entry on the next rest day.
