After an impresive ride by our team in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad we are back on the first day of March for Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne for the second cobbled race of the year. This isn't going to be as easy as it was in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad though. Here all the big names are coming.
Flecha, Nuyens and Langeveld will obviously be our team - leaders. Quick Step, Saxo Bank and Silence Lotto brought this time their elite for cobble races. Boonen, Devolde, and Chavanel will ride for Quick Step, Cancellara, and O'Grady will be here for Saxo Bank while Silence Lotto will have on the startlist riders like Hoste, Van Avermate or Vansummeren.
Ballan, Hincapie, Maaskant and Terpstra are here too but they probably won't have a team able to suport them too much.
Team for Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne:
31. Juan Antonio Flecha
32. Rick Flens
33. Matthew Hayman
34. Pedro Horrillo
35. Sebastian Langeveld
36. Nick Nuyens
37. Laurens Ten Dam
38. Maarten Tjallingii

Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne
After a few cobbled sections a leadin group was made. Strong riders were there: Flecha, Chavanel, Guesdon, Spilak, Terpstra and Ista
Behind them was made a chasing group with all the big names. Cancellara, Ballan, Nuyens, Hincapie, O'Grady, Hoste and Langeveld are all there
Well almost all the big names. Quick Step seems to have miss the right group as Devolder and Boonen are really behind
On the last cobbled section of the day the Flecha - Chavanel group was caught
Some of the riders that were in that group even had difficulties staying in the new group. Flecha was one of them
Leukamns is trying to get away but the gap that he managed to made isn't too big
And inside the last 10 km is brought back in the main group
But Our last hopes Nuyens and Langeveld aren't there anymore. They are with Chavanel in the chasing group if it can be called that way
With 5 km to go Hincapie made a serious attack
Ballan and O'Grady are coming right after him
The World Champion seems to be the strongest as he starts the sprint with a little advantage over the other 2
O'Grady is trying to catch him but Ballan looks strong enough to hang on
And Ballan gets the win in his beautiful rainbow jersey
Langeveld and Nuyens stayed together untill the end of the race and finished on 11th and 10th

Driedaagse van West Vlaanderen is a nice stage race which could be a great preparation for Tirreno - Adriatico. The race doesn't have too many stars at the start this year. Grabsch, Freire and Landis are the most known names that are registered on the start list.
The overall would be probably be decided in the third, and the last stage which is an ITT. It should probably be a battle between the World ITT Champion Bert Grabsch and our leader, Joost Pothuma.
The other 2 stages are for the sprinters and except Renshaw, Freire will probably have no opponent in those stages but you never know.
Probably it should be mentioned that our Continental Team will take part in this race.
Team for Driedaagse van West Vlaanderen:
11. Joost Posthuma
12. Marc De Maar
13. Óscar Freire
14. Paul Martens
15. Kai Reus
16. Tom Stamsnijder
17. Laurens Ten Dam

Driedaagse van West Vlaanderen Stage 1
The heavy rain and strong wind made a lot of riders lose time today. Only one of them crashed though. And it was the no.1 favourite for the overall, Bert Grabsch, this can't be good for him as the finish isn't far
In front Posthuma lead Freire for an while
But then Freire had to go following another train which was way faster that Posthuma
With 2 km left to ride Freire was in a perfect position
As the race reached the last kilometre, Freire made his move giving the others no chance
Probably the most expected win of the season for Freire, but tomorrow's a day too
Grabsch lost 4 and a half minutes and the overall seems to be over for him
Winning the stage also means that Freire will be in yellow tomorrow

Nice win there by Freire, if i can ask, what size are you uploading them? (In photobucket you have to choose which size to reduce them to) |

Driedaagse van West Vlaanderen Stage 2
Well the game crashed right before the replay. No surprise there
The stage was won by a breakaway group but Freire sprinted fast enough in the last metres to bring the pack back in the same time with the escapes and to keep the yellow jersey on his shoulders

Eroica isn't placed too good in the cycling calendar as the day after, the Paris - Nice starts. This year there won't be a lot of stars taking part in the race. Actually there's only one star and that is Nick Nuyens, who will lead our team. His main opponents will be Paolini, Spilak, Traksel, Spilak, Zberg or Pliushcin.
Our other 2 great cobblers, Flecha and Langeveld, won't start tomorrow because they are in our for Paris - Nice and they are already in France for the start of it. But Boom, Tjallingii, Hayman or Tankink are in here to do everything they can to help Nuyens get his third win of the season after the double from Down Under.
Team for Eroica:
1. N.Nuyens
2. L.Boom
3. R.Flens
4. M.Hayman
5. P.Horrillo
6. B.Tankink
7. M.Tjallingii
8. J.Van Emden

Eroica
On the last cobbles of the day Nuyens attacked
A lot of riders where able to follow him and we had a big group in front. Boom was also there
On the finishing climb Nuyens and Boom highed up the pace. At the begining only Del Nero was able to hang on
But after an while the others came back as well
And this looks like going to be between Del Nero, Nuyens and Paolini
Boom is trying to hang on but he looks really tired
The sprint starts with Nuyens in front, while Del Nero seems to have lost his spot to Bernucci
But Paolini is a better sprinter than Nuyens and that helps him when the climb ends and the road comes back to flat
Paolini is the winner. Nuyens just second
Great day for Boom as he took the 8th place after a strong ride

Driedaagse van West Vlaanderen Final Stage
Grabsch came with an amazing time today. Too bad he crashed and lost time in the first stage
Posthuma had a good day and he wasn't too far to beat Grabsch's time
Bodrogi beat Posthuma with 8 seconds which means that he is the main favourite to take the overall now. He couldn't beat Grabsch though
Freire tried but he had no chance keeping the yellow jersey. He just managed to hang on in the top 10
Yes, it's Bodrogi who takes the overall win
The 3 times World Champion lost the overall but the points rankings were his

Paris - Nice is the first big race of the year and the startlist is really impresive. The strongest team seems to be Astana with Leipheimer, Brajkovic, Kloden, Paulinho and Zubeldia. Saxo Bank don't have a bad team either, Frank Schleck being the big favourite for the overall win and he will be suported by Voigt, Breschel, Fuglsang, Larsson and Kolobnev. On the favourites list he also have Cunego, Valverde, Ballan, Kirchen, Kreuziger, Gerdemann, Efimkin, Moreau, Chavanel, Moncoutie, Gomez Marchante or Casar.
So with opponents like that it will be very hard for us to do something special as our team leader will be Juanma Garate. Mollema is also here but since his goal will probably be the Vuelta he isn't in a great form at the moment, while Leezer will be our sprinter.
Speaking of sprinters there will be a few stage that might be suited for them. Rojas, Fischer, Haussler, Davis, Dean, Breschel, Vaitkus, Steegmans, McEwen, Van Avermaet and Koldo Fernandez will be probably at top in those stages.
Team for Paris - Nice:
91. Juan Manuel Gárate
92. Stef Clement
93. Juan Antonio Flecha
94. Dimitry Kozontchuk
95. Sesbastian Langeveld
96. Tom Leezer
97. Bauke Mollema
98. Maarten Tjallingii

Paris - Nice Stage 1
Zabriskie was one of the first riders to start and he came with an amazing time
Schleck is the big favourite to win Paris - Nice this year and even that time - trialing isn't his streght he managed not to lose too much time
Chavanel is Quick Step's leader for the race and of the France big hopes but he didn't perform too well
The time - trials aren't really made for Garate but he managed not to lost more than one minute to Zabriskie
Leipheimer was the big favourite today but he wasn't even close to beat Zabriskie
Kreuziger is the best young rider in this race and he showed that today
Gerdemann is Milram's big hope and he came with a pretty good time. His team - mate Fothen wasn't bad either
Kloden wanted to get Astana at the top since Leipheimer didn't have a good day, but he was even slower that Levi
Pinotti is usualy one of the best riders in TTs but not a top 10 for him today
Larsson was also one of the favourites but he was rather dissapoiting today. The strong wind could be a problem for some riders
Another rider affected by the strong wind seems to be Martin. He was no where today
Voigt was the last rider able to beat Zabriskie but he was just third
And the first yellow jersey of this year's Paris - Nice is David Zabriskie
Results
1. David Zabriskie Garmin - Slipstream 10'27
2. George Hincapie Team Columbia - High Road + 4

Paris - Nice Stage 2
Three strong sprinters were in the breakaway. Dean, Rojas and Fischer but they were caught and that means that they won't be able to take part in the mass sprint
Leezer is trying to find a good position there. He is following the Katusha train made by McEwen and Steegmans
But the fastest ones are Cervelo
Behind, Leezer even lost McEwen's wheel and he isn't in a great position at the moment
After having a great lead - out Haussler is now leading as the race enters the last kilometre
No problems for Haussler taking the stage win there. And that thanks to his team - mate Jeremy Hunt
Leezer was very fast in the last metres and he took an unhoped second place
During the podiums the game crashed so no export results, but the overall rankings didn't suffer any big changes

Another mass sprint finish and this time Leezer took Haussler's wheel
Not the best choice as Lampre seem to be the strongest guys today

This looks like going to be between Van Avermaet, Lorenzetto and Traksel
And Van Avermaet gets the win in front of Traksel
