So now we move on to the racing of the Tour Down under...
1st stage
The Rider rolled around the area of Adelaide throught the morning, getting themselves ready for the 48km criterium around the town.
"I think this will be a great race for us because irs flat short just like the races back home in Britian"
The favourite to win to day and overall GC had his mega team CSC with him, they hopefully defending the power of the newly crowned austraian champion. "The race the other day was easy, and I took it with tonnes of energy left" Said O'Grady. Will he find it as easy today, with big beast Rob Hunter here i think the sprint might be a bit harder for O'Grady to handle.
The fans yelling shouting and screaming the atomosphere was great. Fabian Cancellara stood strong displaying his power by just standing up!
The race had begun... About 100 meters on the first attack went, Wesley Sulzberger stood on the pedals putting the power down, they quickly establiashed a neat lead and they sat down and pulled away.
They lead for a long time but at 16km to go the hungry CSC squad made the leathal bite the would reel them back in.
A counter attack! By Adam Blythe! He was going for home!
He only manager about 5k on his own and then was swallowed up. Above ^ 3km to go a few riders clashed wheels going round a sweeping corner.
The sprint unloaded with Cancellara fire all his gunss at Hunter on the Right.
Or Guys where right in the wheels fighting of the best, until disaster struck!
Peter Kennaugh going full gas began to go through the riders until a Bouygues Telecom Rider flick sharply to the right!
He was the only guy down but look really angry.
Just 100 meters up the road the Big Guns took there last shot and a huge lung by Hunter sealed victory!
What a day!

I like how youre reporting it, shame you could only get 7th with Hagen.
If youre going to do flags, I would do it for all of them, not just some of them.

Post race interview : Edvald Boasson Hagen
I decided to sit down with edvald because he seems to be in a bad mood...
Q : How did you find the race?
A (Edvald) : Horrible! Some people are just not aware of other riders. In the last 50 meters they all moved in on me i had no where to go! I was sure of a top 3 I was on cancellaras wheel! I think it was Dumoulin thats went into me making me nervous in the sprint!
Q : Oh well theres always tomorrow...
A : Yeah, I think a breat is on the cards to try and get the KOM and some intermediate sprints, theses things happen and its a good thing for me. It has given me an experience.
Peter Kennaugh
Q : You look angry is it the crash?
A (Kennaugh) : Sure is just because that nuter is in a protour team doesnt mean he can go where he wants, ill just have to see if he gets fined after my appeal!
Q : Whats the injuries like?
A : Not as bad as i thought they would be actually, just the usual cuts and bruises the doctor patcheed me up and im all ready for tomorrow. Its always worse the second day though, so we'll see.
Q : What are the plans for tomorrow?
A : Im just sit in, near the front, and wait for the sprint im not going to waste tonnes of energy so early on, Ill be going full gas in the sprint, but if im not in top shape ill join the train for Alex (Rasmussen). |

2nd Stage
Its the first proper long road stage for the guys today, and with Padilla and some other members of the team flying over from Spain ready for the Tour of Maylasia! (yes we got a spot!) The moral of the team was really high. We found out it was Geslin that took out Kennaugh yesterday and he did recieve a fine. Kennaugh was in ok shape but obviously a bit stiff, Alex Rasmussen was in super shaped and when walking up the ramp to sign you could hear little wispers about him! They lined up on the start line and it was Adam Blythe and Edvald that rushed to the start first, unibet were pushing us around a bit but tall Adam wasnt having any of it! Every one was ready...
Edvald stuck to his plan and attacked unibet were putting to much of a pace on for anything to happen and in the end up til the first climb no-one was away.
He tried an early move on the climb hoping that he would go over the top first but 3rd was all he could manage well done anyway.
At the first intermediate there was no offical break but 2 riders were just drifting away and that gobbled up the points. The team were doing a great job stick near the front and protecting the leaders.
We came to the last climb with under 10km to go, Alex Dowsett said he was feeling good so jumped off the front and got only 300m a gap of 15 seconds.
Hunter was in a really bad spot! On the front with no leadout man! Alex was bound to win!
It all happened so quickly Kennaugh unloade the sprint with 900m to go hopefully leading Alex to the line first, but Alex had switched to the other side of the line behind Lapthrone big mistake!
What a bugger Geslin had sucked the barriers all the way and managed a dogy victory.
Second for Lapthrone but who was third!?
Great news it was Blythe! What a sprint by the youngster giving Virgin their first podium!
Even better news Virgin had now taken the overall team time!
What an amazing day of racing the best so far for Virgin!

Post Race review:
Interview (By press): Adma Blythe
Q : So Adam a 3rd place how do you feel?
A (Adam) : I feel great, i didnt know i could go that fast! It was amazing it was so fast.
Q : What dp you think of the team?
A : I cant put it in to word how amazing this team is but, its great that we can do these races, we do get pushed around a lot though like this morning on the start line. Me and Edvald were getting pushed around a lot. Although i think with a few more results like this we will build our reputation.
Q : Your team manager just recently annouced that the team goit a spot in the Tour of Maylasia are you going?
A : Im not sure yet but i think there 2 spots left so hopefully ill be staying here and then off to Maylasia, we'll have to see.
Q : Thanks a lot and well done on your podium!
A : Thanks.

3rd Stage
A more hilly stage today nothing though that the sprinters cant handle just the on 4th cat climb very early on that wont cause any splits. The team were nice and warm prior to the start and at sign on Adam Bylthe got a cheer! Alex Dowsett looked determind today after his late attack yesterday didnt work, will he try something today? It was an earlier start then usual today and when lining up the team got less shoves and pushes but Unibet were still being idiots saying to Ludvigsson if you get away were gonna take you down. With that in mind he was motivated to get in a break that would carry him through all the sprints!
Ludvigsson attacked just before a sprint, and then sprinted to take first and gave that break away a nice lead.
He sat in and did a lot of work contibuting to th lead that got to a max of 5 mins.
He didnt have the same luck at this sprint, Sieberg took first clarke second.
The third and final sprint came and he dominated the tired legs.
The tea was stired and the sugar dissolved, meaning that the peleton increased the pace and caught the break!
It went on for 5km and then at the fot of the last climb a huge attack came...
Alex Dowsett going again after dissapointment yesterday! Could he timetria; his way to victory?!
As he went over the climb the peleton were 50 secs back, Alex at 8k to go he surely can do it!...
He had a massive lead as Bylthe took the wheel of Furlan, could it be a 1-2 or will the sprint put out Dowsetts flame?!
Alex unloaded all his power and put his head down looking at the line on the road, not looking back!
He had done it!! His first victory the team first victory amazing!! He throws his arms in the air and celebrates an amazing victory!! Well Deserved!
The sprint for second was snabbed by Clerc, who would take over the overall GC?
With 4th going to Bylthe the main bunch had still come in, 1min on they came lead by Hunter with Edvald on his wheel!
This has got the be the best day in the teams life!
Alex also took the Young riders jerseys but...
After loads of calculations the overall leaders jersey went to Clerc! How!! Even though Dowsett had won the stage Clerc was higher in the GC not by time but position!
GC results not up due not print screening GC export doesnt show.
What do you think of todays stage!
Interview with the winner him self and the General Classification to come, stay tuned! |
