Italian Championships - ITT
Since time trialing ain’t my strongest side, I will make this report short.
Despite having a great day, I had no chance to perform well. With 6 km left, I was caught by my two-minute-man, Enrico Gasparotto.
At the end, I finished as number 83, out of 89 possible. Not exactly a great result.
I will now head of to the road race, where I hope to perform better. My form is lousy after weeks with no training, so Simoni will be our leader.
Results:
1 Ivan Basso Liquigas 41'06
2 Vincenzo Nibali Liquigas + 1'26
3 Marzio Bruseghin Lampre - N.G.C s.t.
4 Marco Pinotti Team Columbia - High Road + 1'34
5 Manuel Quinziato Liquigas + 1'42
6 Enrico Gasparotto Lampre - N.G.C + 2'04
7 Ermanno Capelli Fuji - Servetto + 2'20
8 Dario Cioni ISD + 2'21
9 Filippo Pozzato Team Katusha + 2'27
10 Enrico Franzoï Liquigas + 2'28
...
83 Francesco Ginanni Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni - Androni Giocattoli + 5'04 |

Yes, almost. If I just had ridden 5'05" faster, I would've won! |

Italian Championships - Road race
A hilly stage with a flat finish. Would’ve suited me perfectly well if I had been in a better shape. Instead I will work for Simoni.
We sent Taborre in the break, because he’s our weakest rider.
And look at this! 80 km left, and Liquigas has rode away from the pack! Simoni, Moser and De Bonis are there. I didn’t pay attention, and ended up in the pack.
But thanks to LPR’s tough riding, we’re all back together soon.
The penultimate climb and many riders are attacking. When Cunego goes, Gibo follows! I tried to have a go too, but didn’t have enough energy in my legs.
Last climb, and Simoni has gone to the front of his group and is trying to chase down Pozzovivo. Cunego and Basso are coming up from behind.
100 m left, and Pozzo still has a small gap to Cunego and Di Luca. They are coming fast, but are they fast enough?
No, Pozzovivo held on! He’s the new Italian champ (anyone want to make champ jersey for CSF?), while Di Luca is second and Cunego third. I finished in a gruppetto after doing my work for Gibo, who was 11.
Results:
1 Domenico Pozzovivo CSF Group - Navigare 6h34'09
2 Danilo Di Luca LPR Brakes Farnese Vini s.t.
3 Damiano Cunego Lampre - N.G.C s.t.
4 Ivan Basso Liquigas s.t.
5 Giovanni Visconti ISD s.t.
6 Filippo Pozzato Team Katusha s.t.
7 Luca Paolini Acqua & Sapone - Caffé Mokambo s.t.
8 Giuseppe Palumbo Acqua & Sapone - Caffé Mokambo s.t.
9 Enrico Gasparotto Lampre - N.G.C s.t.
10 Matteo Carrara Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team s.t.
...
58 Francesco Ginanni Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni - Androni Giocattoli + 2'19 |

July wrap-up
Yo! I'm back on to racing again! Tomorrow I'll ride G.P. Nobili Rubinetterie. I’m not feeling great, after more than a month without riding any races, but I will aim for a top-ten.
But back to the really interesting part: Tour de France is over, and we have a winner… [Fan glasses on] Who else than Alberto Contador, the new Armstrong with incredible results on all stages, could’ve won? [Fan glasses off] He won ahead off Sylvain Chavanel ( ) He gained more than 20 minutes by going in breakaways, cheating Schleck for second. Basso rode well in his first Tour de France since 2005, and was fourth. Here’s the final standing:
Some guys that really surprised me are Cobo and Kirchen. Kirchen rode well in the Giro, but cracked in the final week. In the Tour he was there from day one, and was steady the whole Tour.
Another thing worth mentioning is that I was one of the twelve riders in the team for the Worlds after the first elimination. We also got a Wild Card for the Vuelta, so I’m pleased with the current situation. |
