It depends how he will evolve in next years

yeaah it depends what managers and he will decide to do in the future..what kind of rider he will be..and want to be.

Edvald will turn into a sprinter.
I don't think he will be as good on cobbles as Boonen or Canc

And don't use Gent-Wevelgem as a cobbled race, because it isn't -.-
its more of a wind race
All those who have rode in flanders in the fields will know what i mean

He has the right body type, strength and already has better stamina than most riders in the peleton. I would say he has a great potential to be one of the best classics riders in the coming years...

He also says himself that he prefers the classics more than sprinting...

Not just that. about half of "future superstars" turn into good riders while the other half turn out to suck. It's impossible to predict which will be which.

What do you base this on?

Isso, I base it on that he looks cool when he pedals, because he is just that badass.

i have to say i'm quite impressed by EBH, he isnt very old, and doing fairly well in some races this year. how come some ppl dont think he will be a good cobbeled rider? i dont say he will i just want to know why some say he wount. i think there is potential in hagen and i hope he will be a good rider Smile i without much cycling knowledge at all predricts that he will be a little improved arvesen or something like that.

Hagen is a known supertalent since years now. Long before he was a pro I think most people already knew he was going to become very good.

The only thing I downplay is his chances of becoming a climber / rider for grand tours or real climbing tours. He is simply not built that way.

Also, when he was an espoir, you could already see that. Because even though he won a lot of stages in the Tour l'Avenir, he could never figure in the thoughest stages and the general classification.

So he is in my opinion a very good sprinter, a good hilly rider,a very good time trialist and a good cobble rider...That is already exceptional, so be happy with it. That's a rare find.

helGn
yes that indeed sound very good. but I got the impression that someone thought that if he wanted to focus on cobblestones he wouldnt manage to be a good cobbler. Perhaps its just me that misunderstood. And thank you ruben for a good informative, and biassless post Smile

He won't become a great cobble rider, he can become a good domestique in cobble races, not more than that.

Why do you think that?

This year he wasn't really impressive in the 3 big cobbleraces (Het Volk, RVV, and Roubaix) ending 62,64 and 102. But he can still end around 10-15 but not all the way in the top of ranks

I disagree Schleck, a lot of it has to do with road knowledge in Flanders.
Hagen never rode there before, and when you don't start the hills there in the first 15, there is no way in hell you will do well. You will always have to chase..
Belgian/Dutch riders and experienced cobble riders know where to be at what point, they know exactly how and when to move to the front. Hagen does not know, and thus waists a lot of energy and never got into the front of those races.

In Gent-Wevelgem, where you don't need much road knowledge, you could see that on cobbled hills, he is definately strong, because he was the strongest on the Kemmelberg of a strong leadgroup. He can definately ride on cobbles very fast and on cobbled hills. The problem is, he needs to be infront at the right times. Also for Roubaix Wink

Wasn't he there as a helper? Cause if that was the case it's really difficult to predict whether or not he could've done better...

Hagen will definately become a world class rider like Pozzato, Hushovd or Ballan... A mixture of those 3 will probably be who he will become...

I don't think he will ever become one of the best TT'ers in the world... But he will be one of the best sprinters, and a good TT'er and strong flat/hilly rider and, now and then a great cobbler...

Boasson Hagen has up until recently had big problems with his stomach in longer races. Around May, I think, it was discovered the problems came from ingredients in his sports drink. He has used a new drink since then, based on fish flour, that has made him feel better.

In Ronde van Vlaanderen, he had to stop to throw up, and had problems throughout the race. He still finished the race respectably, I'd say. In Paris-Roubaix, he raced well in the main group, until Hincapie punctured and messed up his wheel change. Hagen and Eisel (I think) stopped to help him back, which they never managed to do. Hincapie finished 44th, Hagen 62nd.

This is the first year he really raced cobbled races, last year he focussed on the Ardennes (to try everything out, basically). I don't know much about his performance in Het Volk, but he raced well also in E3 Prijs (26th, same time as 14th), which I guess is the biggest cobbled classic behind the three mentioned (and G-W).

Boasson Hagen will sign for a new team in the start of september according to norwegian media, and it has according to Nettavisen.no been confirmed by one of Hagens advisors.

That would, IMO, be a tragedy beyond all existing concepts.
